CHAPTER 9: TESTED
Bring out your arm. The doctor said in a meal and menacing tone as Alyssa cringed.
She didn't know which one was way worse, the voice of the doctor, or the syringe, she watched him tear out of the wrapper, with no emotions. He seemed voids, emotionless.
She watched him as he dipped the syringe in a bottle of silver goo and extracted some quantity.
What was that thing? Is that what they were going to inject in her. Alyssa gulped.
There was no way of escape and she couldn't possibly beg the doctor to let her go, he wouldn't do such thing.
Alyssa was yanked off her thoughts, when the doctor grabbed her hand and pulled it towards him, scaring Alyssa as she tried to pull away but couldn't. His grip was too strong
I don't repeat myself twice. The doctor said tightening the hold on her hand as he reached forward with the syringe.
Alyssa was hyperventilating already. She tried not to scream, it wouldn't work and she tried to keep herself calm because if she was unsteady and the syringe broke in her arm, it was going to be worse.
Think happy thoughts, happy thoughts, happy thoughts. She said continuously in her mind, as she squeezed her eyes shut waiting for the searing pain that never came.
Taken back, she opened an eye, but the doctor wasn't there, everywhere being blue, and it seemed like it was flowing with electricity.
She was taken back, she wasn't in the room again, rather she was standing.
Hello! She called out, as she looked around, but everywhere was empty.
Electra! The voice came like an echo, reverberating throughout the room.
She turned but couldn't see anyone, yet the voice sounded familiar, too familiar.
"Who are you? She called out again, as she tried to pinpoint the direction of the voice.
Well...I am you. We are one. The voice called again.
But i am not Electra! You got me confused with some one else. Alyssa said as she turned around and started walking in one direction.
Stop! The voice called again, but Alyssa ignored it, as she kept on trudging forward.
Stop, or you are going to fall. The voice called out again, but Alyssa stumbled and fell, breaking out of her thoughts.
She blinked her eyes as she saw the doctor slowly removing the syringe. He seemed oblivious to what just happened.
And she couldn't feel pain, just a zap of electricity which kept tingling but she concealed it.
She couldn't believe what was happening, she waited for the doctor observation, as he dipped the extract in a colorless liquid.
It instantly changed to black, from silver, as the doctor nodded his head slowly.
He looked at Alyssa, and back at the content, still nodding his head.
Alyssa was getting scared, is the nod a good thing or a bad thing.
You are human. You may go. He concluded as he dropped the content underneath the table.
Alyssa needed no further prodding, being here with him was already giving her the heebies jeebies.
Stuttering out a thank you, she reached for her bag and stood up quickly, immediately making for the door, as she got closer to the door.
She heard the same familiar echo again, reaching her ears, as she winced.
It was louder, now, more direct, more painful.
The choices you make today will either destroy you or save you. This is the year where all your troubles begin.
"Two as one and one as two, one is disowned, other in denial, one is dead and so the other will be,"
That was the exact same thing that old man said in the aero plane but she had waved it off like a dream.
Was this a dream too? Maybe she was still sleeping. Because the doctor was supposed to hear that thing, because it was damned loud.
You have been staring at the door for close to five minutes now. Do you want me to call security to throw you out? The doctor said as he brought out more bottles from his box.
Alyssa paused and turned back in time as her eyes strayed to the table and saw that the black content has reversed back to its original color.
Gulping, she opened the door and walked out.
Immediately Alyssa stepped out of the screening room she was besieged by her friends.
"So, what happened. Did they inject you?" Dwight asked, as he held her and searched her entire body for bruises or marks. Hazel rolled her eyes inwardly, when she saw this. He didn't bother asking her, when she came out of the room, but immediately Alyssa stepped out, he flew like a hawk towards her and kept checking her, like a concerned mother. She shouldn't be angry, she had no right anyways, but sometimes, she wished that he would notice that she existed too.
"Yeah they did, isn't injections painful?" Alyssa asked, as she faced them. She looked surprised or confused or both. Did something happen that she can't believe it? Sian wondered as she paid closer attention to them.
"Of course, they are. Why are you asking us? it stings as if a trillion bees stung you at once" Hazel said, as they all turned to face her.
"Okay, I am exaggerating this part, but yeah, injections hurt like mad. What happened? Hazel asked holding her books in her hands.
"It's because...never mind." Alyssa said shaking her head, as she kicked at the floor, bringing up a little bit of dust. Dwight took her hand and squeezed it tightly.
"You are my best friend, so is Hazel, and if for once that you think, that we would let anything concerning you slide, you are completely mistaken, so I suggest that you tell us this instant, or we will force it out of you. Dwight threatened her a bit as she smiled. Alyssa gasped as she pulled her hand away from his grip.
"Come on spill, we were expecting to hear you scream out when you entered but nothing so spill." Sian said looking at her.
"Well, it's probably nothing. It is just that when the doctor wanted to draw my blood, the needle broke, then the second one, it didn't pain me, the doctor said I was clean. That I was ordinary, but when I got to the door, the spot where she injected healed, like no sore spots or anything."
"Wow that's…. freaky. you are like superman, the kryptonite."
"Superman was an alien, and no needle could penetrate him, beside the doctor said she was clean, so maybe you have a fast regenerative system, the wound was small so it healed completely that's all." Hazel said.
"Sure, anyways who is in for some ice-creams, let's get out of this hellhole" Dwight said.
"I am." Sian and Alyssa chorused together, as they laughed holding each other. Dwight chuckled at them, behaving as sisters as he shook his head and faced Hazel
"What about you, hazel?" Dwight asked, gesturing to her, as she was currently zipping her bag. Hazel paused, in what she was doing, and muttered underneath her breath, isn't Alyssa the love of your eyes? Why then are you including me?
Sorry, I didn't get what you say. Dwight said stepping closer as the girls stopped laughing and watched them, curious.
"Whatever, so long that I am not paying." Hazel said as they all left the school premises.
