Chapter 56 - Chapter 56 - The assassination of Lexa Kom Trikru

After the whole fight for my survival ended, I was quickly taken to Camp Jaha by Bellamy and, with Lexa's permission, so that Abby could take care of my wounds while Clarke and Marcus had to remain behind for obvious reasons.

Now that the feud was over, the Commander and Clarke stood over and looked at the people that were slowly going back to their previous assignments with only a few remaining behind. It wasn't easy for Lexa, but she waited for a while before she decided to speak with Clarke, seeing that the girl wasn't that comfortable with what had just happened, mostly thanks to her and her boyfriend.

"I know that it's hard to accept what your mother had done, but you have to keep moving forward. While no one died today, I know how hard it is to lose someone special to you."

Clarke turned her head and looked at Lexa, slightly uncomfortable with the direction of this conversation, yet for some reason, she didn't dislike the idea of spending more time with Lexa than going back to Finn.

"Her name was Costia. She was captured by the ice nation whose queen believed that Costia knew my secrets. After all, it wasn't a secret that she was mine, and because of that… they tortured her...killed her...cut off her head."

"I'm sorry for your loss."

"I thought I'd never get over the pain, but I did."

"How?"

"By recognizing it for what it is. It wasn't easy and at first, I didn't want to admit it, but in the end, I had to and you know what it was?"

"" Weakness""

"So you just stopped caring? About everyone? That's what makes you a strong leader?"

Seeing that Lexa wasn't going to say anything about it, Clarke realized that what she had just said was the cruel truth about what she had to do to protect her life and people.

"I could never do that. I don't believe that's the right way."

"Then you put the people you care about in danger, and the pain will never go away. Even now, when you almost lost the boy you love, you suffered, imagine how you would have felt if he would have died? The dead are gone, Clarke and the living ones are greedy."

"Then about Leon? "

"Clarke…I may not know him that well, but compared to you, he has a different way of dealing with his problems and enemies, and even I have to admit that I'm jealous of his willpower as well as his strength to deal with these things. "

With that said the commander, Clarke, and Marcus as well as Lexa's honor guard returned to TonDC where they were escorted to a room, where a feast would occur to celebrate the truce between the Sky People and the Grounders. Thankfully I wasn't that injured as the amount of blood on my body indicated and as such, I, together with Bellamy, Raven, Monroe, and even Finn arrived at TonDC to be part of the entourage from our "Tribe", one hour after Lexa and her people returned.

We all met with Clarke and Kane before entering the room where the feast was, and when we walked inside, Marcus was the first to speak, since he was the one who had brought the gift, he and Abby decided to give it as a sign of goodwill to the grounders for this event.

"Please accept this gift, Commander. My people used to drink such fine alcohol on some special occasions. I believe that the end of our conflict as well as our alliance qualify as a special occasion."

He extended the bottle, while Lexa nodded at one of her warriors, who reached forward and took the bottle before he gave it to her.

"Thank you, Marcus, of the Sky People."

"You're welcome...Lexa. Kom Trikru. Just don't drink too much of it."

The Commander didn't really get the joke, so all she did was turn and look at the blonde standing across from her at the long dining table.

"Leon, Clarke, let us drink together."

"It would be my pleasure."

"As Leon said, it would be a pleasure, Lexa."

Lexa's warrior set forth three cups for the Commander to pour the alcohol into, and Lexa grabbed two cups before she reached forward to give me and Clarke our drinks. Just as Lexa was about to drink, Gustus grabbed the cup from her hand first, and while it may seem rude to do this, I had to admit that I would like to have someone that would sacrifice his life for me. Not being bothered at all by what Gustus had done, we all took a small sip, yet enough for us to taste the strong alcohol After he tasted the alcohol, he handed the cup back to Lexa, who held her head high and spoke clearly.

"Tonight, we celebrate our newfound peace. Tomorrow, we plan our war."

Before Clarke could say anything, I got up and looked at the people that were on the other side of our table.

"To those we've lost and to those we shall soon find. May our enemy sleep in fear!"

Almost all of the grounders, as well as my friends, together with the few guards Kane brought with him here cheer up at my words. At the same time, Clarke raised the glass as well, ready to drink, but before she could, Gustus staggered a little before he collapses over the dining table and causes an immediate uproar amongst his people. Glasses and dishes broke as Grounders surrounded him, trying to find what was wrong with him, some of the warriors even took out their weapons ready to fight us. Most likely, because we were the only strangers that would gain something by poisoning one of the best warriors their beloved commander has under her wing.

