Chereads / Griffonborn / Chapter 10 - The Search For Akaris Begins

Chapter 10 - The Search For Akaris Begins

After walking a while longer, Sprite says, "I've been hearing rumours that the city's leader Aegir is under mind control. The city folk around here need our help. What do ya say, Vidar?"

Vidar believes in his soul that no one should have to be under mind control and so he will do whatever he can. With Sprite at his side, he goes off to find out what is going on in the city. Vidar asked around but no one seems to know anything about the situation. From the corner of his eye, he spots a strange-looking building. One of the main buildings that stand out in the capital of Rakoth. Vidar and Sprite know they must investigate this strange building. They head to it.

Vidar asked, "What is this place?"

"Only people with a lot of Yin Prisms come here. The mages of this Rift Temple may be greedy but they hold the most valuable information and knowledge Yin Prisms can buy as well as help refine your abilities and pass on teachings that the Griffins passed down to them. This is a newcomer's best and worst nightmare."

Vidar nods and looks up at the large building. He can already feel a presence of power and knowledge in the air.

Vidar chuckles nervously and a little excited says, "This sounds like a charming place already."

A mage comes out of the temple to greet them.

"Hello, good to meet you my young Griffonborn. I am Grigori. Come inside the Rift Temple and let me know how I can be of service."

Vidar surprised by this says, "How did you…?"

Grigori interrupted him, "Of course, I know who you are my young Griffonborn. The ancient knowledge of the Griffins and Griffonborn alike is filled with many useful things.

Sprite says to Vidar, "We can learn a lot from this mage. I'm sure he can help us figure out what's going on with Aegir."

"You're right," Vidar whispered.

Grigori realizes that Vidar is having an internal conversation with his Echo and smiles, "Ah, yes. Where are my manners? It is nice to have a little light like you as well to join and aid young Vidar on his journey"

Vidar with a hopeful but stern look says, "We are trying to figure out what's happened to Aegir. We hear that he's been acting strange and there's a rumour that someone put a spell on him to control him. What can you tell us about this?"

"It certainly sounds like something evil has been done here indeed. Whoever is behind this must have great Echo knowledge and powers. They likely are in an advantageous position to continue their manipulation. The only mage right now with the ability to cure the city leader would be my master, Akaris, although he has not been seen for many years."

"How can we find him?"

Grigori in an optimistic tone "I could make a spell that tracks him with my Void Echo ability, though every attempt I've made has failed since the location keeps changing."

With Vidar looking a little taken aback, Sprite intervenes, "So let's see if we can find Akaris"

Vidar in an excited yell, "Those exist!?"

Sprite looks at Grigori and says, "Don't mind him, he's still in training."

Vidar looks at Sprite, pouts and says, "Well you don't have to put it so bluntly."

Sprite smiles and jokingly says, "Sorry not sorry. Anyways onwards my Griffonborn trainee."

Vidar started thinking how he liked it better when Sprite was only inside his head. Sprite looks at Vidar sharply, smirking, "I heard that"

"Son of a biscuit eater!"

Vidar soon leaves the temple and starts walking to where Grigori's tracking spell leads him. He found himself in the village Imoy, which is the village that surrounds Rakoth on the southern side of the city. Vidar looked toward the sunset as well as all the small sandstone huts, that barely have space for three people, on the barren land. During the night stars are shining brighter than ever, and almost all villagers were gathered by a big bonfire celebrating the positive things in life.

Meanwhile, back in Rakoth, Shia and Samuel are both talking away from the celebration next to a hut drinking the homemade beverage crafted by Grigori.

Shia says, "Samuel, I want to go out and explore. It's so empty here. I want to see the beauty of our world, other than staying stuck here like the rest of us."

"What's wrong with it?"

"I've grown tired of it," Shia sighed.

Grigori overhears the two of them as he walks to talk to some people he knows.

Grigori exclaims, "Shia!"

Shia says, "Ahhhh, wise mage, I didn't see you there."

