Chapter 1 - Forgetting

A little girl laid tucked underneath the large covers, arms hugging a penguin plushy. Her breath small and calm suddenly turned quick as she scrunch her eyebrows. Hearing a sound coming from the other side of her bedroom.

"Princess Maria! Please wake up!" the maid knocked on the door and heard no response. "Princess Maria! Please wake up, you would be late for your first class!" Ms. Annie called and knocked more harshly this time trying to wake the little Lady up.

Little lashes flutter open, rays of sunlight hitting her blue eyes. "I am up, Ms. Annie." she said, dreading to go to the first day of class at the Royal Palace. Her parents wanted her to go to class with a bunch of people she doesn't know. Thinking about meeting and studying with new people, she didn't like that. She would miss spending time with her caretaker, playing with her cats, being out in nature, drawing and painting too. Basically, anything that she wants to do, she would miss because she can't do it now as her time would be occupied with class. She doesn't like that idea, but her parents was insisted.

"Trust me, sweety, you will have a fun time, you get to make new friends! Isn't that exciting?" Her mother said, feeling enthusiastic about her daughter going to class as if she was the one going to the first day of school.

"No, that sounds boring, I want to play with my Leo..." Maria said. She pouted not liking the idea.

"Can I say no, father?" she pleaded. "Well... you have to go to class." Her father said.

"I don't want to go!" she screamed and bolted from the room but her father quickly caught her and carried her in his arms. "Ah! I don't want to go!" she said struggling to free herself from her father's arms which held her to be still.

"Don't worry sweety, you will have time to play with your cat. It would be fun, because you will get to learn a lot of new things in class." Her father said. "It won't be that bad, it will be better than what you have imagined!" Her mother added.

Remembering her parents words, she frowned. Maria who despised the idea, didn't imagined anything nor did she dreamed that night. She doesn't understand how going to class and meeting new people would be fun.

The maid walked in her bedroom and chuckled seeing how adorable Princess Maria's hair looked. It was ruffled at the top and tangled at the bottom; her pout accompanied with her messy brown hair added the extra cuteness to it. "Let me help you with your hair Princess." the maid said and started to brush her brown hair. Maria changed into a yellow dress with ruffles at the bottom and wore a white cardigan on top. After having breakfast with her parents, Maria grabbed her already packed bag and made her way to class with her Mother.

Her classroom is up at the North side of the Palace, in an old castle like building which she never ventured before. Maria only likes to stay in her bedroom or the other rooms in the castle that her parents own which is situated on the east side of the Palace. She never went further than that because she never needed too.

Soft footsteps traveled across the wooden floor that lead to a door. One hand clutched her bag tightly and the other hand was holding her mother's hand. The door to the classroom was already opened to welcome the royal children, including her.

"You will have a good time sweety. I will see you later today." Her mother kissed Maria's cheek and bid her goodbye for now. She peek her head in the door, glancing at all the people around her age before the teacher told her to walk in. Maria walked to the empty table at the front, placed next to the window as all the other seats were already occupied. Pulling the chair, it made a screeching sound which she had no intention to make and her little accident made everyone in the class turn to look at her.

"That's a beautiful sound, Princess Maria." the teacher said sarcastically which the students did not understand. Maria felt embarrassed and quickly sat down on the chair, the teacher continued talking.

"All right everyone, my name is Daniella Winter, you can call me Ms. Winter and I will be your home room teacher. You can always ask me anything if you need help. Now why don't you kids introduce yourselves?"

Starting from the back, the students stood up and introduced themselves one by one. Maria who is daydreaming, looking out of the window did not paying attention. She heard a tapping sound on her table and her head turned to see the teacher in front of her. "It is your turn now" Ms. Winter said.

Maria stood up, carefully lifting her chair this time to avoid making another screeching sound, she introduce herself. "Hello, my name is Maria Florence." she said and sat back down on her chair.

Ms. Winter felt a bit shocked at such a blunt introduction. "So, Princess Maria why don't you tell us more about yourself? Like your likes and dislikes, your hobbies and anything else you would like to share?"

"I am 7 years old."

"and?"

"I like cats."

"Is that all?" Ms. Winter asked. Maria nod and the teacher decided to let it go and not push her for more answers because it seems like Maria is not keen to share more about herself.

As class officially started, Ms Winter was teaching the first subject, which is English. Maria opened her bag to get her English textbook out and her pink pencil case. She flipped to the first page and stared blankly at the textbook. She felt dazed, it was hard to concentrate as the teacher just went on and on about the same paragraph and she slowly drifted to sleep as time passed. Maria fell asleep in a straight sitting position, her head slightly dipped forward as her neck was trying to support the head while sleeping.

"Alright everyone, take out your exercise book and copy these questions down. Pass up your answers before class ends." Ms. Winter said and with that Maria woke up to what felt like a million years had passed. Hearing that she can go home after doing the questions, Maria took out her exercise book and zipped opened her pencil case, she widen her eyes.

"How did I forget to bring it? she thought as her hand rummaged in her pink pencil case. She searched in her bag if she dropped it in the bag but nothing could be found. It was then she realize that she forgot to bring the most important thing to class... a pencil.
