Chapter 3 - Alex

There were as many thoughts as the number of the audience at the scene. But the core of the maelstrom of thoughts in their minds at this time was the same. All of them were waiting for a single moment. The moment that the god of sex would cease to exist within the confines of the Kingdom of gods. In the history of divine world, this was the first time that a god was being thrown into the mortal world as punishment.

The god of sex himself was uncertain as he was venturing into uncharted territory that had not been explored by any of the gods before. The mortal world had been worlds apart from the gods and even the weakest one in the entire Kingdom of gods was someone the mortals couldn't dare defy. Therefore, none of the gods had ever felt the need to bother about the mortals. Their lives, their troubles, their beliefs and their feeble existence that could be snuffed out by the mere breaths of the gods was something of a fantasy for them. The god of sex was unaware of what would be waiting for him once he opened his eyes in the mortal world. Therefore, he wanted to take one more look. He wanted to see his loved ones for the last time so that he could save the memory of this moment inside his soul. This way he wouldn't be able to forget the faces of those who had given him so much love and devotion despite him being unworthy of it.

One last time, he glanced at the face of each divine being who stood amongst the crowd watching the play centered around his death.

Just before he could turn his head back towards his final destination he felt a familiar silhouette standing amongst the crowd inconspicuously as if she didn't want to be seen by him. As he met her hesitant eyes, a tide of emotions surged out of his very soul and a flood of memories swept past all the barriers that he had erected around himself to remain strong in his last moments.

A summer evening filled with the sound of raindrops falling continuously, a sweet scent in the air and the majestic palace that stood firm in the background; all of it was still as fresh in his mind as the first time he had laid his eyes on her. A heavenly beauty straight out of fairy tales had walked straight into his heart at the time. Even the beauty of the rainy evening had looked pale in comparison as she had strolled in the well-groomed lawn to enjoy the embrace of nature that was already in awe of her presence. The raindrops had kissed her white attire damp as a smile as bright as the stars flickering in the darkness took over her perfect face. He felt just as lost as he had at that time.

He blinked his eyes once more and all of it was gone. He looked for the silhouette that he had imagined among the audience but failed to spot her once again. He shook his head and turned his attention towards his family and friends.

"Don't be sad. This parting is only temporary after all. We are going to meet again soon. That much I can promise."

He looked at his brothers' steadfast but bitter expressions and continued,

"Once we do, let's laugh and drink a lot like we used to."

The friends who were closer to him than his brothers nodded in return with a determined look in their eyes while the goddesses who he had not addressed felt aggrieved in their hearts and yet refused to say anything.

Seeing as all his lovers were looking at him with such soul piercing eyes, he couldn't just stay silent. He thought that he should at least get back at them.

"I will bring back lots of sisters for you so I am giving you all a heads up. Don't think that I am going to change. Hahahaha"

The goddesses cursed at him playfully as they knew that they were not the only ones who were suffering. They wanted to let him know that they would be all right and that they would wait for him until he returned.

As soon as he was done, the god of sex turned towards the reincarnation tunnel and shouted without looking back with a mysterious smile on his face.

"I will be back soon."

There was absolute confidence in his voice as if he already knew the outcome and had planned everything already.

After having said his piece, and without waiting for the escorts to the job for him, the god of sex jumped off the cliff into the whirlpool that symbolized the entrance of the reincarnation tunnel and the way to the mortal realm which would be the beginning of his new life.

The audience had been unable to see the mysterious smile on his face and it seemed that he had wanted it to be that way as he had purposefully uttered his last words while facing away from them.

The reason that his voice had been unwavering and impossibly confident had to do with this smile as well. The reason behind his declaration was something that only he knew about; a card that he had hidden up his sleeve which was capable of ruining the game board itself.

Humans live a life that is hard to predict and even harder to understand. No matter the reason, every human is miserable in his own way and has his own way of coping. The reasons for their difficulties and their misery are sometimes contributed to the acts of gods and sometimes to unavoidable circumstances but the truth of it all is in fact very simple and yet the hardest to grasp. The reason is that all the truths are variable and the ultimate truth is different for each individual like the answers to an open ended question in an interview. Every human is a walking puzzle that has its own solution and no one other than them is able to solve their puzzle.

Therefore, all humans keep looking for their truth throughout their lives. Some manage to find the answer to their questions and are miserable because of it since they have no other purpose left while others keep wandering for the answer and are miserable because of that.

Alex was one such human who was looking for the answer to the question that had been hounding him ever since he had begun to understand his surroundings a little bit better. He wanted to know why his life was so miserable. The need to understand the reasons behind his circumstances governed his thought process as he cursed his fate and the gods who watched on but never interfered to make his life a bit better. He was bitter and lonely as he looked back on the life that he had lived.

Alex had previously heard words like, 'It will get better with time', 'Time heals all wounds', 'Hardships in life will lead to prosperity', 'It is nothing but a test from the gods', and what not, but he had found them all to be full of sh*t.

No wounds had healed for him, he was still living like a gutter rat, a loser in his entirety shirked and laughed at by everyone around him.

Growing up in the orphan he had questioned himself as to where his parents were. A boy with no origin and no set goal can only have so much ambition. He lacked the skills to excel in academics, had no family that could support him financially and no relationships to lean back on for comfort when he was being hounded by the misery that followed him around like it was fated for him since birth.

Alex had had a lot of time to accustom himself to the fact that no matter what he did, he was bound to fail. He was sure that if there actually was some kind of god out there who was responsible for his miserable existence, then it was surely a lousy one who couldn't care less about him. The fact that all his endeavors ended up as failure couldn't be attributed to his lack of skill or will to work hard alone, it had to with the destiny that had been already written for him.
