In Akathra: Expeditions, August Harlow was a pretty average player in all aspects except one, Lore. When you had a question regarding Lore you came to August. Well that would be the case if his guild, "Burning Ambition" the second best guild, didn't hide him away to use for themselves. That's right, August Harlow was only used to get an advantage on monsters and bosses. A complete and utter waste of his talents in his opinion.
He wasn't even thanked for anything, because if the elites of the guild defeated a boss with August's info they got praised, but if they got wiped it was August's fault for, "not providing accurate information." and his already small pay got cut even further. He couldn't even leave the guild because he stupidly signed a contract that was for all intents and purposes a fucking slave contract. Poor Stupid August was to dazzled by the guild to really read the contract.
"Hey August you fucker, where the hell are you, show your self this fucking instant."
"I'm coming John" August replied, "Oh god what was it now" he muttered
John was one of the elites in the Burning Ambition guild, one of the few people with a legendary class and to top it all off, the little brother of the guild leader, because of these traits he also was a complete and utter asshole.
"What the fuck was the information you gave me about the Lord of Wrath. Nothing was like what you said, you caused us to party wipe dipshit."
"What that's not possible, how did the first team get wiped by a level 250 boss, your all level 300." August said with a shocked face.
"That's the fucking thing retard the boss was Level 400 not 250, so looks like your going to get a massive pay cut because of your incompetence."
"The fuck? That's not right, the sealed Lord of Wrath should only be level 250, why was he level 400... wait, did you unseal it?!"
"Yeah Jimmy said we would get more rewards that way."
"I told you guys not to unseal it, why the fuck am I getting a pay cut when this is Jimmy's fault."
" This isn't Jimmy's fault fucktard, it's your fault for not explaining the danger properly."
"What, why is this- you know what, alright fine."
"That's right, know your place August." John sneered.
My blood boiled as John walked away, likely going to tell the guild leader that I was useless again. At least there's one thing to feel happy about, my lore hunt. It was around the time I got going to hunt for more lore.
As I was walking towards the guild entrance, I heard a loud familiar shout. I turned around to see a body flinging itself at me.
"ugh...Charles, I remember telling you not to jump on me."
"Oh come on, August, it's not like I'm hurting you."
Yep this guy that jumped on me was my younger brother Charles. He was two years younger than me and had joined the same guild as me. He, unlike me, is an amazing player who is one of the lucky few who had legendary classes, I think there was about ten of them altogether and that's one of the main reason he was treated really good at Burning Ambition. So good in fact that he didn't have to sign a slave contract, he got a normal contract. He of course didn't know about the fact that I was a slave to the guild. I couldn't tell him either because of the contract.
His class was "Ordained One", yep he was a very powerful priest. So powerful that he was one of the main reasons, that the best guild on the server, "Darken Rain" didn't try to mess with Burning Ambition too much. I mean they would win an all out fight but would incur heavy losses, so they didn't want to go all out.
Getting up I started to walk outside the guild and headed to the teleport station as Charles waved goodbye.
When I stepped onto the magic rune I said the name of the town I was headed to.
"Wyrale."
As a mystical energy emanating from the rune begins to revolve around me, I take one final look and wave at Charles before disappearing in a flash of neon blue light.
I appeared in a small shrine centered in a town and looked around before stepping off and going towards the town walls. I passed many merchant npcs and players setting up shop to sell their wares for the day.
When I got near the walls I walked out of the gates while pulling a map out of my inventory.
"Lets see longitude 56, latitude 78..... oh here it is"
I look up from the map to see a scared landscape that seemed to be the area of a great battle.
"hmm, should be around here somewhere...oh"
I seem to pass through a barrier of some kind and then an item pops out of my inventory.
[Key to a Grave]
I picked it up and it seemed to point in a certain direction. I confirmed this by trying to point it elsewhere but it would always go back to the original direction it was pointing at.
I walked in the direction it was pointing at and came upon a seemingly run down crypt. When I came to the door, the key in my hand jumped to the door, inserted itself into the keyhole and unlocked the door.
Inside was a medium sized coffin which had a longsword resting atop it. As I walked to the sword, it glowed and I immediately grew tense, but just as suddenly as it started, it stopped glowing. I then got the system notification
{You completed the unique quest "Mystery of The Key"}
When I picked up the sword, I was given another system notification. This time, when I read it, my jaw dropped.
{You have obtained the mythical item, "Sword of Sir Gawain"}
I just stand there for a couple seconds before hyperventilating excitedly.
I had just gotten a mythic item for doing practically nothing. I mean I did complete quests to get to where I am but none of them were particularly hard. It was like I was a protagonist or something.
When I got out of my shock I immediately contacted my guild leader while rushing back to the teleportation rune.
----------------------
As soon as I ran through the guild entrance, I was met with the guild leader, a dude named Kyle and John, his brother. The guild leader then said
"Follow me August."
He lead into his office, and when the door was fully closed, he turned to me.
"Is what you said true August?"
"Yes Kyle, sir I really got a mythic item." I said full of glee.
"Ok good.....hand it over"
"What" I said with shock and confusion clear on my face.
"You didn't really think I was going to let you, one of my slaves, keep something so precious did you?" He said with contempt.
"But I found this and-"
Before I could finish I got the notification
{You have been kicked from Burning Ambition}
Immediately I felt a great force hurtle into me and I was sent flying away, but before I touched the ground I turned into light blue particles
{You have died}
That was the start of my fast paced downfall back to level 1. I pleaded and begged the guild leader to stop but he didn't, the only and last thing I heard before being able to log out was,
"Sorry but no one can know we have a mythic item."
When I logged out and opened the gaming pod, I was immediately grabbed and restrained, when I saw who it was, I was shocked, how did John get here so fast, in fact how the hell did he even know where I lived?
Then I felt cold steel pierce my chest as John said, " Goodbye August." with a big grin on his face.
That was the day I closed my eyes for the last time.
