My name is Alicia Heist Johns. I am the third child of the present king of the King of Ethiopia. I have two elder sisters and one younger brother. I am the only 'adoptive' child in my household.
My mother was a housemaid in the massive palace. My father the King, was in adoration with my mom's attractiveness. She had long, silky blonde hair with deep blue hazel eyes. I have inherited all of her qualities.
My mother was immediately kicked out of the palace by the Queen after comprehending my father and my mother's relationship. Shortly after, my mom discovered that she was expectant with me.
My mother raised me all by herself. I lived a lovely, quiet, and simple life outside of the palace and was comfortable. But shortly after, my world changed as my mother got very ill.
I was seven years old. My mother was bedridden. My mother's life was gradually but surely exhausting in front of me. That was when my father the King arrived.
My mother begged my father to accept me as his child. I still recall her remarks that day...
"Your majesty, Alicia is also your daughter." My mother said as tears rolled down her face. She was breathing as if she was hardly gaining any oxygen in her lungs. "As I don't have a lengthy period in this world, I want you to accept Alicia as your daughter. Please take care of her."
"Mother no... Please don't leave me" I recall saying goodbye to her and crying by her bedside.
As I witnessed my mother bearing her last breath, I supposed as if my whole world was shattered to pieces. I was doubtful at first, but soon I gave in, it was my mother's last wish and I couldn't just oblige to that. That day my father took me to the palace as his 'adoptive' daughter.
Arriving at the palace, I discovered that I have two elder sisters. Lucy was two years older than me and Lisa was one year older. I also had a younger brother Richard, who was two years younger than me.
My life in the palace wasn't painless. My sisters relished and had the delight of bullying me, my stepmother would do anything to make my life challenging and miserable and my father is insensible to me.
The only individuals who were right to me were my brother Richard and General Robert, my step-siblings' grandfather who was my stepmother's father.
Six years have perished by and living in the palace as the third princess wasn't effortless for me. The people didn't know much concerning me. I wasn't capable to attend balls and parties with my siblings. I was comprehended as 'The Forgotten Princess Of Ethiopia'.
But that transformed when my 15th birthday arrived. It was a tradition that a daughter of the royal household must be introduced to the public, hence a lavish ball was held in the palace. All the high-class families in Ethiopia are invited, for this reason, to search for appropriate suitors for the royal daughter. Even royalty from neighboring kingdoms would be requested to attend.
Grandpa Robert had quarreled with my father and stepmother to give me the royal tradition given to the daughters of the royal family, he said it was my birthright. Even though he wasn't my biological grandfather, he would love me and accept me as his own. And that was what I liked about him.
After some nagging and fighting, my father eventually agreed. Shortly after, the day of the ball arrived. I was dressed in a royal blue gown that fit in well with my long silky blonde hair and deep blue hazel eyes.
Glancing in the mirror, I was so much more diverse from my typical self. The typical me wore hand-me-downs of my sisters. They would give me out-of-date and folded clothes. I would never wear makeup and would usually secure my hair in a bun or a ponytail. I can't outshine my sisters in their beauty, I would constantly have to look normal compared to them.
But now, I looked so gorgeous. My hair was styled with many hair ornaments. I am wearing makeup and jewels. But then, I thought that I looked like a stranger and not myself.
'Knock knock' went the door.
The door opened and a maid bowed in front of me.
"Your Highness, all the guests have arrived. His Majesty, the King has called for you." The maid said.
"I understand. I will be there momentarily." I said to her.
I glanced at myself in the mirror once again and took a deep breath.
Then, as I raised my skirt I exited the room to go to the ball.
