Chapter 2 - DEAD WHALE WEIRDNESS

"Roderick, this incident will end in this building. Two large whales with gold colored beads will surround the building and will flow waters of peace. If there are no signs, then the city of Vanhigh Wern will forever be ruled by the angry big whales. They will make humans as slaves, and will continue to torture them to death. Or they will bring water more terrible than yesterday."

Roderick looked for his grandfather's voice that echoed in the dark and uninhabited room. Let alone seeing his grandfather's form, just looking at his hands was difficult because there was not the slightest light coming in. He wanted to get up and crawl to find his grandfather's whereabouts, but his body was tightly bound by a rope that was supple like seaweed. But even though it was springy, Roderick had a very hard time letting it go.

"Grandpa, I beg you. Give me a good guide to solve this, I know you can help me. I beg you, I beg you." for a moment Roderick's soul was weak and powerless. His brave demeanor, his chivalrous spirit, and his shrewd mind seemed to vanish when confronted with his grandfather.

There was no better place of complaint for Roderick than to his grandfather. Because his grandfather knew everything, and his grandfather became the most important figure in the hidden city of Vanhigh Wern.

"Don't be so weak, Roderick. My blood has fused with your body and soul. You weren't meant to be such a crybaby. Rise up, show them that you can beat the angry big whales. Keep my blood stuck to your wrists. You must not be selfish or indifferent to your surroundings, because all of that will make my blood disappear from you. Rise up, Roderick. Rise up."

"Grandpa!!"

The darkness in a room was gone when Roderick shouted at his grandfather whose voice had been echoing in his ears for a long time. The ropes that were rubbery like seaweed were no longer felt in his body. Where is he now? Why his face grimaced when his smell was stung by the unpleasant smell of rottenness.

"They've become corpses. How many days have I been stranded among these rotting corpses? The last time I breathed was on top of a sturdy building when a big whale threw me with its tail." Roderick whispered in confusion.

At first, Roderick was lying weakly on top of the building. But after his vision blurred from exhaustion after fighting one of the whales, he regained his senses and now his surroundings looked three hundred and sixty degrees different from before.

"Why didn't Grandpa tell me more detailed instructions? I really need them right now. I don't know how to confirm what happened to those strange whales." he muttered.

"Grandpa said earlier that the whales were angry. But angry about what? Angry for what? I don't even know where the two big golden-eyed whales are. Everything happened so suddenly, that I was too shocked by this incident. I can't solve this problem, I'd better run away and leave the strange whales that may come again later." he continued.

But his last thought was digested again. He couldn't have run away because his grandfather had said that Roderik should not be selfish, and he should not run away from his city for a second. Because if that happened, the blood on his wrist would disappear. If his grandfather's blood is lost, then Roderick's soul will be clean from Theo Werner's bloodline which has an important role in the security of his city.

Even though Theo Werner had an important role in the city of Vanhigh Wern, they had always kept it a secret from many people. Long before Roderick's grandfather was born, Roderick's grandfather had also become a person who had advantages over people in general. But he asked his descendants to keep the strength that is within them, and not even tell it to others. And that has happened until now, where Roderick is required to maintain his strength without revealing it to people.

The question in Roderick's mind was that he was told not to tell who he was, who his grandfather was, and who his ancestors were. But in the dark room when Roderick hadn't woken up from his stupor, his grandfather said that he had to show them that he could defeat the huge whales that attacked his city. These 'them' were ordinary people in general, or was there another hidden 'them'?

"Ah well, I don't know who they are. The point is that now I can't run away from here, I have to be able to solve the city's problems and restore its peace." he continued. But his daydream was interrupted again by an unpleasant smell that peeked into his nostrils.

As far as the eye could see, he only saw rotten corpses that had been visited by flies. So that he could not linger there, he had to go to a safer and more comfortable place so he could think clearly. Not only did he see scattered corpses, he also saw several whales of not too large size that were stranded with their eyes open.

To be sure, he drew closer to the whale and examined it. "Why did this whale die?" his mind wondered.

Upon closer inspection, he could see several bullets stuck in his body. This again made his mind wonder, "Why can this whale die with just a few guns? Isn't that strange animal that comes to the city can only be killed by Theo Werner's arrows?! But now the evidence?! Really confusing." his hand tried to pull the small bullet from the whale's body.

"Even the bullets were meant for ordinary humans, did the city cops shoot him?"

It was very clear that the bullet he was holding now was a bullet for an ordinary human. And as far as Roderick knew, any strange animal that entered his city would only die with Theo Werner's arrows. This was proven when twenty-seven years ago. Where his grandfather, Askar Theo Werner killed a large turtle with his arrow. It was tried after hundreds of ways such as shooting with ordinary bullets, shooting with animal bullets, and shooting with silver bullets to no avail.

Haven't received an answer yet, the atmosphere there is noisy again. But not because of the big whales that flew, but dozens of people who came to bring the bodies that were still scattered.

"Ah, you! Why are you there? Survivors should be at the post, not sitting here." one of them pointed at Roderick with his words.

Roderick immediately got up and cleaned the whale blood that was on his hand by wiping it onto the shirt on the back. Then he answered casually, "I've only seen this whale. I wonder why these big whales can fly and destroy cities, and now suddenly he's dead. It's confusing isn't it?!" he said pretending to be an innocent human.

And suddenly the man pointed his gun, "Stay away from there, young man. The whale was shot dead by the police. Don't let his blood get you, because it will turn you into a new pope." he said.

Roderick frowned, it turned out that the person in front of him now was a policeman. "A-aah, yes, sir. I won't go near him anymore, and I'm leaving now." answered Roderick still pretending to be an innocent human. Even though he knew the blood of a strange, dead animal would react in a person's body if the blood really touched his skin. But Roderick wasn't worried about that because in reality it wouldn't work against him.

"All right, go to the post right now. And please wear this." the police said while giving him a mask to protect his sense of smell.

Roderick politely accepted it and walked away from them. There too he saw a large tank filled with hot water. This hot water will be used to flush some of the dead whales so their blood doesn't come into contact with human skin.

"Woaaahh, how devastated the city of Vanhigh Wern is. Looks like the whales attacked the tall buildings. Look, almost everything has been destroyed by it. Can't stand it, they might go to the next town." he grumbled.

"I can't go to the command post, I have to find a safe place to further investigate the oddities that are happening. Like this, a strange whale won't be able to die just from ordinary bullets. There must be something hidden here." he continued with the bullet still in his hand. When the police arrived, he immediately tucked it in his trouser pocket so he could investigate further what was really going on with the whale.