"That's because you aren't aware of your surroundings, so tell me why you want to leave."

Samuel cuts in, "Shouldn't you address the people?"

"Am I not addressing the people?"

"No. You're only talking to us."

Grigori responds, "Now if I were to address everyone at once, I'd merely be a wolf dictating how you guys live your life, and you, Shia, caught my attention with your dreams about travelling to new grounds."

"I feel my life is to be out there, far and beyond these wastelands," Shia explains.

"That it may. Listen here, young one, if you ever feel the need to explore, talk to me tomorrow. I'm running late. Can't keep the good people waiting."

Samuel and Shia both agree.

Grigori says, "One thing, both of you come here." Gigori looks towards the people standing near the fire as the villagers look by in awe at a gathering they haven't seen in some time.

"Rakothians," the mage announces, "It has come to my attention that some of us are abusing our powers; to gather food and supplies. We must learn to use our gifts positively at times, as we can't afford to use such power without thinking.

As Vidar walks, he finds a bottle on the ground. While he goes to pick it up a Scylla pops up and looks at Vidar.

Sprite laughs, "These little cute creatures aren't anything to worry about, just don't mess with their family and we should be fine."

Vidar shrugs and picks up the bottle that was on the ground. The Scylla growled and started to attack Vidar. Confused and surprised, Vidar backs away and tries to talk down the Scylla.

Vidar started, "Now now little Scylla, I don't wanna hurt you. I just want to take this and go."

The Scylla starts shooting beams of water at Vidar.

Vidar sighs, "Dammit. If this is how it must be."

Sprite says "Well, it seems we have no choice."

Vidar shoots wooden vines in an attempt to trap the Scylla. The Scylla shoots acidic water to melt down the wooden trap.

Vidar, surprised, says, "This little guy is a smart one."

"Why not try using other echo abilities?"

Vidar says, "I don't know how to do that."

"For now just visualize any other element."

Vidar focuses and closes his eyes. He visualizes lightning and when he opened his eyes a powerful orb of lightning appeared in his hands. He slams it down onto the Scylla and connects. The creature evaporated in a cloud of smoke. Vidar, exhausted and winded from using a new echo ability says, "Why was that Scylla so aggressive?"

Sprite responded, "Probably because of what's inside the bottle. Look at the bottle carefully."

"I don't see anything in here. What are you on about?"

"Take a closer look. These are the eggs inside the bottle."

"Son of a biscuit eater! They are so tiny I can barely see them!" Vidar exclaimed.

As Vidar recovered from using a new Echo ability his body hasn't adapted to yet, he started to think back to when Reya was taken from him and how much stronger he has become since then. Vidar looks at his scratched up hands as he lays down on the ground to rest.

Sprite says, "My little Griffonborn trainee is tired it seems. Very well, I shall keep watch while you take a nap."

After Vidar drifted into sleep, he started to have nightmares of Reya being kidnapped. It was as if he was reliving the awful moment.

Vidar jolted up and yelled, "Noo Reya!!!!"

Sprite, a little startled, attempts to calm Vidar down, "Now now, you were having a nightmare Vidar. Try to relax."

Vidar shakily says, "I can't seem to get the image of Reya being kidnapped out of my head. What is going on with me?"

Vidar clenched his fists and looked up to the night sky. Sprite looked worried, not knowing what to say or how to help.

Vidar whispered to himself, "I will find you one day and bring you back home. Everything will be normal again."

Sounding hopeful, Sprite said, "Let's take this bottle back to Grigori, Vidar."

Vidar gave himself a moment before getting up and walking over to the Rift Temple where Grigori was waiting for them.

"Welcome back young Griffonborn."

Vidar greets him and explains the story of the Scylla and shows Grigori the bottle that he found.

"Oh my," Grigori said, "It would seem that Akaris' energy has been trapped inside by a powerful Echo ability."

"What do we do now?" Sprite inquired.

"I have made a potion infused with my Void Echo that will bring his Echo abilities back once he drinks it."

