Chapter 35 - Chapter 35 - The things we do

Another warrior stepped up to Clarke and held her in place while Finn was guided away with no resistance at all by a masked warrior. He just told Clarke to cease the fighting to save herself instead while at the same time, he nodded at Wells.

"No!" Clarke screamed and tried to get away from the warrior holding her in place "I tried everything, please" her voice shrill in desperation as she watch her boyfriend being dragged away, meanwhile the same warrior that was keeping her on the ground, took out her sword.

But her pleas went unanswered and Mara followed Anya and the warrior carrying Tris outside.

Horses had been tied to the outside of the structure and the grounder carrying Tris was already mounting his own, carefully holding the girl' still limp body to his chest, fearing that even the slightest mistake could open the wounds of the girl.

Tris had earned the respect of the warriors of TonDC. She had been exceptionally brave and experienced for someone as young as she was, yet she was also one of the few kids that had already earned her own kill marks. She had been well known and honored to be Anya's second in command.

"What happens now? That girl saved Tris."

Mara asked Anya almost in a pained whisper when the woman just stood routed next to her horse with a stony expression contorting her features. Mara could barely look away from the warrior holding Tris, one of her hands hanging beside his larger form limply looking as dead as someone passed out could look.

Anya looked at the woman in front of her and let out a deep sigh, pushing the loss of her second for the upcoming offensive, away for now. Right now, she needs to take the girl back to TonDC where the healers would take care of her until she returns victorious.

"The boys will be executed. I stand by my orders, Mara. No matter what you would say would change my decision. Blood must have blood!"

Even though she wasn't forced to explain her motive, Anya still told Mara why she was so adamant about executing the two boys after they helped save the life of her second while pointing out toward Finn and Wells who just stood next to the grounders holding them with an empty expression on their face.

"Tris needs to be returned to TonDC to be taken care of by Nyko and the rest of the healers while we honor the dead that are waiting on the pyre."

Although Anya didn't seem to care that much about the dead, Mara could still see the sliver of loss in her brown eyes when she mentioned the dead warriors. Most may not know Anya as she does, but one thing everyone knows that's general respect and taking care of all of her warriors.

"After we honor the dead, we will march on their camp again, razing it to the ground and killing anyone that lives there. We will show them no mercy for the horrors that they brought upon my people!"

Her hate for these people only grew stronger when she almost lost her second friend when these stupid kids blow up the bridge. Peace was never an option in the first place, and the Trikru would not forgive the people that massacred theirs.

"Skull, Crow, you two take the boys and just cut their necks somewhere in the forest. They are worthless in my eyes."

The two warriors holding Finn and Wells just nodded at Anya without a verbal answer and mounted their own horses with the boys being thrown on them as if they were already dead.

After a moment of consideration, Anya turned toward Mara with a complicated expression on her face. "I want you to accompany Tris and the blonde girl back to TonDC. I want you to be for Tris while I'm away getting revenge for what they had done to her."

Mara could only nod at Anya's decision of sending her away from this fight, sensing that trying to argue with the woman now would not have gone over too well. For once Anya was scared of losing the only friend that she knew since she was a little girl. Mara stood there and watched Anya mount her horse before she too got on her horse and went to take Clarke with them.

When she entered the structure again, she remained frozen in the entrance for a while, as her mind tried to process what she was seeing.

Clarke was kneeling in front of the grounder that was supposed to guard her and was pressing his mouth closed. Mara could see the blood flowing out of the man's neck as he tried in the last desperate attempt to stop the bleeding with his own hands.

"Are you crazy? What have you done?"

She screamed, horrified at what she had just witnessed, once she had found her voice again and she looked at the blonde girl with widened eyes. Clarke had just signed her death warrant by killing the man. Even if Anya had seemed intent to let the girl live, now she would surely be executed alongside Finn and Wells.

"I'm not going to stay here and become Anya's slave. If you want to stop me, you'll have to kill me and you better be prepared to die, since I'm not going with you anywhere close to your home."

Mara could only shrug her shoulder in response, no matter how she tries, there was only one ending to this madness and that was the death of these three kids. Alas, the girl's efforts were all four naught now that she had killed the man responsible for her safety.

"Go and never came back here. I'll knock myself out. Hopefully, this would give you enough time to leave. Also, tell Lincoln and Ana that they are idiots for going against Anya's orders."

Clarke didn't understand what the woman was trying to say, but she nodded before storming off the building and running off into the woods to search for Finn and Wells.

It was completely dark outside and she still had not gotten the hang of moving around the forest in total darkness and it was painfully obvious that Clarke was the best person to sneak out of a place. She was way too loud for someone that was supposed to be undetected. Clarke could only hope that she wouldn't stumble across a patrol or else all of her efforts would be for nothing.

To her relief, she did not run into any scouts on her way, but sadly for her, Clarke triggered a booby trap a few moments later and a second later she was dangling upside down from some long ropes from trees. She let out a scream as soon she found her world being inverted after that she realized how much trouble she had just gotten herself into.

Anya found her only a short time later, accompanied by Mara and the other warriors. The woman had started to worry when the grounder that Clarke had killed and Mara had not arrived with her new addition when they were told to arrive.

"Where is he?"

Anya demanded to know in a sharp tone, but this question wasn't directed at Clarke, instead, Anya looked directly at the bloody woman that was supposed to get the girl that got herself caught in a simple trap.

Mara looked at Clarke accusingly as if everything was her fault. "She killed him by the time I arrived there. Before I could even react, she knocked me out. By the time I woke up, she was far away so I guessed that the traps or the patrols would find an inexperienced girl."

"Another brave warrior died in the hands of those sky children. Another reason to get rid of them is, We are taking her with us."

Clarke got herself tied up by one of the grounders before he grabbed her and put her on his horse. Along the way to TonDC, the small party stopped when a towering figure steps out in the open, making Anya frown when she saw him.

"What's the meaning of this Tristan?"

"Heda ordered me to take over this offensive. You are way too emotionally involved in this to properly lead our people."

"If that's what Heda desire."

"We march right now, the skai children will die by tomorrow!"

Tristan ordered the warriors. Mara looked at Anya unsure of what she should do with Tris, as she wouldn't agree to take the wounded girl back into a meat grinder against those crazy kids.

"Take Tris back to TonDC and kill the prisoner along the way. We don't have any use after what she did."

Anya ordered the warrior with a skull mask while she followed after Tristan. Even though she won't be able to fight side by side with her second, Anya would do everything in her power to at least see her safe from all of this.

As soon as the grounders left, Clarke began to beg the warrior to spare her life and let her go, when the man finally lifted his mask.

"Lincoln!" Mara, who was tightly holding on to Tris gasped in shock when she recognized the man and when she saw Finn and Wells appearing behind a tree trunk obviously alive and unharmed with Ana, she knew that all along these sky kids weren't going to die, but now she and her step-daughter's life were at risk.

"Don't worry Mara, I know that you tried to help. Ana would join you while I take these three back to their camp. Take care of Tris and pray for our lives."

"Thank you, Lincoln and I hope you would survive Anya's wrath."

"Nonetheless, I have to do this."

"Good luck, too all four of you."
