"Did I lose it? No did someone steal it?" Maria thought but quickly threw that thought away since it is impossible for someone to steal her pencil. Now, having no pencil she wouldn't be able to finish the questions and go home. Maria looked around to see if she can borrow a pencil from someone.
A black haired boy was sitting to her right, Maria noticed that the boy had many green coloured pencils scattered across his table and he had more pencils stuffed into his blue pencil case. She plucked the courage to ask him.
"Hey, can I borrow a pencil?" Maria asked. The boy continued scribbling in his book, unaware that someone is calling him. Maria tapped on his table to catch his attention. "Can I borrow your pencil?" The boy turned his head and stared at her saying nothing. "Please?" Maria added.
"No." the boy deadpanned and turned back to continue doing his work. "Come on, you have so many pencils and I have none." Maria said and the boy stopped scribbling for a moment and turned his head.
"I will lend it to you if you know my name." The boy challenged. Maria who didn't pay attention in class wished she had, especially when they where introducing themselves. "Hey, it is just a pencil, please can I borrow one?" she asked again to test her luck.
Maria frowned, seeing that the boy didn't respond and was reluctant to share, she turned behind her and saw another blonde hair boy sitting behind her. His head and arms was flat on the table, fast asleep. She couldn't ask him to borrow a pencil since he is asleep and didn't know what to do.
She heard a thud sound and turned to look at her right. The black haired boy dropped some of his green pencils on the ground and one specifically rolled underneath her table. The boy stood up to collect his fallen pencils and when he wasn't looking, Maria quickly grabbed the pencil which was underneath her desk. When the boy returned to his seat, he didn't notice one of his pencils was in the hands of someone else.
With that, Maria started copying the questions on the board and answered them quickly, just to get it done and to pass it up so that she can go home. Whilst writing, she heard someone tapped her table.
"Give me back my pencil." the black haired boy said.
"This is not your pencil, I found it on the floor." Maria said and continued scribbling in her book. The boy started to count his pencils one by one until he reached the number 29, realizing he is falling short of one pencil. "It is my pencil, I only have 30 green pencils and I am missing one, so that pencil must be mine."
"Well, it is mine now."
"No it is mine!"
"You dropped it, you lose it, I found it, so it is mine." Maria blurted.
"Hey! That's not fair! I never gave you my permission to borrow it"
"Can't you just let me borrow it? I will give it back after class."
"No, you haven't even answered the question I asked you."
"What question?"
"The name one, you don't even know my name." the black haired boy said. He asked the question knowing that she won't be able to answer it because she wasn't paying attention in class. Well, its not like he was paying attention either. He didn't care to know about others but this girl had the courage to steal his pencil and now he wants to know her name to pick on her in future.
However Maria was oblivious and ignored his question. On the other hand, other students pass up their work one by one and left the class, she scribbled the last sentence and passed her work to the teacher. Finally, she can go home and be away from all the people she doesn't care about.
"You forgot to write your name at the front of your book." Ms. Winter said while checking through her work. She squinted her eyes looking at the messy handwriting that looks like scribbles. "Oh" Maria said and took her book back and wrote her name on the front.
Maria stuffed everything in her bag and zipped it. When the black haired boy got up to hand his work to the teacher, she placed the green pencil that she borrowed back on the boy's table and walked out of the class.
Meanwhile, the black haired boy passed his work to the teacher and glanced at the other books placed on the teacher's table. He caught sight of her name written in messy fronts. "Is there anything you need, Prince Carl?" Ms. Winter said as she noticed the young boy was not moving. "No." Carl said. While he picked up his bag, he noticed his missing green pencil was placed on his desk and gritted his teeth. "Maria Florence, you will get it from me next time." he said to himself and walked off.
"These royal kids are hard to handle." Ms. Winter signed and went to look at Carl's work. "At least his handwriting is readable." she thought to herself and marked his work.
Outside of class, Maria was walking back to the east side of the Palace, going home to her castle and walked through the garden. As she approached the castle, it was already noon and the maids bowed and greeted her. "Welcome back Princess Maria." they said and Maria greeted them back. "Let me help you with your bag." Ms. Annie said and helped take the bag off Maria to hold it. Another maid went to call Lady Rose, Maria's mother. When her mother came into view, she hugged Maria. "How was your day sweety?" Lady Rose asked.
"It was boring"
"and?"
"tired"
"and?"
"sleepy"
"is that all?" her mother asked and Maria nod. "Oh don't worry, it will get more fun. Did you make any friends?" Her mother asked. On that question, Maria remembered the black haired boy who was selfish and didn't want to borrow his pencil. She opened her mouth but closed it as she didn't remember his name. Not wanting to talk about him or about the her pencil that she forgot to bring, she diverted the question. "What is for lunch mother?"
"Your favorite sandwiches with some tea." Her mother replied and held Maria's small hand, heading to the dining room. "Yay!" Maria exclaimed. Her boredom from class turned into excitement as she looked forward to eating her favorite food.
After lunch, she walked around the castle to find her cat. "Where are you Leo?" Maria's voice echoed through the room, it seems like her cat wants to play hide and seek she thought. Leo being the hider and Maria is seeking. Looking through all the rooms and walking through all the corridors, she was about to give up until she felt something soft around her leg.
Maria looked down and noticed that a cat, orange in colour was rubbing its face on her leg. "Leo!" Maria said, she crouched down petting her cat. "I missed you Leo, were you playing hide and seek with me?" Maria asked her cat in a cute voice.
"Meow" she heard and continued to rub the orange cat neck. "Aww, why are you so cute Leo?" Maria said and with that, the cat started to run away. "Hey! Where are you going Leo?!" Maria ran off to chase her cat and when she caught him in the garden, she continued playing with him and time quickly passed.
At the time of night, Maria walked into her bedroom and went to her study table. "That's where my pencil was..." she notice her red pencil was squished in between her diary. She pulled the chair to sit down and opened the page where her pencil was. Maria wrote on the new page:
"Today was the first day of class. I hated it. It was boring and tired and sleepy. Worst, I forgot to bring my pencil. There was a black haired boy, his name I don't remember, who is selfish and didn't want to borrow his pencils when he had so many. I borrowed it anyways." she wrote, leaving out the fact that she embarrassed herself accidentally when she made a screeching sound with the chair. Maria ended the diary entry by drawing a pencil, colouring it green and went to bed.
