Suddenly, the woodpecker made a high pitched tweet and disappeared. That caused them to both look over to where it originally was, and Fiona then forgot what they were talking about.
"I can't be drunk already, surely".
"How many have you had, did you get here early or something?" Penelope laughed.
"This is my third double" Fiona admitted.
"Jesus Fi it's twelve in the afternoon slow down" She voiced in geniune concern.
"I'm sorry it's just, I need to drink to stop thinking about how Dan railed me last night".
"Ok I can't listen to you talk about your dirty sex life anymore I'm getting another drink".
"Ok can I ge...."
"No" Penelope walked away into the pub without allowing Fiona to finish her sentence.
She asked the bar tender for just a simple apple juice, and while she perched on the barstool, she felt her ears ringing slightly. She decided to ignore it for now, but it kept happening. 'Where has the bloody bartender gone?' Penelope thought to herself, then the ringing happened again. She decided to rub her ears, it stopped, and started ringing again... To distract herself, she picked up a card coaster and started fiddling with it. Then the ringing stopped. 'Thank god'. But all of a sudden, she felt the need to turn around, so she did.
Penelope looked out the window briefly, but as soon as her eyes left the window, they fell on the handsome man sitting with his legs crossed over and with a beer in hand, his arm resting on the arm of the chair.
"Arthur?!' Penelope said too loudly, causing the few customers in the bar to look at her.
She was embarassed, but Arthur smiled wide at her.
"Your drink ma'am", the bartender finally appearing, "three fifty please".
She was so shocked by Arthur's sudden appearence she threw the money on the bar and ran out the back door to the empty pub garden with her drink spilling all over her hand, she didn't notice this however. Penelope found a large chestnut tree and hid behind it.
"Penelope I can see you" Arthur suddenly spoke from behind her.
She was panicing, and also slightly embarassed.
"No you can't".
Arthur laughed at her response, he was beginning to find the beautiful stranger adorable.
He slowly and silently walked round the tree till he was stood in front of Penelope, she had her head to the tree so didn't realise he was there.
"Hey", Arthur's voice made Penelope jump.
"Christ" She exclaimed, dropping her drink.
"Oh so you made me fall over a load of times now you made me drop my drink, great" she scowled at him.
Arthur smiled and bit his lip, not realising it made Penelope very.... excited.
"I'm sorry, look I don't mean to keep making you, well let's face it, clumsy" he scratched his neck nervously.
Penelope failed at making him feel bad, momemtarily smirking at him, before her smile dropped again. Arthur noticed this, and gingerly took at step forward. Because Penelope's back was still against the tree, she had no choice but to just press herself against it harder, she didn't feel like running from him.
"I'm uh, you uh..." Arthur stuttered nervously.
"Now you are the one who's clumsy" Penelope looks at him with her bright blue eyes.
Arthur's eyes suddenly fixed on Penelope's, he blinked quickly before resuming what he was saying with a smile.
"I'm happy to *cough* see you again, but I doubt you are happy to see me" he was almost whispering.
Penelope's face relaxed, 'I'm happy to see you again' she repeated in her head. But before she could say anything, Arthur clicked his fingers in front of Penelope's face, he was now closely in front of her, she had spaced out.
"I... I don't know you" Penelope looked down at her feet.
Arthur, not helping himself, shock and dispair filled his face as he saids shakily...
"You don't remember me?"
Penelope couldn't help feel sorry for him in this moment. She looked up at his face that looked like someone stole his dog, and she knew if anyone stole Hardy from her, she would look exactly like that. She look at him in his vibrant green eyes, and smiled gently.
"Of course I remember you, Arthur".
Arthur looked back at her with wide eyes. 'Arthur', he thought of her saying his name over and over in his head again, it made him a little too excited... Distracting himself, he spoke again.
"That's good because I remember you, Penelope" smiling at her as he said her name.
Penelope took a sharp breath in, 'Penelope', 'fuck my name has never sounded so sexy'. Without realising, she giggled at the thought. Her heart rate was raised, and so was Arthur's, they had synced together. They both stood still for a few seconds, before Penelope realised something...
"Oh my god I forgot I left my friend outside!" She was about to walk off when he took a step towards her.
"Please don't leave again, I want to talk to you" Arthur said, almost begging her.
Penelope couldn't help but smile at him, he seemed like a geniune nice man, even though she didn't know him very well. But she valued her friend, she had just left her outside, however...
"She is already drunk" she said bluntly.
"Wait she's drunk it's not even one in the afternoon" Arthur responded as blunt as she spoke.
"Don't I know!" Penelope replied, then then both suddenly started laughing lightly.
Arthur stopped and smiled at her as she continued laughing, her face was flushing. 'God she can't leave so soon again, I need to keep her with me as long as possible' he thought to himself, then he had an idea...
