The first year was more or less calm, one could say, but once the grounders start learning how to operate the machines and how to coexist with the other clans as well as the Skykru, things start to get from bad to worse. Not only did some of the grounders start to get sick being locked underground, but some even wanted to get the power to rule above all of the inhabitants of the second dawn bunker, and because of that people died for nothing more than the ambition of someone. Now, a year after they locked themselves underground and three failed rebellions, Octavia looked down at Oleya, the woman who decided that she deserved to be the leader, not some Skykru girl.
Sadly for her, the first and probably last time she tried to rebel failed so bad that almost all of her followers were killed and now, Oleya straightened her shoulders swallowing harshly before looking at Octavia, pleading with her eyes.
"Octavia, please …"
However, Octavia had enough of her fake pleas and attempts of making her the bad guy, so her temper flared for a second as she look down at the woman, fury clearly visible in her eyes.
"What please, Oleya? You want me, the one who saved everyone, the one who made sure that everyone has enough food to get through those hard years be merciful to the people that wanted nothing more than to live in luxury and eat as much as they want? Even I eat the same portion of food as everyone else. I also live in a barrack-like everyone else, so please do tell me, why should I be merciful to people like you?"
She could see Oleya swallowing again and Indra took a small step back letting the traitor face their commander alone.
"I didn't want people to die. They were supposed to knock out the guards to get to the weapons, no one was supposed to die…Please believe me."
Even a fool could see that she was lying. Not to mention that Indra had a mole infiltrated inside of her little group and that mole told her, how Oleya had worked so hard the last weeks to convince her clan as well as the Ice Nation and its allies that joining her would be the only sensible choice someone that wanted to live a better should do. While some were fooled by her promises, not all of the people from those clans believe her blindly and that led to her standing in front of Octavia as a prisoner.
Hearing those words only made Octavia angrier than she already was. Not only was this woman lying to her face about everything being a mistake, but this woman even had the guts to tell her that no one other than her was supposed to die tonight.
"It seems that you don't care what will happen to your clan. After all, why would you care in the first place, no? You only wanted to become a queen, one that would have both power and respect and live however you want."
"N…"
The woman wanted to speak, but Indra stopped her, forcing the woman back on the ground.
"Don't interrupt me now, Oleya. You said that no one was supposed to die, right? Well, people, our people did die tonight. Four guards have been killed, and eleven more injured. More blood has been spilled and this will not stand unpunished! But I give you one chance to redeem your clan."
Oleya couldn't believe what she was hearing, but one thing was for sure, if she by some miracle gets out of there, she swears on everything she holds dear to kill this girl that believes to be some kind of god.
"Killing your own people and attempting to steal the food of the same people is akin to high treason, Oleya. And as we all know, that treason is punishable by death".
Once again, everyone saw Oleya swallowing forcefully before Octavia continued not giving the prisoner a chance to speak up in her defense, not that someone was ever going to believe her.
"I don't want to say this, but you didn't give me any option. I thought that the Ice Nation would be the ones who would rebel, but it seems that I was wrong, and now it makes me question my offer for your people to join us here, as the last of mankind. Some of you are still seeing me as a naïve little girl and while that might not be wrong, I swore to keep you all safe and alive, but I failed and now someone wants to make sure that not all of us would get to see the surface. As the commander and the champion of the coalition, I hereby declare Oleya of the Boudalan as a traitor."
Oleya had paled considerably when she heard Octavia's words and just as she was, about to grab her legs and plead for forgiveness, two Trikru guards dragged her away, but not before, she heard her punishment. "I'm not a monster, but I won't forgive traitors. Tonight you will fight in the arena, the more you win the longer you will live!"
Once the woman was dragged away, Octavia turned towards her teacher and friend, Indra.
"What have her people decided?"
"They would follow your rule, Osleya. All of them despite Oleya and don't want to have anything to do with her rebellion, as for those that followed her…they all are dead."
Octavia nodded feeling a slight weight being lifted from her shoulders, and while there was no doubt that a lot of things need to be addressed in the next few days, for now, the situation become calm once more.
"How many have we lost Indra?"
"A hundred and forty-seven people died in the last year, most of them were not happy with how little they had to make do and wanted to get rid of you."
"But our people also died. Sometimes I wonder what would have Leon and Bellamy done if they were in my position?"
"I can't say what your brother would have done since I barely know him, but one thing is for sure if that boy was to be here today, not many people would have had the courage to rebel against him. His reputation and strength made sure that no one would ever try to double cross him, not after what happened at Mount Weather ."
"I miss them… I miss all of them…"