Vidar interrupted, "But how are we going to find him? We haven't had any luck finding him last time."

"While I was making this potion there was a peculiar energy that I felt near an Echo focus point."

Sprite says, "Oh my, I only heard rumors about those. It's true?"

"Yes indeed, very powerful pot holes on our land that exudes Echo energy beyond imagination. We felt an unusual energy spike go through Khrarx, near the capital but you should be able to find Akaris," Grigori confirmed.

Vidar turns to Sprite, "I thought you knew everything, Sprite?"

"Oh not everything, just more than you know, haha."

Vidar gave Sprite an annoyed look.

"Why do you gotta be so harsh?"

"I'm not, I'm just very honest," Sprite chuckled.

When all the goodbyes were said Vidar made his way over to Khrarx. Sprite sensed energy stronger than he ever felt before.

"Wow, the energy in this area is insane, how are we going to find Akaris with all this energy flowing through here?"

"I don't know about you but I see an Echo energy leading somewhere.''

Sprite said "Wait, what?"

Vidar indicated the energy, "Look."

"You've been improving mighty fine my Griffonbor…"

Vidar cuts Sprite off and says, "If you finish that with sentence trainee I'm gonna be pissed."

Sprite looks at Vidar in amazement.

"I was going to say my Griffonborn lord." Sprite said smiling.

"Now let's see where he is."

Vidar slowly begins to feel stronger.

"There's immense energy flowing through me. I feel great."

"That's not surprising, you're standing on the purest form of energy on Lenart in the form of Echo."

"This feels amazing!" Vidar said excitedly.

Sprite looked into the distance, "I see someone over there. Could that be Akaris?"

"Let's go over there and find out, shall we?"

"We shall indeed."

He began to walk closer and realizing that it was Akaris Vidar said, "Why is he moving around like crazy?"

"Maybe losing his magical energy made him go crazy?"

As Vidar gets closer, he sees two of them.

"Wait, there's two of them now?!"

Sprite replied, "Yeah, he isn't able to control the small energy he has left, now it seems whoever did this must be incredibly powerful."

"Let's approach one cautiously."

"Lead the way."

Vidar walks cautiously up to one of the silhouettes of Akaris. As Vidar gets closer and closer to one of the Akaris', an asakku comes from seemingly nowhere and assaults Vidar with a Void Echo energy attack, making Vidar stumble backwards.

Sprite warns Vidar, "Watch yourself!"

The asakku blasts out a bolt of Void energy at Vidar. When he dodges it, he notices a small glimmer of light coming from both Akaris' and then everything stops as they dematerialize into a puddle.

Shocked, Vidar says, "What was that?"

The asakku suddenly continues to shoot multiple small orbs of condensed Void Echo energy at Vidar. While dodging the blasts Vidar sees every time the asakku releases one of its energy blasts, a large asakku appears and starts speeding towards him to attack with white blazing hot energy. After several attempted assaults from the asakku, a loud deep voice is heard by both Vidar and Sprite. Confused by the voice, they both let their guard down and one of the condensed orbs hits Vidars shoulder and he gets transported into a domain of the asakku's own creation. Expecting a way out but finding none, Vidar starts to explore the newly created realm. It is a dark and desolate place, the size of another world. Vidar and Sprite both realize they need to get out immediately. They both focus and Vidars eyes begin to glow a bright blue. His body engulfed in a pale blue aura as he reaches out with his strength and begins to float in the air. His body, immersed in a blue flame, starts to grow wings from his back. He spins his arms around at blinding speeds to create a flaming vortex of pure Echo energy to create a pathway back to the world of Lenart. Once he escapes, the asakku is seen burning from the inside out, screaming in agony as it draws its last breath. After the hard fought battle, Vidar is almost completely drained of energy. As the flames around him die, he falls exhausted onto the ground. A few seconds go by and Vidar begins to gain back his energy at an alarming rate. He slowly opens his eyes and stands up, looking at the beautiful horizon of the world of Lenart.

