Xiomara and Amanda become friends fast. It's like they have known each other for years. And Mayah feels a little jealous. She thought Amanda would be closer to her that anyone else.
Amanda and Xiomara sit eating lunch at their own table. And they joke and laugh. Then from across the hall Ashton stares at them. Ashton is seated with other boys who look equally ripped and rough. But he is the only one looking at them.
"You notice rough boy looking at you?" Xiomara asks. And Amanda looks to find Ashton looking at their direction. "How do you know it's me? Maybe he's looking at you." Amanda says. "As if... you know you are the cutest girl in school. Even the seniors are looking at you." Xiomara says. And Ananda looks to see half the school stealing glances at her. She is not used to this kind of attention. "You know soon the cool kids will come and steal you. And I will remain here alone. Just as I was some days before you came." Xiomara says.
"Why don't we make a bet? I will remain here with you for the whole term." Amanda says. "Why?" Xiomara asks. "Because you are the first friend I made in High School. And I've not had friends since I don't know when." Amanda says. "You're cute. You know that?" Xiomara says smiling. "Yeah... half the school is staring at me. I know." Amanda says and they both laugh.
As they laugh, Ashton stands from his chair and starts walking towards them. Amanda's heart beats fast. Last time she talked to Ashton she had butterflies in her stomach. She does not know what she will say to him. She does not know what she feels for him. She does not know why she gets chills from Ashton. She hopes it's not a crush. She has never crushed before. This will be her first time.
Ashton comes and sits where they sit. And Xiomara gets anxious. As Amanda gets butterflies in her stomach. "Hey..." Ashton says to Xiomara. And Xiomara fumbles not even knowing what she is saying. He then turns to Amanda and looks deep into her eyes. "Your friend is cute, but I'm here for you." He says. "Here for me? Am I your object? I don't even know you." Amanda says. "We met at the gas station. I know you remember me. Can't forget such a cute face like mine." Ashton says. And Amanda smiles. Why does he make her smile so easily? He seems to like it when she smiles. "You really think you're cute." Amanda says. "No. I know I'm cute. And cute people should be together. Like me and you." Ashton says.
Amanda smiles. "You have to stop making me smile." Amanda says. And she finds herself blushing. "Only if you promise to be my girlfriend." Ashton says. Xiomara can feel the hearts floating around them. She can tell that they like each other. And she stares as if she is watching a movie in 3D. "You will have to give me time to think about that." Ananda says. "All the time in the World. Just tell me when you feel like kissing this cute face." Ashton says. And he leaves. Amanda is left smiling.
"Oh my God! You two look cute!" Xiomara says as she giggles and cheers. "No... don't do that. He'll think I like him." Amanda says. "But you fo like him." Xiomara says. "Yeah. But he doesn't have to know yet." Amanda says. And they both giggle cutely. Mayah stares from another table and she does not seem to be happy. She knows that Amanda knows she likes Ashton.
