[Author's POV]
A maid walked down the palace hall and stopped in front of a door. She knocked gently, before going inside but got no answer. She closed the door again and stood with her back to it.
"I have done as you commanded, Your Highness."
At the other end of the room, a young man in royal attire was standing by the window and looking down. He looked at the palace's main courtyard, where the palace's horse-drawn carriage was parked. Not long after, two teenage figures joined hands and entered the carriage with happy faces, one of them carrying a basket of bread. The young man then pulled the window curtain and closed it tightly. He then turned around. "You may go."
"Yes, Your Highness."
After the maid left, the man sat down on a chair and pulled out a desk drawer. Inside was a hair clip. He took the pearl white hairpin and looked at it for a long time. He had found this hairpin when he was tracing the scene of an attack and found it in the grass.
