Nara stealthily crawled around the house. She sneaked around with an agenda in mind and faithfully avoided all the other servants, especially Sylvia. She ended up in the small storage room where they store cleaning materials.
She looked around. There were brooms and mops, baskets, bottles, and glass jars with labels on them. Nara realized that she couldn't understand the words and frowned.
Also, her limbs were still weak. Her legs still couldn't support her body so the only thing she could do is crawl. Hence, she won't be able to carry these bottles and jars anywhere even if she knows what's inside.
'Now, what?' Nara thought as she continued to wander around. Suddenly, she caught something smelly and followed the scent. When she found the source of the smell, her eyes flashed in realization and a smile blossomed on her face. Her eyes wandered and found the things that she need for her plan to work. She couldn't help but giggle as she thought about Sylvia's reaction.
'Hehehe, you'll regret treating me badly and backstabbing my family, Sylvia! You might not know, but this young miss holds grudges.' she thought as her smile turned mischievous.
Sylvia has been irritated for the past hour. She just looked away for a few moments to get its food as lunch was nearing, but then when turned back, the little brat was gone. She had already searched everywhere but the brat was nowhere to be found.
"Did you find her?" Sylvia asked the other servants with a dark face. She already asked them to help her look for the young miss as she can't look for that brat herself.
"No. I still haven't found the young miss. She's not in her brothers' room or the nursery either!" one of the young servants said, her face looking pale.
No one expected the young miss to disappear under the care of their chief maid. Afraid of the raging wrath of the Shen family, all the servants in the manor were soon mobilized. They almost turned the whole house upside down just to find their little miss.
"I found her! The little miss is in the storage room!" one of the servants said, but then a scream sounded from the room. "Ah! Young Miss, no!"
Sylvia and the other maids rushed to the room when they heard that. What greeted their sight made them all pale and Sylvia almost had a heart attack.
"How on earth did she get there?!"
Nara was sitting on the beam high above the ground. She has a wide smile on her face and laughed when the servants entered the room. Her doe eyes were squinted, making her look adorable. This adorable sight would make anyone sigh if not for the dangerous situation that she's in.
"Quick! Get one of the guards and tell them to get a high ladder!" Sylvia started to throw orders before looking back on the little bun sitting at the beam, clapping her hands and laughing at the chaos below her.
She secretly gritted her teeth as her eyes glinted dangerously. 'All you give me is more problems! Just wait 'til this is over and I'll deal with you myself!'
After one of the servants ran to get a guard, Nara stopped clapping and leaned forward. It looked like one wrong move and she would fall. Seeing this made everyone terrified and all of them took a step forward.
"Ahh! Young Miss be careful!"
"Where are the guards? Where's the ladder? Tell them to hurry up!"
"You! Go get some mattress and lay it down beneath the young miss in case she accidentally fell! Quickly!"
Nara watched them as they ran around disorderly and even saw Sylvia's pale face as she barked orders. She sneaked a little smile at the sight. 'That's right. At least you're still aware of what would happen to you if I got hurt under your watch.'
The servants left one by one after getting their orders until the only people left are Sylvia and one more maid. It was the young servant that was talking to Sylvia earlier.
Nara remembered this young girl in her budding teens. Lumi took her in a few months back and said she met her in an accident when she was traveling. She asked Ozul if the girl could work with them and the man immediately agreed.
The young girl was deeply grateful and did her best to serve the family. Nara liked her very much, but Sylvia was pretty mean to her.
It's a little obvious that she would put this girl in charge of the heavy work and difficult chores that most servants didn't want to do. But regardless of the hard work Sylvia puts on her plate, this young girl would still get them done.
Anyway, whether Sylvia like this young girl or not isn't what's important right now. What her plan need is for Sylvia to be left alone.
Nara immediately straightened up her thoughts as she watched the two getting antsy waiting for help. Sylvia had this annoyed expression while the young girl looked anxious and worried. Nara thought that it was the right time and tried to get their attention.
Sylvia and the young girl heard a giggle and they turned to look at the little bun sitting in a precarious position. The sight made their hearts drop and when they saw her wave her arms as she tilt towards the edge, the two of them couldn't help but scream in fright.
