Chapter 8 - The battle of Port Trafalgar

The next morning, both leaders were ready with their plans and tactics and began the battle.

The sky was unexpectedly filled with dark clouds, threatening rain at any moment. The fog had set in on the port, where the high-ground artillery was positioned, and the troops were in defensive positions.

At the edges of the fog, enemy troops with cannons were almost ready for an incoming attack.

Meanwhile, on the attacking side, Commander Yuuka gave his final speech to his soldiers, emphasising the importance and cost of battle.

"I am sure you have all heard my plan and are ready for the battle. But before we begin, remember this: You are fighting for a cause greater than yourselves. If you fall today, you will never see your family again or have a beautiful future.

But remember, you will never be forgotten. Your loyalty and courage will be remembered forever. I will stand and fight alongside you as your leader. I will lead you into this battle with the hope of victory. Are you ready to win back your new land?!"

"YES, SIR!"

"You know who will win this war? It's us!!"

"YES, SIR!"

"Then go to your positions and crush the enemy."

His determined and confident words echoed throughout the naval fleet, boosting the soldiers' morale as their leader prepared to guide them into battle.

All forces were dispatched to their positions, and the ships advanced towards the port.

------

At Port Trafalgar, Lynx soldiers could only see smoke obscuring their vision. Despite this, the port's soldiers were ready for an attack, having prepared defences along the port for an easy aim at the enemy.

"Enemy ship! Ready the cannons." The captain wearing the one star flag on his shoulder, dressed in green- brown uniform watched the enemy ships from his binoculars.

Two ships emerged from the fog, flying white flags with no troops visible.

"My soldiers, don't let your guard down," warned a commanding officer. Everyone remained alert, anticipating an attack." The captain warned his guards sitting close to him in the battle ships unanchored at the port.

"The ship has no weapons or troops. Let's use this to our advantage." The ship captain shouted his advice aloud and readied his men with their oars.

"Don't approach it; it could be a trap." The captain standing the middle looked at the ships path, it wasn't approaching this, it was sailing towards the edge of the port.

The ships reached the port, damaging the wooden platform but causing no immediate harm.

"What was the purpose of this?"

Suddenly, with a loud bang, one of the ships exploded, setting the other ship and the nearby platform on fire.

"THE PORT IS ON FIRE! QUICKLY, PUT IT OUT!"

Then chaos took the world by a surprise.

"Use the water from the sea."

"Leave the artillery and put out the fire!"

Panic spread throughout the port. It was now completely vulnerable—the perfect moment to strike.

-------

The Asphodel crew observed the panic from their positions. The winds supported their observation of the port. Clearing out the fog near the edge of the port

Yuuka, standing on a ship alongside Levi, watched the situation through his spyglass.

"It seems promising. This is the time to go for the kill."

As planned, Asphodel moved to the next phase: capturing the port.

"Captain Levi, you are in charge of the cannon assist."

"Yes, Sir."

Meanwhile, wearing his favourite beret, Vincent Rose, the lead office operator, observed the situation.

"The fire is spreading across the port. Those oil barrels are working." Flames fueled by oil could not be extinguished with water alone.

"SIR! Estimated five fully armed ships emerging from the fog."

Despite the unexpected presence of offensive ships at the port, the elite Asphodel navy was undeterred.

"My soldiers, fire on the ships," ordered Vincent. Meanwhile, Levi directed the attack.

"Move the ships closer. Ignore the enemy ships; we need to attack the enemy ourselves now."

The ships moved closer to the port.

"Fire artillery on three. One, two, three, FIRE!"

They sent a volley of cannon fire, targeting the artillery. The attack forced the enemy to push back or abandon their cannons.

"Change direction. We need to support the other ships."

After completing his task, Levi turned his focus to the other side.

"I see they are already done," observed Vincent. Without assistance, he had already sunk three ships. His unmatched speed soon led to the destruction of the remaining ships.

The death toll on Lynx's side was colossal.

The port was filled with the dead bodies of Lynx soldiers. As the wind blew, it extinguished most of the fire, but smoke remained.

Yuuka saw the best opportunity and made a decision.

"The remaining troops are retreating. We shall land at the port in three hours."

"But sir, the port is still burning, and flames inside the smoke are rising red."

"There will be rain in two hours, so we can wait until then. Until then, do not let your guard down."

"Yes, sir."

"Commander Yuuka, approaching troops cannot be estimated due to the visual problems at the port."

"Tell everyone to take defensive positions. They cannot get near the port because of the fire."

"Yes, sir."

Vincent relayed the orders and adopted an aggressive approach, as per the commander.

Yuuka's prediction of the enemy's plan.

"Captain Levi, Commander Yuuka is calling you."

Vincent delivered the message, and Levi rushed to Yuuka's quarters.

"Sir, did you call me?"

"Yes, I want to explain the new plan."

"Yes, sir. I shall listen."

"Sit down."

Levi sat down, his body still sweating despite the wind outside.

"Now listen, I have an idea about their plan."

"Sir, what is their plan?"

"They have set up camp on the outskirts of the port, haven't they?"

"Yes, sir. They have. The navigation team confirmed it. How did you know?"

Yuuka continued without answering.

"They plan to wait until it rains to extinguish the fire, then launch a counterattack."

"..."

"So, fire on them right now. Push them back. Don't let them advance. We need to freeze them in their position."

"Yes, sir."

Captain Levi left the room with the orders in mind, determined not to let the enemy advance from their backed-up position.
