What did he think she was? Sixteen? Who needs his permission to leave home. Now he could not even ground her in her room if she did not listen to him. They were over that phase, weren't they?
Her father said, "You are arguing with me. "
Kate scoffed, "You taught me to argue with you when you do something stupid."
"Stupid?"Mr Smith asked, angrily, "What did I even do?"
He was thinking about her well-being and she was calling him stupid. It was not him who was stupid but this entire generation who did not know what was good for them. They had this knack to imply pain to themselves.
Kate asked, "You should not have come here. I thought you made it clear many years ago that you wanted nothing to do with the Westburry family. Why did you come here?"
She could have asked him the same. She could ask him why he came here when he declared enmity with this family. Still, he was present here.
Mr Smith answered, "I am here for Crystal Westburry."
Kate retorted, "So am I."
