Chapter 48 - Chapter 48 - Messiah (2)

Finn and I quickly made our way to where Raven usually stays, only to find almost all of our friends besides Bellamy and Octavia already gathered inside as if they were planning something that would undoubtedly include breaking out our friends out of Mt. Weather. As soon the door was opened, they all got ready to lie, or at least that's what their faces seem to show, thankfully for all of us, the ones that caught them were Finn and I rather than Byrne or even Dr. Griffin or else who knows how many days would they have to spend in a cell.

"Finn, Leon! You are back!"

When she saw us, Clarke run straight into Finn's arms, while I went beside Raven and Monroe giving both of them a short hug before nodding at Sterling and Murphy.

"How come you two are back so soon?"

"They got attacked Clarke, am I right?"

"Murphy's right, our team was ambushed when we were resting by a rather significant amount of warriors. While we managed to fight them back, other than the two of us, only one person survived, in my book their ambush was successful even though it wasn't a total victory."

"Sorry if this may sound harsh, Leon, but right now we are trying to find a way to save our friends. We managed to contact Monty thanks to the antenna that is jamming our communications and their odds aren't that great. The longer they stay there, the less chance they would have to get out."

"Wait a minute, Raven, we won't be able to save them by ourselves. We are what? Four guys and two girls, you excluded since we would need someone who can actually think back here to help us, while Mt. Weather has at least five times that many guards and soldiers. Whoever I look at this, it won't be an easy or even possible mission."

Before anyone could say anything to Monroe for being so pessimistic about the odds of success, Abby's voice was heard from the intercom.

"By now, you've all heard the rumor, and as much as it pains me to admit, it's true. The Grounders are coming to either kill us or retake this place for themselves after we left. In our current situation, we have to make a difficult decision. Thankfully, Chancellor Jaha has found his way back to us and we're discussing all options."

Immediately after Abby said that bad news, Jaha seemed to take the microphone. After all, Thelonious was a leader, not a follower and if the situation doesn't seem to work in his favor, he'll definitely find a way to fix that.

"I'm sorry to bring that horrific news to you, my people, who survive the fall, the people that lived every day under the constant threat of an army of savages, but right now we need to prepare for the worst. For now, we need to pack whatever we can easily carry. As for why I say that? Well, there's a slight chance that we may need to leave suddenly if the diplomatic approach with the grounders fails or if they attack us sooner than they said!"

While everything was happening, we made our way outside only to see Abby and Thelonious being surrounded by a mob of scared people.

"Where will we go?" asked a worker from within the crowd, his voice crackling in fear.

"Sadly my dear friend, I don't know where on this Earth we would be safe from these people or where we could make a home for our children where they would be safe. But as I was trying to find my way back to you, I heard of a place, a city of light where everyone is accepted, where no one hates you, a sanctuary for everybody. It's across the dead zone, away from this place, and more importantly away from these savages that want us dead."

"What makes you think we'll make it there?"

"It quite simply, after all, it shouldn't be that hard, since we made it here, we would definitely make it there! And above all, I have faith in us and...Right now, given the alternative, that's more than enough for me."

Some people seemed to be fooled by the dreams of a madman, but not all of us were going to risk our lives for a place that may very well be a hex.

"He's mad! How could he say that? Let's leave and abandon the kids that were forcefully kidnapped? To hell with that, that's not going to happen!"

"We won't leave, even if that means dying! A few days ago I was ready to die just to protect the dropship and the people that I was thrown down here with and today I have to make the same choice. You better believe it that I'll do it once again."

My voice seemed to shadow the noisy crowd, which, sadly, earned me Abby's and Jaha's attention as well as the attention of the people that were already there. All of the workers and guards turned toward me as if I just took the microphone from someone that was on stage, but even with all of those eyes on me, I won't fooled by Jaha's childish dream.

"If we leave this place, what's going to happen to my friends that are still being locked in Mount Weather? Because I for one would never abandon the people that fought side by side against the grounders. I'm not an adult like you all, but I have more balls than all of you combined, so please, be my guest, leave and search for a fairy tale. You can curse me or even blame me if that's what you want, but regardless of what you people decide to do, I will remain here and try to find a way of getting my friends, and your children back home alive."

While my words had touched some people, Thelonious wasn't going to let a teenager steal his place as the Messiah, so he quickly spoke before the situation goes out of his control.

"As Abby had said earlier…" Jaha spoke while at the same looking me dead in the eyes as if he wished I was dead "…we have a difficult decision to make, one that would affect all of our lives. We survive the war, and we managed to live in space, but now, has come the time for each and every one of us to ask ourselves if this is how we would die or if we are willing to risk and find a better place where we could continue our story? Did we come all this way just to die tomorrow? Because if we're not gone by the time that sun rises, that is exactly what will happen! These grounders won't show you any mercy!"

Right after Jaha finished his speech, murmurs broke out through the crowd of people, whatever they were of praise or of protest, it was unclear, but one thing was for sure, our people need a leader that would keep their morale high and their lives safe. However, Dr. Griffin looked at her people and decided that she needs to speak up before anyone start creating even more problems.

"No decision has been made as of yet! Please report to your station supervisor and gather emergency supplies. Whenever we are going to flee or stand and fight, you all would be announced after we meet and discuss our chances, but please believe in us and don't panic."

After Abby said those "encouraging " words, she and Thelonious left the stage while some of the guards remained behind to calm down the crowd, because as sad as it may sound, this gathering of people would turn into chaos as soon as they realize how bad our situation was. While everyone scrambled for emergency supplies. I dragged Clarke, who was just behind me, staring at her mother and the former Chancellor, but just as I grabbed her, someone crashed into me.

Before Clarke, who was unfortunately sent to the ground could react, the guy that crashed into us, quickly grabbed her and brought her back to her feet.

"Clarke! We need your help."

"Be-Bellamy? What happened?"

"Lincoln…he needs help. We need to hurry ."

He tried to move, but I grabbed his wrist, forcing Bellamy to remain still. "You disappear for a day and now you are coming here to take Clarke away? Have you forgotten the last time she disappeared what happened?"

"I'm sorry, but we really need to leave. Leon, gather the team and meet us at the dropship. And, take guns, I don't know if they followed us or not."

"Don't worry, just take care, I'd hate to lose a friend, especially now."

Bellamy nodded at me before, he and Clarke dashed towards her room where she had all of the things that could treat wounds in the field, while I just went back to where Murphy and Monroe were drinking some moonshine.
