Chapter 11 - Already A Year

The girls had relished the taste of the porridge which Audrey prepared, they had their late night talks which they were used to, talking about their summer breaks and catching up to the latest news in their respective lives, after they had their fill in their discussions, the gifts they got for each other was presented.

The girls didn't sleep early that night because they were so happy to see their room mates after two months. Although they were close, all the girls except Nelly harboured something which they wanted to tell each other, but, they were holding back because they didn't want to be judged.

Hyacinth was really shy to admit that she had given David her number, however after minutes of hesitation, she finally said it. "You guys" she called, the girls looked at her, excitement written all over their faces because they knew she was going to share something with them. "I I I might have given D Dav David my number!" She said scratching the back of her neck.

"So you do like him", Nelly said as she had predicted that sparks would fly between the two," has he asked you out yet?" Patricia said with a wide smile before Audrey gave her a slight bump to her head, "come on, they've barely met" Audrey said before she paused,"or really, do you like him?", Audrey asked

"Well…" Hyacinth said trying hard to make the conversation longer than it should have been. "I might like him a little bit", Hyacinth admitted which got the other girls in a frenzy as they jumped happily around the room. " How did it happen?", Nelly asked out of curiosity, "I gave him my number earlier today when I came across him".

"Well ain't that something!!!" Pat said feeling very happy for her friend. After Hyacinth made her confession, Audrey and Patricia contemplated whether to share their burdens or not, Audrey decided against it while Patricia came to the conclusion to tell them later.

The semester soon started and the girls were more than eager to get back to the lessons, even if they were strenuous. Their late Night talks ensued and Hyacinth had fallen so deeply for David that she couldn't do without talking to him in a day. Nelly's usual call with her mother stopped abruptly the new term, she must have complained to her mother to stop calling her.

David soon mustered enough courage after going on repeated dates with Hyacinth, he thought it was high time he had taken things to the next step. He smiled just thinking about all the moments they had spent online just talking about their likes and dislikes, they had become much more closer from just texting. Hyacinth seemed to amaze him she had even started dropping hints that she was single and ready for a relationship, not that he didn't want to get into a relationship with her, he just wanted to take things slow.

He breathed in and out repeatedly due to nervousness, he had earlier had a meeting with Hyacinth's friends regarding the way he was going to ask her out.

He had planned to give her a very grand surprise, thus he consulted her friends. Together, they planned a very beautiful surprise, the girls wondered themselves how they could keep something so big from her that she didn't find out. The surprise went as planned and she agreed to be his girlfriend, which they celebrated afterwards.

The same year, Patricia crossed paths with her father and his family while she was shopping at one of the city's major supermarket, she finally knew where he was since all these years. She had gone there to shop for some sanitary pads as she usually would incase any of the roommates would need it, as It was a necessity to the ladies

She had seen him when she crossed the food section, looking from the messily arranged section, she saw how happily he looked with his two children and their mother. He didn't even look after her, nor did her make any attempts to try and talk to her, after all the years that went by.

She finally pretended to not know him so she would be about to get the sanitary pads and leave as she was running late. She thought she would at least gain his attention since she was his daughter but he didn't even notice her.

She passed them to get the sanitary ads in the other section and she walked past them again to the check out and he still didn't notice her. She felt bitter, after all the time she spent feeling sad, but he still didn't care about her.

She went back to the dormitory with a sad expression, it was so unlike her and the girls wondered why. She burst into tears after they started comforting her, she didn't even hesitate before she told them everything. Patricia found that she felt lighter after sharing her thoughts with them.

The semester was quite nice, the girls made beautiful memories ranging from their first visit to the club, a couple nights out and their miniature movie nights on Nelly's laptop in their room. Audrey also told the girls about her family and the pension plan and the possibility that she might not finish college. The girls agreed to go with the flow, as they thought that would be better, all the while sticking to each other

The bustle of the college continued and like that a year soon passed, the girls participated in activities hosted by the college. It was now time for the promotional exams, and of course the girls read and focused on passing their exams.