Confused, he says to Sprite, "How is this possible?"

"You used the Griffonborn power," Sprite answers proudly, "and you did it perfectly. The abundance of Echo from the Echo focused points helped you truly use the fire Echo ability that comes with the Griffonborn power, so you didn't need as much time to recover."

"This is amazing! I wonder what the other elements can do with this Griffonborn power."

"Well since you're a Griffonborn you can use all Echo abilities simultaneously, you just need to train your mind as well as your body to handle it. After we're done with this, we need to find you a trainer of each Echo element to train your body and your mind as well."

Vidar excitedly says, "This is amazing."

Sprite smiles, "You are the most unique Griffonborn I've had the pleasure of guiding. I can't wait to see how your powers evolve."

Vidar starts looking around, realizing he forgot something. He continues looking as Sprite notices that Akaris has rematerialized from the puddle.

Vidar, confused by the man standing in front of him, cautiously approaches Akaris.

Vidar says, "Akaris?"

Akaris with a confused and worrisome look asked, "Who are you?"

Sprite floats out of Vidar and says in a calm and peaceful tone, "My name is Sprite and this is Vidar. He's a Griffonborn in training. We're here to help you and give you this."

Sprite hands the potion that Grigori made.

Vidar mumbles under his breath, "Son of a biscuit eater you just had to say it didn't ya."

Sprite laughs, "It's just too good."

Akaris says, "I do feel weird, what's going on?"

"A spell was put on you by someone. We don't know who, but your apprentice said that you could help us," Vidar answered.

Akaris, now confused and scared, says "Who's my apprentice?"

Sprite while inside Vidar says, "Oh dear, he's more far gone than I thought."

Vidar says calmly, "Drink this potion and we can explain everything once your mind is cleared."

Akaris agrees and drinks the potion.

Sprite asks, "How do you feel?"

Akaris looks around trying to remember.

"Ah yes, thank you. I feel much better now and my memory is coming back to me."

Vidar looks at Akaris and says, "Now who would put you in such a state that you were in?"

Akaris, visibly upset and disappointed with himself says, "Probably the sorry sack of maggot trash that placed the village leader under a spell."

Vidar realizes Akaris is back to his normal self again and smiles.

"How can we help the village leader?"

Akaris looked to Vidar, "I haven't the faintest idea how. When I tried to face off against this unusual foe, I was left almost completely drained out of my Echo energy."

Sprite says, "He's that powerful?"

Vidar began to look worried.

Akaris saw the look on his face and said, "Do not worry, I will figure out how to reverse what has happened to the village leader. I just need time."

Vidar says, "However we can help, let us know and we will do what we can."

"It is much appreciated. Thank you for restoring my Echo energy young Griffonborn. I am grateful to you. I will let you know how you can help and I will call for you once I know."

Sprite says, "Very well then we'll be looking forward to helping."

Akaris begins to walk back to the Rift Temple while Vidar sits down reflecting on what has happened.

When he and Sprite are alone, Vidar says, "Why do Grigori and the Akaris look the same?"

"Because that's how the Griffins made them."

"Wait, what?! The Griffins made the mages?"

"Well, yes, the Griffins needed someone to teach and pass down their skills and knowledge too and to lead the people of Lenart into a better life."

Vidar says curiously, "Then why did that Griffin attack me if they are supposed to be good?"

Sprite says, "Well, there hasn't been any sightings of Griffins for many eons, but the rumor is that there was a war that broke out and they soon became mad that it happened, after they trained the mages of course."

Vidar ponders on what he's just learned and looks over to see what Sprite calls the Calamity Runes.

"This looks very familiar."

Sprite reads, "Many eons ago, Lenart was ravaged by comets and solar flares sent by The Seren."

Vidar goes to touch the Calamity Rune. As he touches it, he sees a ginormous purple figure, larger than the entire planet of Lenart. Vidar looks around and sees he is in a dark and bleak place. He sees a giant explosion in the middle of the figure's hand. The force of gravity that's being generated is so immense that it's pushing Vidar backwards.