"Ysa! You go immediately and see where the guards are right now! Also, call the others to hurry up with the mattresses!" Sylvia said as she kept her eyes on the baby sitting on the beam.
"Y-Yes, chief maid!" Ysa, the young girl, was about to step forward and catch the young miss if ever she falls but Sylvia pushed her away and gave an order. Although she badly wants to save the young miss herself, she can't go up the beam without a tall ladder. Even she wonders how the young miss was able to climb so high up.
After Ysa left the room, Sylvia straightened up and glared at Nara sitting on the beam. "You little rat! Look at the fuss you're making. You're no better than a wild beast! How unruly! Like mother, like daughter, all you bring is chaos!" Sylvia spat as she watched the little bun sternly.
The baby seemed like she didn't hear anything that she said and just laughed and clapped her hands as if she found Sylvia's anger funny. This made the servant's blood boil as she grit her teeth, her eyes turning bloodshot.
"The only reason I'm being worried right now is that Master Ozul will scold me if you got hurt under my care! But if I told him that this was an accident, if I told him that we did all we could to save you, but we were too late, maybe... maybe there's a chance that Master Ozul will let me go."
Sylvia's eyes started to flash and a cynical look formed on her face, her face flushing, "Master Ozul is very kind to me. He will surely forgive me. He's such a noble person, surely if I told him that it was an accident... then I won't be punished!" she said and laughed, her eyes sparkling. She reached out to clutch her hair as she continued spouting various delusions with a flushed face and a twisted smile.
"Yes, yes, that's right. This little rat died because she was too unruly and there was nothing we could do about it. Hahahahaha! That's brilliant! Then after this, I'll show Master Ozul what kind of witch he married and then he will be mine!"
Sylvia's laughs echoed around the room and she turned back to look at Nara, but her laughs got caught in her throat as she saw the little miss.
The young miss of the Shen family had stopped laughing. Her eyes were no longer brilliant and there was a flash of coldness in them as she looked down at Sylvia from her position. In her little face, there was no big smile that she would always wear. Instead, her lips were slightly curved down as if giving a sneer of disdain.
When she saw this, Sylvia didn't know what came to her but a violent chill crawled up her spine. That look was very familiar to her. It was almost identical to the one that her mistress would often wear when she encounter something unpleasant. This expression would always cause the recipient to tremble in his place, unable to do or say anything.
But it was not the source of uneasiness that Sylvia is currently feeling. It was the fact that it was unnatural for a baby only a year old to be making that face. It seemed like she understood all the things that she said earlier and was giving her a disgusted look as if looking down on a vile creature.
A baby, no matter how talented they are , it would be impossible to understand her. It would be possible to them if they recognized the words others said. However, babies would not completely understand its meaning. But with the way Nara reacted, Sylvia had a terrifying thought.
This brat is possessed!
So that's the reason why she would always have a hard time trying to find her when she hides. The same reason why she always fusses whenever she tries to get close to her in front of Master Ozul but stays quiet when they're alone. It's also why she seems so smart despite her age.
She doesn't act like a normal baby because she's not a baby anymore!
And just now, she had heard and understood everything she said. Then she might find a way to tell what she said to Master Ozul. If that happens, her Master Ozul will kick her out!
A ruthless glint flashed in Sylvia's eyes as she looked up to the brat who could ruin her life at any moment.
The previous expression was now nowhere to be seen and she started giggling again, making a cold chill run down her body. The laugh which only irritated her seem to sound more ominous.
"I must kill this demon if I want to live!"
She had just taken a step forward when the giggling stopped and the little bun suddenly lost her balance, half of its body tipping to the edge. This sight made Sylvia stop in her tracks as a maniacal smile appeared on her face, waiting for the demon's demise. Her crazed eyes stared at the 'possessed' baby waving her arms trying to grasp something to stabilize itself.
She stopped her movements and just watched coldly, inwardly feeling smug. "No matter if you're an intelligent devil who possessed this brat, you chose such a weak body that anyone can kill with a flick of their finger. Why should I save you if you're trying to ruin my years of hard work to get close to my love?"
