I just sat there, gently rubbing his back as he wallowed in his own sadness.
But then, unnaturally, he turned happy again, in under a second.
"Just keep in mind, you might only be able to forgive me right now because my subconsciousness is projecting on you. I want to be happy so badly, so my subconsciousness has manifested this avatar as being mostly happy."
"I know, I'll be able to think more clearly about it once we get back to the real world."
"So, do you have any more questions for me?"
"First, how did you jump out the window just now, didn't the doctor say that you would be paralyzed from the neck down for the rest of your life?"
"I was able to ignite my seed and then proceeded to the partial stage last night."
"..."
"Wow, all three of us did."
"I know, I was surprised too when I saw that you guys had achieved partial."
"But, how couldn't we notice yours?"
"My seed is, uhm, different from others."
"I know that, but you actually never told us what seed you had before you killed us."
"I... I-I had the Devil's Seed."
"..."
"Well... that explains a lot."
Again, I had only seen his memories, I was never able to find out what he thought during those times, so I could only base it off other people's reactions and his movements.
I spent some time thinking for a little bit, before a disturbing questions came to my mind.
"Which race was the Devil the progenitor of? I mean, I only saw you in your human form, even when we were fighting."
"Humanity."
He let this sink in for a second.
"It's ironic isn't it? Humans inherently discriminate against the other races, and they call the Devil evil, but they don't know that, whilst all the other races evolved from their progenitor, becoming better physically through evolution, humans look exactly the same as their progenitor, and they are so proud of themselves that they forget and call their own progenitor evil!"
This was mind blowing.
Being a human first and foremost myself, I couldn't help but want to reject this idea.
I just didn't want to accept this fact.
But, the more I looked at our history, and how evil we actually were under every layer of our facades, the more I grew to realize, that this was a very probable possibility, no, it was a definite fact!
"But, you have to remember that the Devil isn't inherently evil, humans only paint him that way for convenience. The Devil is a free form spirit, it accepts both good and evil under its wing, and doesn't differentiate."
It took me a while to absorb all of these facts that completely turned my world view upside down.
...
"Anymore questions?"
"Yes, what's your and your daughter's name?"
"Ah, my original name is William, and my daughter's is Belladonna, Bella for short."
"No offense, but that's a pretty weird name."
"Oh, yeah... it was the name left on the card that my Ex left on Bella when she was a baby and dropped her off on my doorstep. It's a type of extremely poisonous plant back on my world."
"Oh..."
"Yeah, but that doesn't change my love for her at all, my little angel."
Seeing him stare dreamily into the water as one of his memories with Bella passed by, I couldn't help but be a little jealous.
"She's your everything, isn't she?"
"I would do anything for her, and that includes committing suicide so that she doesn't have to suffer."
"And both me and Cor would never let you do that."
"I know, so this time, I won't do any of the tasks from the start, so, even if she dies, she can come here and learn that her father was a good man..."
He stared into the water again, so I looked down too.
"Oh, so that's what happened, dad was actually able to find you in all that rubble."
"Yeah, even though he saved me, and then adopted me immediately afterwards, I still treated him horribly in the past."
I watched as Cal, no, William's early life in this world flashed through the water, and we both looked at the memories with warm expressions on our faces.
Then, we got to the part where he had "politely" railed me.
As I was about to open my mouth and make an excuse for all my moaning in this scene, he said,
"Nu u uh, you can't say anything other than you actually enjoyed it, no excuses."
All the anxiety left me, and I just replied with an, "I know...", my voice incredibly soft as I blushed.
"And, because you enjoyed it so much, the system actually only gave my the bare bones reward for completing that task."
"What can I say? You yourself know I've been in love with you for the longest time."
"I know..." Was all he replied, the playful mood instantly dissipating.
You see, I wasn't afraid to proclaim my love for my brother, as, after all, he was only an adopted one.
But, of course, I only confessed because I knew that he already knew, and that he would never tell another living soul.
And I was fine with his silence, this meant that I still had a chance at least, so I would wait.
Of course, I also had to deal with my flaming hatred once we got out of this space.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Yeah, shoot."
"Does my blood taste good?"
I licked my lips, remembering the taste of his blood, thinking about it for a while.
"It's pretty close, but your blood was definitely the best that I've ever tasted."
"I see, that's good to know, then you can always take my blood if you need it."
"Are you sure? You'd basically become my living, moving lunchbox."
"Yes, after all, I think it'll be my first step towards redemption, albeit, a small one."
"I'm sure you'll finally be happy at the end of that road."
"And I hope that you will be by my side when I get there."
Saying that, we touched our foreheads to each other, and left the space.
...
Back in the room, I found myself lying on the bed, positioned next to Cal.
Blood was splattered all over the bedsheets, but I could see that his wounds were already healed.
Seeing his passed out, sleeping face, that was so beautiful in the moonlight, I couldn't help but reach my hand out and move the wet hair that was plastered on his face.
Spending the rest of my waking time just staring at his countenance, I fell asleep to the soothing image of his pale, crying face.
