Chapter 50 - Chapter 50 - The path to end the war

"How's Lincoln?"

"He'll live, but I don't know if he'll be the Lincoln we know or if he'll still be a reaper when he wakes up."

"I'm sure he'll be fine when the drug is out of his system, but we still need to be careful. After all, I don't believe anyone wants to be injured like Leon."

"Be serious, Bellamy if anyone other than has been hit by that chain, they wouldn't have been able to fight for a while, besides I'm still pretty much able to fight if the situation demands it."

Meanwhile, Finn was watching Clarke as she prepared herself so that she could take the bullet out of Lincoln's thigh. As soon as she let out a sigh, Clarke steeled herself before she dug her fingers into Lincoln's wound, causing the Reaper to scream violently, trying to once again break free from his shackles. Everyone beside me, did their best to hold him down, and at last, Clarke managed to find the bullet before she pulled her hand out of the wound. What followed after was Clarke putting a tourniquet to slow the bleeding as well as a bandage to stop it.

"Your mom would be proud of what you had done, princess."

"No, Murphy, even though she may be proud, if she was in my place, she would have known how to save him."

After she said that, Clarke got up on her feet and went beside Finn, who was drinking some water, to grab a piece of cloth so that she could wipe the blood off her hands. Unexpectedly for all of us, just as Clarke was about to grab the cloth, the hatch was opened which to be fair wasn't a good sign, especially when I just realized that someone was missing.

Right after Bellamy looked around the room and failed to see his sister, he looked over at the hatch and saw his sister followed closely from behind by another person. Just as he saw the head of the grounder, Bellamy shouted, before all of us raised our guns at the hatch, preparing ourselves for a fight in the worst place possible. Thankfully, Octavia stepped in front of the Grounder, so that we won't kill him.

I raised my eyes at her, asking her what was this about, and thankfully she responded before Bellamy or Finn fired their guns at the grounder that kind of seem familiar for some reason.

"Don't shoot, he's Lincoln's friend, as well as mine!"

Even though it was strange for Octavia to bring a grounder here, I decided to bite the bullet and trust her, so before anyone could do it, I lowered my gun, before I went over to the grounder.

"I'm Leon, nice to meet you…"

"Nyko, I heard about you from Wells. And to be honest, you don't seem to be that scary as he told me."

"Glad to see that I'm somewhat known in your village, albeit for the bad things I did to your people."

"I may not agree with the way my people wage war, but even I, a healer know that in a war, people die, both warriors and villagers. "

"So…I guess, Octavia brought you here to help Lincoln?"

"Yes…"

Before he could finish his sentence, Lincoln began to convulse for the second time, this time though, even more violently than the first time which scared Octavia, bringing the poor girl to tears. Nyko rushed over and kneeled by Lincoln's side before he pulled out a bag with all kinds of small bottles filled with what I believe to be a painkiller or an antidote. He picked one of the bottles and closed his eyes for a second.

"Yu gonplei ste odon,my friend."

While I wasn't fluent in their language, I managed to learn quite a few words thanks to some of my regular visits to Niylah, and if I wasn't wrong these words were referring to death, at least that's what I put together since I don't really know all of the words.

"Wait a minute. We aren't going to kill him, healer."

Nyko glanced at me for a second, before he unsheathed his knife and slashed at me. Sadly for him, this wasn't my first time being attacked by one of his people and just as the knife was about to cut me, I grabbed his hand twisting it so that he would drop the knife, before pinning the grounder to the floor.

"Is it true Nyko? You tried to kill Lincoln?"

"Yes, it's the only way. There's nothing we can do for the ones that had become reapers. As sad and painful as it may seem, we can only end their suffering.

"You don't know that! There has to be a way to save him."

"None that have seen, but by all means find another reaper to test your idea."

Suddenly Murphy who wasn't the most talkative guy of the day raised his walkie-talkie in the air.

"Guys, we have to go back to the camp. They are preparing to leave."

"We can't abandon Lincoln! Leave if you want, Murphy, but I will remain by his side!"

"O, don't talk like that. Murphy's right, we need to leave or else we will remain here stranded. At least let's go back to the camp."

"Clarke! He's not moving!"

Hearing Sterling's shout, Octavia immediately went over to Lincoln, and as soon as she checked his pulse she panicked.

"His heart isn't working."

"Move, Octavia."

Without caring about Octavia, Clarke pushed her away before she pressed her hands together and started doing compressions on Lincoln's chest. As the time passes, everyone thought that Lincoln was a lost cause, but despite what anyone said, Clarke continued to compress, and after another minute or two, there was a gasping sound, followed by Lincoln opening his eyes as he start to breathe as if there was no tomorrow.

When she saw him back to life, Clarke and Octavia, let out a sigh before Clarke, let Octavia hug him.

"He was dead!"

Nyko exclaimed in shock as a bewildered look appeared on his face. After all, there wasn't any knowledge that thought the grounders how to attempt to save someone whose heart had stopped moving. Clarke looked at him, not understanding how these people even survived so long without the basic emergency treatment.

"How did you do that?"

Instead of Clarke, I decide to respond to his question with another one of my own.

"Nyko, have you tried to resuscitate reapers before?"

"Yes, but every time the result was the same. Every single one of them died. If…if my people can learn your method, then maybe, just maybe we could save them."

As soon as my guess was answered by Nyko, I smiled at Clarke, who realized what I just did.

"I know how to stop the attack. Thanks, Nyko. I'll teach you later how to do it."

Besides me and Clarke, no one knew what she was talking about, but one thing was for sure, now, we have a chance to stop the grounders from attacking our camp and at the same time stop this war that had already taken way too many lives.
