Chapter 11 - The First Pack Member

Loyalty.

On the surface, loyalty is a very direct concept. In truth, loyalty can mean many different things and can lead down many different paths. What Ambrose is proposing to Brett is a completely different path. If Brett was to accept, he would have to follow orders for the rest of his possibly immortal lifetime. His entire bloodline would follow the pack's leader to the end of time. That's what loyalty means to a Werewolf. That's also why the Werewolf race is so strong, it is because pack members are loyal to each other to the death. This is what loyalty means to a Werewolf.

"Loyalty?" Brett softly muttered. Brett did not know much about Werewolf lore, but he knew that they group together much like wolves do and form packs.

"Who else is in this pack of yours?" Brett inquired carefully.

"No one yet, you would be the first."

"The first? Why me?" Brett asked.

"Sometimes an Alpha can sense if there's a human with strong potential, I sensed it in school about a month ago." Ambrose did not hide anything. Indeed this was the case. What Ambrose didn't tell him was that it was actually extremely rare for this phenomenon to happen and it was possible that another Alpha would come after Brett to turn him.

Telling Brett this would defeat Ambrose's entire purpose. He wanted Brett to choose this on his own free will so that he could gain absolute loyalty.

Brett closed his eyes and fell into deep contemplation once again. Ambrose couldn't blame him, after all this would be the biggest and toughest decision of his life.

Soon after, Brett finally opened eyes but they were different. They held something inside of them that was unfamiliar to the current Brett, but all too familiar with his former self.

Resolve.

"If you can heal my legs and give me power I would gladly serve you for the rest of my life." Brett strongly stated. If he could use his legs, he might have actually took a knee as a show of loyalty.

"Good."

CHOMP!

Ambrose's canines started elongating and with one swift movement, he bit down on Brett's arm.

Suddenly, Brett felt a searing pain coming from his left forearm. The pain left as quickly as it came but what replaced it was much worse. Like something was crawling up his veins, the Werewolf venom slowly made its way up his arm, making his veins wriggle and squirm in agony.

"AHHHHHHHH!"

Shrill screams rang throughout the forest. Perched birds flew out of the trees in terror and animals stayed at least a mile away from the source of those screams.

The venom made its way into Brett's heart soon enough and quickly spread throughout the entirety of his body, making Brett look like a grotesque monster with every vein bulging on his body.

After minutes of screaming, the veins on his body slowly reverted back to their original state and Brett finally fell unconscious. On the surface, Brett looked completely normal but Ambrose knew that what was happening on the inside was the complete opposite of normal.

Every part of Brett's human physique was being augmented and changed. The Werewolf venom was slowly grinding down every weakness in his body and changing it for the better. The venom slowly made its way from his bones, muscles, organs and such. Then finally made its way to his spine.

Any injury can be healed by Werewolf venom, but the length of the process depends on the severity of the injury. The nerves that control the lower body were all severely damaged. The venom slowly strengthened the entirety of his spine until it got to the damaged nerves where the long process had begun.

Only after several hours did the venom start to dissipate. Brett finally opened his eyes as he saw the world for the first time with his new senses. The colors, the smells, the sounds, and the feeling of the wind blowing on his face had a completely different feeling.

Brett was soon taken out of his reverie when he finally smelled the disgusting stench of the impurity that was forced out of his body.

BLEHHH!

Brett threw up, much like Ambrose. After all, the smell of something as foul as that was too much for a new Werewolf who cannot control his senses yet.

"Here." Ambrose said as he used his Wolf Aura to remove the impurities from Brett's body and clothes with precision.

SPLAT!

The impurities fell to the ground and settled into the grass.

Ambrose looked at Brett with a funny look and said; "What's wrong? Aren't you going to try it?"

"Try? Try what?" Brett was confused.

"…"

"Try standing up."

Brett was dumbfounded. Indeed, the main reason he made this deal was to get his ability to walk back.

He lifted his right leg up and realized he was not dreaming. Pushing up on his wheelchair he slowly put two feet on the ground before stomping them lightly.

THUMP!

THUMP!

Feeling a vibration running through his legs he knew that he could truly walk again. Unknowingly, a tear slipped out of his eye.

"Now." Ambrose said sternly as his eyes glowed and his pressure came spilling out. "It's time to swear loyalty to your Alpha."

Brett's eyes unconsciously glowed while feeling the pressure of an Alpha. Instead of blue though, his were yellow. Signifying that Brett was a Beta.

"What do I have to do?" Brett asked as his blood was shivering from Ambrose's pressure.

"Bend the knee to me and you will join my pack." Ambrose said.

Brett knew what to do next. He knew that this was coming after the deal he made, but he just didn't know if being inducted into Ambrose's pack would be a good thing or a bad thing.

Brett slowly went down on one knee and lowered his head and said: "I give my loyalty to you, Alpha."

Slowly looking up, what he saw was indescribable. From his demeanor, posture, or charisma… he only had one word to describe what he saw in Ambrose in that moment.

Ruler.
