"William." Jared said chuckling, "What in..."
"If you had been careful, this would have never happened!" William cursed. He reached over to his drawer and lit his cigar.
"Uncle, what are you talking about?" Jared stared at him. "How could this have my DNA? I'm confused."
William paced back and forth, ignoring his nephew. He could pick up scents of other vampires as far as a thousand miles and knew their abilities, but this one was different. It was not only a vampire but a half-human, which was an abomination in the vampire world. He quickly locked the doors and the windows before he turned back to his nephew.
"Aren't vampire women enough?" William continued in his cursing, contemptuous tone.
Jared continued to look at his uncle in confusion.
"You got a mortal pregnant," William said finally. Jared looked at his uncle in disbelief.
"Uncle, I know you don't like me sleeping around with mortal women, but that is such a sickening way to get me to stop." Jared said in anger, "Stop with the ghastly jokes."
William held Jared by his neck and threw him against the wall. "Now you listen to me, boy, this is no joke. You got a human girl pregnant and now she is carrying a vampire inside her. We, vampires, have stayed well-hidden for centuries and if we don't get rid of that girl and the baby, we will soon be discovered."
Jared sat down, staring at the floor in disbelief. "How is this possible?! I thought you said vampires couldn't get humans pregnant."
"Well, this hasn't happened for centuries, so.... think hard, see if you can remember the face of all the human girls you had sex with for the past two weeks. We need to get to her before anyone does."
Jared stood up and paced back and forth, trying to remember the names and the faces of the girls. For most of them, he did not even have to hold a conversation. He just got it from them without trying.
Jared stopped abruptly when he finally remembered. "Shaun." He whispered.
"What?" his uncle said, looking up.
"I forgot I had a meeting to attend. We will continue this conversation later, uncle." Jared quickly replied as he rushed out of the room.
He remembered her now. She was beautiful with her big beautiful, brown eyes and brown curly shoulder-length hair. At first, she was shy as it was also her first time. She was the only girl he had ever been so gentle with and cared for so much that he even carried her home.
He knew he had to get to Shaun before his uncle did.

"Shaun, would you accompany me to the supermarket, please?" Andrene asked, walking into Shaun's room.
"Sure," Shaun answered, taking off her headphones. She grabbed her purse and sneakers and walked out with her aunt.
"I can't believe I only have two days left. Andrene added sadly.
Shaun looked over at her and smiled softly, "You'll be back in no time."
Andrene nodded, "It's good to take a break from the city but I must admit, Shaun, I don't miss the south. It has always been a tad creepy to me," she admitted. She turned to Shaun before opening the car door. "You're a smart girl, Shaun. Your parents have done well for themselves getting that fancy apartment, but it's still the south. Don't let it hold you back. Get out when you can."
Shaun nodded, but what Andrene said lingered in her mind.
Someone was also there waiting for her. He had been waiting at her house, but he overheard when Andrene asked to be accompanied.
He followed close behind as Shaun and her aunt drove off to the supermarket.
He waited for Andrene to park before he made his way over to them.
"Shaun," he said, holding her arm as soon as she came out of the car.
"Jared?" she whispered.