In shock Vidar opens his eyes. He is sweating when he realizes that Calamity Runes tell the birth of the planet.

Sprite looks at Vidar and says, "We need to find more of these if we wish to truly understand the world we reside in."

"How many are there?" Vidar asked.

Sprite says, "No one truly knows for sure. It's a mystery, even to me."

Vidar looks up, thinks for a second and then says, "We should try finding all of them. I wanna understand the history of Lenart."

"Are you sure?"

Vidar nods his head, "Yeah, I believe if I understand how the energy that we all have came to be, I can become much stronger and defeat Xenon."

Sprite grinned, "That's the spirit. You've grown a lot since I first showed myself to you."

"You think so?"

Sprite confidently says, "Yeah most definitely!"

Vidar smiles and looks at Sprite, "We should probably go check on Grigori and Akaris. They may have figured something out."

"Good idea let's go."

Vidar walked over to the Rift Temple, knocked on the door and walked in.

Vidar says, "So have you guys figured anything out?"

Akaris looked up at him, "Yes, we have. It's a unique spell that causes mages to lose a good portion of their magic. Non mages would be left in an almost trance-like state and they can't really function as they used to, they become a sort of puppet."

Vidar looks shocked and says, "Wow. There's a person out there strong enough to do that?"

Grigori answers, "I'm afraid so. The source of the Echo power being used is a conduit of some sort and we just need to destroy it to weaken the spell and help the village leader regain control of himself."

Sprite says, "So we just destroy this conduit and the village leader is saved? That sounds straightforward enough."

Vidar curiously asks, "How many of these conduits are there?"

Akaris replied, "The energy is coming from Twins Peak. That's where the second one is, the first one was within me. It was destroyed when you rescued me. Out of the two we know of, the third, and what I believe to be the final one, should soon show up after destroying the second one. I know not where it is."

Sprite says, "And what's the easiest way to destroy the other one?"

"Well we can either use Fire Echo, or brute strength."

Sprite says, "Very well we need to go there first then."

They say their goodbyes once again and looking determined, Vidar walks over to Twins Peak.

Sprite says, "Oh my, I can definitely feel a strong energy source in this area. We should be close."

Vidar walks around the village of Twin Peaks while Sprite notices the energy growing stronger by the second.

"Be on guard Vidar, I have a strange feeling."

Suddenly an Indrik jumps out at them out of nowhere.

Vidar says with a worried look on his face, "Son of a biscuit eater."

"We are going to have our hands full with this one."

"You don't say?

The Indrik roars and unleashes a powerful Earth Echo energy attack that knocks both Vidar and Sprite back. Vidar shoots out Earth Echo chains from both his hands and prepares to fight back.

"Vidar, I've got a plan. Leave this to me."

Sprite ignites the Griffonborn energy within Vidar and unleashes a powerful fire that roars through Vidar and causes the Indrik to stumble backwards. The fireball then crashes into the Indrik, breaking the second conduit and it runs away in fear.

Sprite says, "That was an Indrik, one of the more dangerous creatures Lenart has to offer. The Indrik running away was no small feat for you to make that creature do Vidar."

Vidar says, "Me? You did all the heavy lifting. I'm jealous of what you can do."

"You'll soon be able to," Sprite said with a wink.

Vidar and Sprite head off to continue their journey.

Sprite says, "The first two conduits have been destroyed."

As Vidar tries to continue walking he falls back and says, "We have to find the next conduit."

"We will, but for now you need to rest and conserve your energy."

Vidar passes out onto the ground.

"Don't worry, I will watch over you."

While having a dream, Vidar sees Reya. Vidar, confused but excited, says, "Reya?! I've found you!"

Reya looking confused, says, "Vidar..is that you? What are you doing here?''

Vidar wakes up. He realized it was just a dream and got up.

Sprite looks at him, "Ready to go?"

Vidar hesitated, "Yeah. I think so."

