Chapter 15 - Chapter 15

"An Angel",Sebastian whispered.

It was the most beautiful being he had ever seen. She looked so godly. So serene and pure. She was dressed in a flowing white dress, just like the one he saw in his dream. She held a golden bow in her hand but there was no sign of the quiver of arrows. Her wings were folded behind her and she seemed to be searching for something on the ground. Her hair was the golden colour of the sun, flowing down her back and it reminded him of his mother's hair. She had hair just like his mother.

Sebastian lost track of time as he remained still, watching the magnificent being below him. Never in his wildest dream did he think Angels were real. He had only heard myths and stories about them from his mother who loved wild fantasies. To actually see one now was such a big surprise. He hadn't seen her face yet but he knew she would be beautiful. He wished he could go down and show himself to her but he didn't want to scare her. He was content watching her from where he hid.

The Angel who was totally oblivious to the man staring at her from the tree was searching for tracks. Demon tracks. Another demon had escaped from the abyss and it had fallen on her to pursue it and trap it back. Leaving the Garden of Paraden, she had tracked it up to this point and then lost the trail. She crouched and moved her palm over the surface of the earth. Golden light appeared from her hand and touched the ground, momentarily brightening the gloomy forest. As the light dimmed, so did glowing foot tracks appear on the ground, leading towards a certain spot beneath a tree. The Angel smiled. The demon had tried to cover up its tracks with black magic but the powers of an Angel surpassed it.

The young girl turned and acted as if she was walking away. She whipped around suddenly and held up her bow. She pulled the string and a golden arrow materialized on it. After marking her aim, she let the arrow fly through the air and there was a screeching sound as it struck its target. A demon appeared with the arrow sticking to its side and it fell on the ground. It had used the black magic to make itself invisible but the Angel was obviously smarter. It lay beneath the tree and hissed at the girl as she approached it. It was a dark scaly creature with horns on its head. Its body was a mass of thin flesh drawn over it bones and there were two bat-like wings on its back. This was a low demon, the lowest rank of all demons. Scaly creatures who went about looking for innocent preys to feed on. They couldn't take human form like the high ranking demons so it was easy for them to get caught. They were trapped in the abyss by the great gods and lately they were finding out ways to escape. It was up to the Pure Ones to keep them locked up.

The Angel got to where it writhed on the ground, unable to pull out the golden arrow from its body. She opened her mouth to speak and the loveliest voice sounded.

"Did you really think you could hide?".

The demon snarled at her in response and she shook her head slowly.

"There's no use reasoning with you"she said softly. Then she placed her hand on the demons scaly head.

"Return to the abyss",she said. Golden light shot out of her body and the demon screeched. Pinpoints of light bust out of its body and it disappeared, leaving only a pile of ash behind.

Sebastian was too stunned to move or speak. His breath seemed to freeze in his lungs. Not only did he just see an Angel and a demon for the first time, he also just witnessed the Angel banish it back to a place she called the abyss. Had the world gone mad? What exactly was happening? Supernatural creatures were real? If Angels and demons were real, it also meant witches and spell casters were real! It was too much for him to take in.

In his shock and confusion, he didn't notice the branch he stood on creak and it broke under his weight. He fell straight down the trees and landed on his back with a groan.

The Angel turned around in shock and her wings suddenly disappeared. They seemed to fold into her back and merge with her skin and she took three steps back in fear. Someone had been in the trees? She hoped he hadn't seen her. The instruction given to her had been clear. Do not let the humans see you! If it was possible that this human saw her, she would have to erase his memory.

Sebastian turned and got to his feet instantly. He looked up at the girl and held his hand up.

"Don't be scared. I'm not going to harm you",he said quickly. And then he frowned. She had wings a moment ago. Where were they? It couldn't have been a trick of the light this time.

"Who are you?",the Angel asked. "Where you following me?".

"Of course not",Sebastian said. "I was out for a run with my horse. And then something caught my attention around here. I came back to check and then hid in the tree when I heard approaching footsteps. And then I saw you".

The Angel stared at him for a while, looking into his mind to see if he was telling the truth. He was.

"You speak the truth",she said softly.

"Yes I do. I wouldn't dream of lying to you",Sebastian said. He had been right. The girl was absolutely beautiful. She had the loveliest blue eyes and the most angelic face he had ever seen. Her cheeks were rosy and her lips were divine, tempting him carnally. He had never felt so attracted to a woman the way he was attracted to her. And he knew it wasn't just because she was an Angel. It was something else.

"You have...beautiful eyes",the girl said. She felt drawn to this handsome stranger for some strange reasons. He was divinely created, face so alluring and beautiful So perfect. His dark sleek hair spilled down his shoulders, making her hands itch to run her fingers through them. She could see the hardness of his shoulders and chest through his clothing and for the first time in her life, she felt like touching him. Trailing her fingers over the hard muscles of his body. Her carnal thoughts surprised her and she looked away from his tempting body. His eyes were what mesmerized her. They were a mixture of blue and green, something she had never seen before. He looked almost...angelic.

"Where are your wings?",Sebastian asked suddenly and that question was enough to snap her out of her daze. She jerked back as if stung and turned to walk away.

"Wait",Sebastian called. "Please don't go".

The girl stopped. Not because Sebastian told her to. But because she needed to erase his memory. Asking about her wings meant he saw her with them and he probably saw her banish the demon. She couldn't let him go back with such knowledge. The race of the Pure Ones were meant to be kept a secret forever and as much as she felt drawn to this human, she couldn't let him have this knowledge.

Moving swiftly, she appeared in front of him and placed her hands on his temple. Sebastian stood absolutely still, wondering what she was about to do and staring into her deep blue eyes.

The Angel held Sebastian's head for a while. And then her eyes widened and she gasped.

It couldn't be.

She couldn't erase his memories and that only meant one thing.

"You're an Angel",she whispered and took a step backwards.

Sebastian frowned. What did she mean?

"You're one of us",the girl said again. No wonder she felt so drawn to him. He was a Pure One, just like her. But how? The Pure Ones were only females. Never males.

And yet, this man that stood before her was one.

She was sure of it.

Yet he was different. He didn't have the glow of sunlight on his hair like her. His hair was midnight black. As dark as the wings of a raven. Only his eyes proved that he was an Angel.

A different kind of Angel.

Green mixed with blue.

Green...Green eyes!.

"He's half demon too",she whispered in shock.

Sebastian that had been silent all this while suddenly moved back. What was this Angel spewing from her mouth? He was an Angel? A half demon?

"What in the gods name are you saying?",he asked in confusion.

"You have no idea what you are",the Angel said, ignoring Sebastian's question. She needed to leave right now. Since she couldn't erase his memories, there was nothing else she could do.

He wasn't human.

He was half Angel and half Demon, making him the strongest creature ever to be created.

"I have to go",she said and turned away.

"No. Wait",Sebastian said as she fled. "What did you mean by what you said?".

The girl was surprisingly fast and Sebastian found it difficult to catch up with her. Before his astonished eyes, her wings materialized. They seemed to break out of her skin and spread out, great and white. She flapped them once and took off into the air.

"Come back!",Sebastian yelled after her as she flew away. Golden light appeared around her body and she disappeared. She was gone. He was left standing in the middle of the deserted land. The sun had gone down hours ago and it was night already.

Sebastian was filled with new questions. What did the Angel mean when she said he was an Angel? One of them? And half demon too?
