His green eyes were sparkling under the night sky. Luke helped Jackie get up. She flinched. Her knee was bleeding slightly. "We are not following you." Luke said. "We live here." Alaric stared at them. "What are you doing here?" Jackie asked. He tilted her head to her and smirked, "Dear Jackie jelly. It's not your damn business." Alaric was that bully who everyone had in their school growing up. The one who always gets on their nerves, the one who never left them alone. He was rich, yes. But he wasn't dumb. He was the smartest kid in school, always had a winning streak in academics and sports. Because of this, the teacher never believed that he could bully anyone.
"Well then, we'll get going." Luke said, holding Jackie's shoulders and guiding her away from him. "Hold up." Alaric said, turning around. "Jackie jelly, I saw you at the exams today. Hope you got a good look at the academy. I'm not so sure you'll get to see it again." With that, he walked away towards the second row of the houses on the other side of the street. "Asshole." Jackie muttered. "Don't mind him, who knows maybe he won't be able to get in." Luke said.
"His mother is on the board of directors, they basically provided the fund for the new swimming pool." nepotism always wins. "See you tomorrow then." She waved him off and went inside, still wondering why Alaric was here.
She changed her clothes and sat on the bed, putting her phone on the charger. She opened her window to let the cool breeze chill her room, and stood there smelling autumn. Her eyes landed caught movement in the second house opposite her. The figure started walking. When he came under the streetlight, she recognized the beanie. Oh my god, she thought, quickly sitting on the floor. Alaric was at Nova's house. Was he dating her? Or buying drugs? It could be the latter. Alaric had a specific type when it comes to girls. She saw the four and five girls he dated at school. They always belonged to the high class. Old money rich-girls.
"Luke needs to know this." She bounced to her bed and texted Luke what she had witnessed. A few seconds later, an ice cube emoji popped. He also thinks it's drugs. Nova and her twin brother Nate were only popular because of their different kind of drugs, which they created themselves. Both were specialists in nature magic, it was their family magic. Their new drug, a transparent jelly, shaped like an ice cube, was getting famous. She never had a dose, considering how expensive it was. It was only reserved for the rich ones. Or some middle class, who had saved up enough to buy it. Suddenly, her phone rang. It was Luke.
"Jackie, i just had a perfect idea." He was squealing.
"What is it?" she got comfortable on her bed. Ready to listen.
"What if we can prove that Alaric bought drugs? What if word got out to the citadel? What if Alaric and a bunch of rich kids get their admission revoked? Do you see where I'm going with this?" Jackie knew, and she finished his sentence, "that would leave me with a bigger probability to get admission." She had a huge smile. "But what if he found out it was me? Luke, they could ruin my life. Alaric is the heir to his father's company. On top of that, his grandfather is on Edmund's council. This would be a much bigger issue. Not to mention my mother works for his father's hospital."
"I know." Luke suddenly sounded serious. "I'll make sure your name doesn't come up. What do you say? Ready for another adventure?"
Jackie thought about the idea for a while. If the citadel got word that it was her and Luke who brought down the drug twins, the slayers might even give her a chance to prove herself. Her dreams were coming true in her head. She saw herself in the slayers red leather jacket, other slayers cheering for her. She had just brought down an evil necromancer. "Hello Jackie, are you there?" Luke was still on call.
"Luke. let's do it." Her heart has never beaten so wildly before. It was like she had consumed fireworks and they were popping inside her. Everything felt exhilarating.