Nara saw at the corner of her eyes that Sylvia didn't move further from her spot, watching everything with cold and ruthless eyes. The sight made her secretly smile. 'What a predictable woman.' she thought and scoffed inwardly before continuing her act.
Sylvia's face brightened as she saw how the demon failed at steadying itself and began to tilt. She saw how it grasped a loose rope in a last attempt to save itself before it plunged down.
The distance between the beam and the ground is about 12 feet. While it's not as dangerous for adults to fall at this height which would only result in them having some scratches and bruises, it can be fatal to a one year old baby such as Nara to fall from a place that high.
That's why Sylvia stood in her place while she watch in excitement as the demon fell. In its hand, the rope that she managed to pull at the last moment. She looked on with anticipation to see it fall and have its body splattered on the ground.
Sylvia didn't realize how vicious her thoughts were. She was too engrossed in looking forward to the demon's death that she didn't hear the footsteps outside the room or the door of the storage room opening.
However, there was a curtain that was no longer used right below the demon which she didn't notice at first, but it made the demon's fall break as it swerved to the side. Sylvia could see the figure get tangled up in the curtain before it dropped on a pile of cloth bags where they stored dirty rags.
She was about to move forward to see what happened when a clanging of metal sounded above her and something cold rained down on her. Then it was followed by a nasty stench that assaulted her nose. She stood paralyzed in her place, eyes wide in surprise as it followed the bucket that was tied to the rope that the brat was holding earlier and tried to process what happened.
A gurgle suddenly came from the pile before a little head popped up in the midst of the tangled cloth. It first looked around in confusion before it sneezed due to the dust that collected above the cloth bag. It then saw the drenched servant standing dumbly a few meters from her. The little bun let out an adorable squeal and laugh as it slaps its hands against the bundle of cloth.
The woman was surprised at the events. Why didn't she notice the curtain beforehand? If only she saw it first and removed it, the demon wouldn't have landed safely. And where did this bucket come from? What is this smell? Everything was too much of a coincidence. So much so that it didn't feel normal, like someone was orchestrating the whole thing.
She was shaken out of her thoughts when she heard the fun-filled squeal and laugh. When she saw that little face filled with happiness as if gloating, she realized that everything must've been planned by the demon.
Rage bubbled in her as her eyes turned bloodshot. "You-you devil! You'll pay for this! I'll kill you!" she screamed as she charged towards the laughing baby. The baby just laughed again as if taunting her, making her bristle in anger.
Her hands were about to grab the little demon when she felt a force to her side and she was pushed out of the way. Sylvia rolled towards the brooms and mops. As she stumbled, they all fell on her, some even smacking her head, so she raised her arms to protect herself.
Sylvia looked up to see an angry teen huffing with red eyes. There are tears at the corner of her eyes as she screamed for the first time after being hired in the household. "How dare you raise a hand on young miss?! That's mistress' daughter and a baby! How could you even call her a devil and say that you'll kill her?! You're the devil! You're a monster!"
The teenager was Ysa, who she had ordered to go out earlier. Upon seeing a servant with a much lower status than her scream and reprimand her, the flaming rage in her heart burst out in an inferno as her face flushed red.
"How dare a trafficked slave like you raise your voice at me?! Is that how you treat your superior?!"
"You have the gall to ask me that when you're about to hurt the young miss? Not only did you just watch her fall from the beam, but you were about to assault a defenseless baby! Who wouldn't go and stop you?!"
Her retort elicited a laugh from Sylvia. The sound was filled with ridicule as she glared at her. "Defenseless baby? That's not a human baby anymore, you dumb wench! It's possessed by a demon and is planning to kill me! I wanted to protect myself so I did what I did and I'm not going to stop until the devil is dead!"
Sylvia turned her eyes on the 'possessed' baby. It was just looking on with a newfound interest as she switched looking between them as they talk.
Sylvia suddenly stood up and pushed Ysa aside with a strength that shouldn't have belonged to a woman, surprising the teen as well as Nara.
The chief maid marched towards Nara as she watched her figure loomed over her tiny one. Sylvia raised her hand with a ruthless expression before swinging it down.
