"I totally forgot!!", Lucas said out loud as he headed to Audrey's place. He thought she was upset when he called several times and she didn't pick the call.
Oblivious to his errant thoughts, Audrey was spread wide on her carpet, enjoying her sleep, as she had spent the evening wondering why Lucas didnt show up.
Lucas didnt need an invitation to use the elevator, running to her door in record time. He tried the bell, silence from the other side of the door blatantly mocking him.
He started getting anxious, his mind drifting to the worst part of the situation as he had seen earlier that night.
When Audrey didnt reply the doorbell, he panicked and started knocking the door, cold sweat breaking on his forehead.
When Audrey still didnt react to the recurrent knocks on the door, Lucas remembered that he hadn't tried calling her after he came up the stairs.
Lucas phoned her, putting his other ear against the door, he soon heard her phone ringing and her groaning. Lucas's facial expression changed, a wide smile soon plastered on his face as she was awake.
" Huh!!", Audrey groaned as the continuous ringing of her phone disrupted her beauty sleep. Rubbing her eyes, she became even more alert after seeing it was Lucas calling.
"Hello!", she said, standing up and rearranging her clothes out of instinct. " Baby!!, oh thank God, I'm outside!", Lucas said, knocking, just to show her he wasn't joking.
"What?, oh my God, how long have you been there??", Audrey asked, wondering if he came while she was sleeping. Cutting the call, Audrey rearranged her pajamas, heading to the door.
Thinking that she was at fault for letting Lucas stay outside for that long, she snickered wondering how bad her sleeping habits could be sometimes.
She opened the door soon after, Lycas wrapping her in an overdue hug. " Hi!", Audrey called out, about to apologise for making him wait outside.
"Hey!", Lucas answered. " I didnt know you were outside!, I'm sorry for keeping you waiting!", Audrey said, rushing her words.
"What do you mean, I just got here?", Lucas asked wondering what she was talking about. " I mean the fact that I overslept and didnt even notice you knocking for the longest time. Your knuckles must be hurting!", Audrey said.
"I actually just came like ten minutes ago!", Lucas said, still wrapping Audrey in a hug. " Ohh, did the function take that aitchoo!", Audrey sneezed before she even finished her sentence.
Carrying her in a way where she could still be in his embrace, Lucas headed inside her apartment. He kicked the doors shut after entering, the locks automatically setting itself in place.
"It didnt take that long!", Lucas said before he went ahead to tell Audrey about the events of the night. He started from his arrival into the ball, the number of boring conversations he was forced into, and then, what turned out to be the main event of the night.
Not forgetting to add the fact that only was his childhood friend, Lucas continued the story, mentioning that that was what delayed him.
" I just had about three glasses of water and two glasses of champagne, and I didnt have food!", Lucas said, trying to hint Audrey that he was really hungry.
"I wonder if she's okay!", Audrey said, wondering if the lady was doing fine. "Come to think of it!, if you were about to take the drink and she grabbed it, doesn't that mean the poison was meant for you!", Audrey said putting the pieces together.
Lucas had been too tired to put the pieces together, however, when Audrey mentioned it, his facial expression darkened wondering if it was another assination attempt.
He quickly schooled his expression after he remembered that he was spending time with Audrey.
" Are you still hungry?", Audrey asked, Lucas giving her a positive answer. The two had dinner, Audrey thinking that they had brushed the matter under the rug, forgetting it. Lucas on the other hand was grateful and really happy for the time he was spending with Audrey, but the matter that he was being targeted bothered him.
The next day being a Sunday, where most of their couple Time would start, Audrey was the most nervous of the two. He had been considerate enough to sleep on her couch, respecting her boundaries.
However, the time of morning soon came and she only had one bathroom. Unlike the previous day where she was in the kitchen, doing the dishes while he freshened up, that morning she wasn't going to be preoccupied while he showered.
Well, that was what she thought, until Lucas opened the door to the bathroom, walking out fully clothed.
Like he had predicted, Audrey was going to fuss about their bathing arrangements, so he had gotten up, earlier than he should on a Sunday to take his bath.
His heart was moved again after seeing that there was a spare toothbrush, something that wasn't there the last time he visited.
"Ohh, you've had your bath!", Audrey said breathing a sigh of relief. " Yeah, I have already!!, get dressed, we're going out today!", Lucas said before he left the room.
Squealing and bouncing on her bed, Audrey rushed to her bathroom, vetting ready for the day. While Audrey was in the bath, taking a shower to prepare for her day, Lucas was having a conversation with his brother Martin.
"So you mean to tell me, you could have been the one in Emilyshoes if she handnt been impulsive last night!", Martin asked one more time. " Yes, exactly!", Lucas confirmed. "So, who do you think it is?!".
