Just mentioning his name makes my stomach growl. This is definitely not a good offer. But I could have done it if the reward was to stop bothering Mikaela, Shyla, Esther, and Bianca.
In response to Trixie's question, I nodded. "Yeah."
"Kiss him in public. If successful, your friends will be free."
Suddenly my mouth opened with my 'what the fuck' expression. Is she crazy?? Kissing Justin Lancaster in public?! If the challenge she gave me was rock climbing, running a marathon, fighting, or fencing, I could still take it. Just bury me alive or mummify me right now.
"No!" I hastily replied with a shake of my head. "That's gross. I don't want to."
"I'm not pushing, Daphne." Taking a deep breath, Trixie ran her fingers through her hair. There was a mysterious little smile on her lips looking at my pale face.
It's not that I'm afraid to take on such a challenge. The problem is…
The problem is I've never kissed a guy. Never mind kissing them, just looking at them is fed up. Especially typical like Justin Lancaster. No, no, no!
I took a deep breath. "Please, something else." If the object is Marcel, I will do it. LOL.
"You probably didn't know me before." Trixie stepped forward. Her dark eyes met mine, staring at me intimidatingly. "I don't give any other choice. So if you have the guts and prove your heroic attitude to your friends, you better take this offer. The challenge is easy, right?"
What's easy? If I had a choice, I'd rather go to war with Voldemort than kiss Justin in public. It's called social suicide. Just imagining his face made me want to punch him.
Be strong, Daph. You're smart, you have all kinds of ways okay?
Okay.
"Alright. Okay. I accept your challenge. I will kiss him in public." Accidental kissing counts, right? Let's just say yes. Please defend me.
"Okay. You have big guts." Smiling crookedly, Trixie stepped back and walked away, leaving Shyla and me alone in the toilet.
Now I can bang my head against the wall as usual. I banged my forehead against the wall, time and time again, cursing inside myself for agreeing to Trixie's challenge just to free my new friends. Can you imagine that?
"Daph, Daph, if you don't want to, it's better not to." Shyla held me against my forehead for the seventh time. "That's okay. We are used to getting rough treatment from them."
I exhaled harshly. "Well, Shyla. I already agreed to the challenge. If I don't, my reputation will be damaged. Okay?"
"But-"
"'But' it's not in my life dictionary. Now forget the incident earlier and pretend the challenge is not real. I'll take care of it myself. Maybe, for now, I need some time to think."
Shyla showed a face full of regret. I patted her on the shoulder, putting on the smile I forced—sure, the result would be like a horse.