As they continue walking they try to locate the third and final conduit. After a few hours of walking through Twin Peaks, they eventually find it.

Vidar looks in awe, "This is it. The third conduit that will lead us to the heart of the Griffonborn."

Sprite looks around cautiously and says, "Be careful. There could be danger here."

Suddenly Xenon shows himself.

"Well well well, if it isn't my young Griffonborn. I've been watching you," he laughs. Xenon sits on the conduit looking at them from atop.

Vidar looks angered but Sprite reassures Vidar from within, "Stay calm Vidar, keep a clear head."

Vidar nods silently.

Xenon continues, "It's been a long time since I saw you two."

"What do you want?" Vidar says firmly.

Xenon says with a grin, "You two are the only ones that have the power to excite me and make me feel truly alive."

He then stands up and hovers towards Vidar, "Let's make a deal, I'll grant you both power beyond your imagination, you just have to follow my command." Xenon then licks his lips and laughs maniacally.

Vidar says, "The only deal that I'll make is you setting my sister free and turning yourself in to the Nariku Knights."

Xenon grins and licks his lips, "How fascinating, I like your ambition," he mockingly pouts looking at Vidar, "but sadly that's not possible."

Vidar narrows his eyes, "What do you mean it's not possible?"

Xenon starts laughing maniacally and lunges towards Vidar to attack him using a sharp Water Echo blade aimed towards Vidars shoulder.

"Now, you'll agree to my offer or die here."

Vidar, angry at Xenon's attempt to attack, summons a powerful force of wind that throws Xenon back and forms a large wind wall to protect himself.

"I'll never agree to your terms, you monster!" He screams.

Xenon charges back at Vidar but is blocked by a strong gust of wind. Xenon creates multiple clones of himself and uses his feet to form a drill made of ice that dives into the ground. The clones of Xenon all dash forward to try and attack Vidar through the wind wall. As the clones close in on Vidar he unleashes a powerful blast of wind that blows the clones away. Xenon comes through the ground from underneath Vidars feet and grabs ahold of him and begins to use his Ice Echo ability to restrain him. Xenon then begins a chant to bind Vidar's power within him and looks directly into Vidar's eyes.

"I won."

While inside Vidars mind Sprite says, "He has another thing coming for him. Let your body go still Vidar."

He relaxed his body and his eyes began to glow blue. Vidar creates five different clones of himself and starts to rain lightning bolts down on Xenon. Xenon produces a clone of himself and jumps back as he evaporates into thin air with a laugh. One of the lightning bolts strikes the final conduit, destroying it. The five clones then shoot lightning bolts out in every direction.

Vidar, now out of breath and exhausted from using his Lightning Echo ability, says, "That was too close, are you okay?"

Sprite responds seriously, "I'm alright, but this will be the last time that I use that before you are ready. We need to get you trained properly with your lightning as well as all of the other Echo elements if you are going to master being a Griffonborn."

Sprite uses Fire Echo ability to partly heal Vidars fatigue and then smiles brightly.

"Thank you Sprite, I'll take your advice and start training to be the best Griffonborn I can be."

Sprite says, "Great, now let's head back to the temple. I think we have destroyed all the conduits now."

Vidar nods, "Yes, Let's go."

As the two travel back to Akaris, they overlook a wide open field stretching far and wide. Vidar can't help but marvel at the sheer beauty of the scene.

Sprite looks up at Vidar and smiles, "Today was a success."

"Has the spell been broken?" Vidar asks Akaris after they arrive at the Rift Temple.

Akaris says, "Only one way to find out my young Griffonborn. Head over to the capital of Rakoth where the village leader is."

Vidar and Sprite look at each other and set off on their journey towards the capital. Eventually they arrive at the capital and look for Aegir. When they find and greet him, he doesn't speak.

"Are you feeling okay?" asked Vidar.

Aegir stays quiet and doesn't talk while a small ball of darkness comes out of him. Sprite senses something is wrong.

Sprite says, "Oh boy, somethings coming."