"Poison! He was poisoned!" As soon as I heard those words, my head turned towards Kane and then to Clarke, hoping that these two didn't though to kill Lexa today, but after seeing the worried look on Clarke's face as well as the confused expression on Kane's face, I knew that this wasn't a terrible assassination attempt made by our side. Right as that warrior shouted that Gustus was poised, Finn reached over and knocked the cup right out of Clarke's hand and onto the ground. Suddenly, one of the Grounders turned around and waved her sword at those across the table, while the rest of the warriors surrounded us with their swords in their hands, waiting for their commander to give the order.

"It was the Sky People! They tried to kill our commander!"

Since she was the closest one to Lexa, Clarke looked at her, as if she begged the commander to trust her heart rather than her eyes.

"This wasn't us! Lexa, you know that we will only lose if kill you!"

The very same warrior that stated that Gustus was poised, started shouting out commands, and suddenly, one of his friends dashed towards the closest and what he believes to be the weakest person in our group. Monroe was about to rush forward and drag Clarke back to our side when suddenly she was tackled to the ground by the grounder that dashed forward.

"Get… the hell …off of me, you bastard!"

She tried to fight back and even threw a punch at him, but the Grounder caught her arm and twisted it that badly, it nearly broke her arm. Before it could happen, thankfully, Bellamy, who was beside her, kicked the grounder in the face with his heavy boots. The ground was sent backward while Marcus quickly helped Monroe back to her feet.

Some fools even jumped at me, and sadly for them, they won't be awake to see how this whole rather suspicious assassination attempt would end. Just as Anya, who until now didn't react that much was about to attack me, Clarke stepped forward and dodged a warrior to try to search her, probably for the poison that was used on the alcohol, as she quickly closed the distance between her and the Commander.

"Lexa, you have to believe me when I tell you that we didn't do this!"

"Gustus warned me about your people, but I didn't listen! I was blinded by you!"

"Lexa, please! You have…"

"Tell me something, Clarke, if your friend didn't sacrifice his freedom and his life for your boyfriend, would have you plunged your knife in the heart of your lover to ease his suffering and give him a mercy death? Maybe you would have wished to do the same to me. Regardless of what you say, the truth is that your people tried to poison me. I thought that you were different Clarke, but it seems that my people were right, we can only be enemies."

Meanwhile, Anya and I were "dancing" amongst the crowd of grounders, who looked at us as if we were crazy for fighting like that in a rather small room like the one we were in. Yet, contrary to what the two of us seemed to do, we were slowly making our way towards the bottle of alcohol brought by Kane, as well as the cup from which Gustus drank, because Anya suspected something and rather than saying It to her friend, she came to me, her enemy or better said nemesis.

Rather than listening to Clarke, Lexa gritted her teeth and shouted her orders.

"No Sky Person leaves this room until we find the culprit!"

Suddenly, Anya's voice was heard from behind the table. "Commander! I can prove to you that, the sky people weren't the ones that plotted against you!"

Before Lexa or even Clarke and Kane could say anything, I raise the bottle, the very same bottle, Kane brought her as a gift, in the air, before I chug down half of the bottle without hesitation.

The moment they saw my stupid way of proving our innocence, Clarke, Monroe, Finn, Raven, and even Bellamy shouted my name in fear, but alas, I wasn't going to let anyone from our side die today, not after what I had to go through to save one already.

Contrary to what the grounders thought would happen, I finished the whole bottle, and surprisingly enough for them, I was still alright, albeit a little bit drunk, but in the end, I prove my point, the alcohol wasn't poisoned.

As soon as I finished drinking the whole bottle, Anya took the cup from which Gustus drank and pour some water into it before she drank from it, without caring about the poison that may affect her the same way it did to Gustus.

Unsurprisingly, she reacted the same way, Gustus did, but rather than falling to the ground like him, I was beside her the whole time and just as she was about to collapse, I caught her before I gently lay her on the ground. While it was disgusting, I still had to help Anya so I did what I was taught back on the Ark: I forced her to throw up the poison that she had just drunk and while it didn't completely get rid of her symptoms, she did regain a tiny bit of her strength.

After we demonstrate that my people weren't the ones to poison the cup, Lexa turned towards Gustus with a complicated look on her face, but regardless of what his intention may have been, she had to punish him for almost poisoning her, even if it was the best option for their people.

"Take Gustus away, he will be punished accordantly, but not before Anya is treated. " Lexa looked at Clarke when she said that and the blonde simply nodded at the commander before she walked beside us.

"Thank you, Leon, you too Anya for what you have done. You two have saved the lives of many people today, as well as our alliance."

I just smiled at her, before I got on my feet, ready to go out and see if I could gain something from this, even if I would have to pay a hefty price for it.
