Chereads / THE CLEVER TEACHER / Chapter 45 - Departure

Chapter 45 - Departure

At a cemetery, all clustered a white casket to honour the dead. Mr. and Mrs. Cliff had the front position because the dead was no other person but their daughter, Cynthia. It was a thing of sorrow and heartbreak.

Lowering the casket into the grave after a preacher's blessing escalated a sudden wind that swept the floor of the cemetery and had their clothes swinging to it's direction. Daniella couldn't contain the heaviness in her heart, so she let it out through her eyes. Murphy embarcaded her to console her while Dave did same to Judith. All felt the departure of their love one.

However, arriving to the white house, the president convoy stopped at the entrance. Through the tinted glass of one of the vehicles, Murphy saw security men questioning two women at the gate. Vivian also stretched her neck to confirm the delay.

"Who are those women? What do they want?" She asked.

"There's only one way to find out." Murphy stepped out of the vehicle, likewise others. "Let them be!" He ordered from afar.

One of the women ran to Murphy and embraced him to everyone's surprise. Already others had drew closer, watching the impromptu drama. The woman caressed Murphy's cheeks tenderly. Her wet eyes never departed from his.

"Truly, it's you." she said.

"I am teacher Murphy, the presi..."

"No, that's not what I mean." she interrupted him. "I mean you're my child! I'm Ola. We abandoned you at a refugee camp years ago."

"What of your sister, Daniella?" Adaku, the other woman asked. The question triggered more stare among the orphans.

Already, Daniella had stepped forward. "Murphy is my brother?" she asked.

"You are Daniella! Oh, my daughter!." Adaku hugged her. "We're so sorry we left you both. Our camp was attacked, we were kidnapped and couldn't locate you again. Adaku and I married the same man who didn't survive." she explained.

With all the emotional outburst, Daniella and Murphy glanced at each other before reciprocating the love their mothers showed them.

"I've discovered this before now. I thank God I'm alive to witness it. Let proceed inside, mother." Murphy commanded.

All steated on a round table with the president having the extreme seat. Once again, like one big happy family they exchanged eye contact. Silence stretched in the room until Daniella taped the table loudly thereby drawing attention to herself. She stood up.

"We all have come a long way." she began. "I believe we've achieved teacher Nwachukwu's purpose. This is the end especially now we've lost Cynthia. Like what remain?" she bread her hand. "We've all found our parents, Murphy is controlling the affairs of the country as expected, the bad guys are behind bars and the city is safe." she paused to see others listening and looking at her. "All I'm saying is time for me particularly to depart from here to a far away country with my mother." she concluded.

Dave stood up too. "I agree with Ella. I shall be travelling to Europe with Judith. We shall tie the knot there and have our baby there." he glanced at his girl to see her smiling.

"Erika and I will also leave the country." Obi interfered, then glanced at Ada who also spoke up instantly. "I'm going nowhere. I'm with my family here in Kali."

Silence returned to the room, only then did Murphy exhaled and sat up. He glanced at his wife then his voice cleverly trailed in the sanctum. "I'm happy that we've come this far. Your decisions are well accepted. I just want to remind you all that I love you especially my mother. I'm very delighted to meet you."

"I'm more than happy, son." Ola replied from her seat.

All departed. Vivian walked into her husband private room. She could hear splash of water from the bathroom as she located a table, grabbed a paper and began to write. Just as her pen wiggled along with the movement of her hand, Murphy came out from the bathroom.

"What are you writing?" he asked her.

"A divorce later." She replied without a glance at him.

Murphy slowly walked to her, knelt down to the wife's amazement. Slowly, the pen fell from the tips of her fingers as she looked down at the man she fell in love with. His meek voice melted her heart.

"Far be it from me to lie with you in such a manner again. It is the dark side of my life that I have to fight. And I promise you, I'll do everything I can stop such act. I'll see a therapist or a spiritualist, name it. I'll do anything to change. Please, don't leave me." The poor teacher pleaded.

Vivian was pleased to hear those words from him and she was ready to help him fight his dark side. Therefore, she embraced him warmly.....