Vidar had been on this quest to save Aegir from the curse that had befallen him, something that has seemed to take a very long time. The ball was the Orb of Darkness, a powerful artifact that was said to hold the key to breaking any curse. Vidar knew that he had found what he was looking for. As Vidar goes to reach for the Orb of Darkness a giant Griffin, a size Vidar has never seen before, jumps out of the orb. The Griffin roared and extended its wings and claws, ready to fight.

Vidar takes a fighting stance and shouted in a powerful voice, "I will not allow you to torment Aegir's mind anymore!"

Vidar created a huge ball of Earth Echo energy and lunged at the Griffin. The Griffin is now angry so he shoots small condensed darts of Void Echo energy towards Vidar. Vidar manages to dodge each one and gets close to the Griffin.

"Do not let any of these orbs hit you Vidar, they have a unique ability where if they touch you it'll damage your soul!" Sprite shouts.

Vidar acknowledges the warning and begins to focus. He concentrates and his body glows with a bright white light. Sprite senses what Vidar is attempting to do because of their connection with each other. Sprite can hear Vidars thoughts in real time and helps him channel the Echo energy inside him, as well as amplify Vidars powers. Sprite casts a spell that binds the Echo energies into a shield protection, blocking any incoming attacks from the Griffin. Angered by this, the Void Griffin lunges towards Vidar, thrusting its talons at Vidar only to be repelled by the shield. Vidar then waves his right hand and rocks start to circle his hands forming a protective dome around himself and the Griffin. The Griffin then tries to break the dome but fails again and again. Sharp branches begin to materialize in Vidars other hand and he shoots it towards the Griffin. The branches manage to hit the Griffin and weaken it, even more enraged by this the Griffin flys up and, cloaking itself in Void Echo energy, starts to spin, drilling through Vidars protective shield while shooting laser beams at Vidar. Vidar, forming another shield in front of himself, manages to protect him from the beam while the dome around him starts to break. Seeing that the Griffin might soon penetrate the dome, Vidar then quickly, in sync with Sprite, launches a fire induced fist of flaming Echo energy right at the Griffin's head, overpowering him and the Griffin collapses. With the Griffin defeated, Vidar and Sprite catch their breath in relief. Aegir is now freed from the affliction and comes to his senses.

Aegir, confused, says, "Who are you? What happened to me?"

Vidar In a welcoming and calm manner says, "My name is Vidar. Do you remember anything of what happened to you?"

Aegir says, "All I can remember is a guy saying that he'd be a better fit to rule in my place. When I asked him who he was he referred to me as a mortal and him to be some kind of god."

Surprised, both Vidar and Sprite look at each other and then back to Aegir.

"Did he say what his name was?" Vidar asked.

"He said his name was Xenon, does that ring any bells to you?"

"Yes, I know of Xenon. That son of a biscuit eater is the guy who kidnapped my sister Reya."

"Can you remember anything else about him?" asks Sprite.

Aegir says, "I am so sorry that's happened to you, but this is all of the information I know about. If there's anything that I can do that can be of service please let me know."

Vidar says determinedly, "I just need information about the whereabouts of Xenon. He always seems to be one step ahead of everything I try to do and I keep missing him."

Aegir says, "I did hear a while ago that a mysterious figure keeps popping up in Imoy, but I warn you, that village is very dangerous."

Vidar and Sprite both look at Aegir with a mixture of fright and awe in their eyes.

"I appreciate the warning," says Vidar.

Sprite, so that only Vidar hears him, says, "Let's look for him in some other areas. We should go to a less dangerous village to see if we can find him."

Vidar nods his head in agreement before turning back to Aegir.

"Thanks for the warning, Aegir."

Aegir smiled and said "No need to thank me."

Vidar while inside his mind speaks to Sprite and says, "We should head back to the Pyro Myrtle Tavern to see how Jeremy is."

Sprite nods his head in agreement and the two of them begin to make their way back to the tavern to see if they have any information regarding the mysterious figure.
