Chapter 13 - Unwanted Daughter-in-law

Chapter 13

So that's the story, He came to the house because he had to because there was no Sis Winda. I secretly sighed in disappointment. I peeked out through my glass window.

The rain hasn't stopped, it's only getting heavier. The clouds in the sky seemed to be shedding all their weight. The Azan Maghrib was heard faintly among the sound of falling rain. Incidentally, I love to have my period, so I advise Mas Azzam to immediately pray Maghrib alone.

"You don't pray, Ra?" asked Mr. Azzam. He had just finished taking ablution, maybe he was surprised to see me still sitting casually in the front room.

"No, Mas. On vacation," I answered briefly.

"Leave? Are you on your period? Do you think...." Mas Azzam did not continue his speech.

"Think, what, Mas?"

"Ah, no. Forget it. Then, Mas prayer first, okay!" I nodded then Mas Azzam entered the room to pray Maghrib.

While waiting for Mas Azzam to finish, I chose to surf in cyberspace. However, suddenly there was a loud banging on my door. It seemed that the guests who came were in trouble, so he vented it by banging on my door very loudly.

"Yeah, just a minute!" I shouted loudly. With annoyance, I opened the door of the house, it turned out that an uninvited guest named Kak Winda. He stands on his hips and looks at me with or glares.

"Come in, sis!" invite me politely.

"Hmm, where's Mas Azzam?" he asked as he entered my house.

"I'm praying in my room," I answered. Sis Winda walked around the room in my house. His eyes scanned every place and corner of the house. Every now and then she would chuckle and shake her head.

I don't understand what she means, she chuckles because she is annoyed or amazed at the cleanliness and tidiness of my house.

"Your furniture is beautiful, isn't it, Ra. Your mother-in-law is very kind to you, giving you money to buy all these things. As for me? Only the unwanted daughter-in-law in Mas Azzam's family," said Sis Winda in a different way of speaking.

Where is the Medan accent he usually wears? Why does her speaking style become the same as mine. Is she going to change to imitate me. It could be like that because he wants to be recognized as a daughter-in-law by her mother-in-law.

"I can't comment, Sis. This is also not what I want. Both of our parents have wishes." Sis Winda turned to me, I could see her eyes were wet. She was crying, I suddenly felt sorry for her.

I can imagine how it feels to be disowned by my husband's family. However, what can I do? It was a risk he had to bear alone. Didn't their marriage also happen because of his engineering that deliberately trapped Mas Azzam. My pity suddenly disappeared, replaced with anger.

"You're right, you are luckier than me," he said quietly.

"In life there is a law of cause and effect, Sis. What we sow before, that's what we reap."

"You mean, I've done something bad. That's why I'm so unlucky now, I see!" he asked curtly.

I laughed when I heard his voice was back to normal. It turns out that anger can restore a person's true nature. Sis Winda is the proof.

"In fact you laugh too, are you happy, huh, seeing my trouble?" Sis Winda is getting more and more inflamed when she sees me laughing.

"What are you doing here, Winda!" Mas Azzam suddenly was behind me. Apparently he had finished his prayers and heard everything Sis Winda said to me.

"I'm the one who wants to ask, what are you doing here. Didn't you already promised me you wouldn't come near Clara again?"

"Still dare to ask, where were you? I'm home, you're not at home," said Mas Azzam angrily too.

Sis Winda looked down then apologized. He said he was afraid to be alone at home, so he went to Mak Ijah's house. Sis Winda glanced at me, then the Korean drama started. She cried while rubbing her stomach.

"Oala, son. It's really unfortunate for you, how long will we be the people who are hidden from your grandma and grandpa," she complained as she continued to cry.

I chuckled at the play he was playing.

"Mas, it's better if you take Winda home. I'm sleepy," I told Mas Azzam. Mas Azzam nodded and took his wife home.

They walked through the rain that had started to stop. I closed the door, getting ready to sleep because my eyes were too heavy to open. However, my sleepiness suddenly disappeared as soon as I read the message my mother had just sent.

"Clara, Mama and Papa will visit tomorrow. Tell Azzam to pick us up at the airport at 8 am!"

The next day, I walked back and forth on the terrace of the house. I waited for my parents to arrive with a restless heart. Sis Winda, who was waiting on the terrace chair, was also nervous. Kak Neti also accompanied me with a tense face.

"Clara, what if your mother finds out the truth. You said she had heart disease and high blood pressure. It was dangerous that time, she shouldn't be surprised, the consequences could be fatal," said Sis Winda worriedly.

"That's one of the reasons, Sis. I can't refuse their wish when they set me up with Mas Azzam," I said.

"Yes, I understand. Last night Mas Azzam explained everything. Don't worry, as long as your parents are here, I will allow Mas Azzam to stay at your house. But remember, yes! Don't give him a chance to approach you!"

"If Azzam approaches Clara, why does it appear, Win. She is also Azzam's wife!" Sis Neti, who was also there, snapped at Sis Winda.

"It can't be like that, we already have an agreement. You can't forget, okay, Clara!" Sis Neti was about to speak again, but I immediately grabbed her hand. Sis Neti understood then shook her head as she patted the back of my hand.
