Chapter 13 - The Hero

"Are you ok?!" Arthur quickly took hold of Penelope's hands and checked her wrists all over, "did he hurt you?"

Arthur scowled down at Dan, who was gingerly getting up from the floor, he didn't look Arthur in the eye once. Penelope pulled away from Arthur.

"I'm fine" she held her wrist, Dan had grabbed her that hard he left a mark.

Penelope was still scared, and Arthur could feel this, he want to take it all away from her, make her forget about Dan, but this shook her, so Arthur treaded carefully.

"I'm sorry" he whispered to her.

Penelope looked up at Arthur, she was short compared to him, only five foot four inches, and he was lot stronger, as demonstrated by how far he pushed Dan over. He was just shy of six foot she thought, and this all confirmed Penelope's suspicion she got upon the hilltop, he was strong. She had only just noticed, he was wearing a black short-sleeved polo shirt, and his muscles were strained from anger that he still had towards Dan. Penelope swollowed, and whispered up to him.

"Thank you", her eyes shined at Arthur.

Arthur face beamed brightly back at Penelope, then his attention turnt back to Dan, who was now mumbling to himself as he walked to the taxi, Fiona had passed out inside of it.

"I can't just leave Fiona in that condition, she's out cold" Penelope looked towards Fiona worriedly, who was laid down on the taxis back seat.

"She'll be fine" Arthur whispered back.

"Penelope look at me".

Penelope looked up at Arthur with a worried expression, Arthur held her gaze with reassuring eyes, then all of a sudden the taxi doors closed just as Dan got to the door.

He looked dumbstruck as the taxi drove away. The woodpecker was back on the bird feeder, turning Penelope's attention away from Arthur momentarily. He smiled at her, knowing the woodpecker fasinated her. He turnt around to look at it himself.

"That bloody woodpecker" Penelope mumbled.

Arthur suddenly turnt to look at Penelope, his eyebrows raised. 'What that can't be, she must...' He thought he'd might as well ask her instead.

"Don't you like woodpeckers?"

"No I love woodpeckers, but this one seems to be following me" She replied quietly.

'Love, she loves woodpeckers', Arthurs heart skipped a beat. 'I knew it', he smirked to himself. Penelope noticed him smirking, and shoved his arm, playfully this time.

"Now what's so funny?"

"Well I'd be lying if I said I didn't like it when you are annoyed" He smirked wider at her.

"And who said I was annoyed?" She replied in a high pitch as she crossed her arms, making Arthur chuckle.

"Oh I'm so sorry did I offend you?".

"Yes you did" Penelope pouted, her cheeks rosy again.

Before Arthur could respond, Penelope noticed the taxi left without Dan inside.

"Wait what, why's he still here?"

"Well I guess Fiona came to her senses and left without him", it was the only thing Arthur could think to say.

"Oh well THANK GOD" Penelope raised her voice in the end, making sure the stranded Dan could hear.

He didn't turn to look back at her. He had called a taxi when Penelope and Arthur were talking, and the taxi office being five minutes down the road, it arrived quickly. Dan hopped inside and it drove away swiftly, not daring to look out the window.

"Twat" Penelope blurted sudden, causing Arthur to snap his eyes on her in shock.

"Geez Penelope calm down" He said in a high register, causing Penelope to bite her lip, causing Arthur to get excited.

"Sorry" she smirks, embarassed of her outburst.

"No I like it" He responded confidently, his eyes almost seducing Penelope on the spot.

Penelope's mouth slightly opened as he looked at her, her heart thudding in her chest, she had to look away. Clearing her throat, she thanked Arthur again.

"Thank you Arthur, seriously, I could have been in the middle of no where with a creep by now if it wasn't for you" She looked at him longingly, sending shivers down Arthur's spine.

"Um *cough* yeah, no problem".

'Why has he gone shy, have I scared him away now? All because of the creep, great' Penelope thought over in her head, Arthur shuffled his feet and looked to the floor. All Penelope could think to do, is try to lighten the mood...

"You're my hero" She said adorably to Arthur, which made him look at her, his eyes burning into hers.

"No, you are mine" His gaze not leaving hers, he smirked cheekily.

Penelope's face was now red as a tomato, which made her look at her feet. Arthur nudged Penelope a few times.

"Stop it" Penelope giggled and shoved Arthur playfully.

"Well you have to repay me now" He saids flirtatiously.

"Oh do I now? How do you suppose I do that?" Penelope looked up at Arthur, her eyes slightly seductive to him now.

"You could buy me a drink".
