Chapter 39 - Chapter 39 - Talk with Kane

When we reached Alpha Station, the people that survived the fall gave us a warm welcome before Murphy and Raven were taken into Medical Bay by Abby, at the same time I was also asked to follow her for a simple check-up on my wounds. Meanwhile, Bellamy and Finn were taken to a secure location within the station by the guards while Monroe and Sterling were left alone to either find their parents if they had any or simply help around the camp.

At the same time, Kane went directly to Sinclair, who was waiting for him in front of the gate. After they shake their hands, Kane looked down at a piece of metal, on which someone had carved "Camp Jaha" on it. Seeing what was written on it, Kane raised his head and looked at Sinclair.

"I guess this was your idea."

"You are right, sir. We did manage to survive thanks to Thelonious so I thought that it would be a good idea to name this place after him."

"There's no doubt that this is a good idea. About the other matter, tell me, Sinclair, is the radio still down, right?"

"Unfortunately, sir we can barely even communicate between us and the teams sent out to either scout or search for survivors. I believe that something or someone is jamming our comms. We can only hope that Thelonious survived."

Hearing that they still don't have any idea if Thelonious survived, Kane took a moment to reorganize his thoughts, thinking about the Chancellor who had sacrificed himself for his people. Too many things had happened in one day for Kane to process, not to mention rescuing the kids as well most likely saving Raven Reyes's life to the fact that they still hadn't found where the rest of the kids had disappeared.

"Sinclair, if you manage to bypass the jamming, inform me as soon as it happens. "

"Don't worry sir, I'll do everything in my power to get our comms up and ready, especially when those grounders are lurking around our camp."

After he was done talking with Sinclair, Kane decided to walk around and observe the people working themselves to build a decent camp that would protect everyone from the Grounders and more than that provide them a new life down on Earth.

As the people were carrying all kinds of pieces of metal or even fences out from the station, Kane walked into Alpha Station, where the guards and engineers he had appointed were working to make the inside of the station save for either working or even walking around without risking tripping over wires or having some metals beams fall on top of their heads.

Meanwhile, I was taken away by the guards as soon as Abby told me that I was healing nicely. If I had to guess, getting taken to a secured room was defiantly Kane's move of getting me under control.

At the same time, the man that gave the order was looking at the guards positioned outside of my locked room, Kane nodded to the guards and gave the guard his pistol, fearing that I may fight back.

As soon as he entered the room, Kane went over to one of the chairs and sit on it while looking at me.

"I would have asked you how long are you going to keep me locked, but I guess it's pointless to ask you that, so, instead, I want to know what you hope to gain from this whole thing."

"You are going to stay here until I'm confident you're no longer a threat to the people that live here. Even though you aren't exactly like the reports described you to be, I can't be sure that you won't go on a murder spree. Also, Leon, I'm really sorry for this, but you have to understand my standing as well. I'm a member of the council and you are a criminal that was deemed dangerous for the safety of our people, despite what you have done to provide the needs and safety of the kids that were sent down here alongside you."

After he made his point, he grabbed the chair and positioned it in front of me, taking a seat for himself. He could see that I was getting frustrated by this whole charade, but Kane didn't bat an eye.

"Bellamy said there were hundreds of Grounders attacking your camp. So how many of them were exactly, two? Three hundred? Maybe more?"

"More than a hundred that's for sure, but neither one of us had the time to count how many enemies were moving through our barrage of bullets to kill us."

"What about their tactics and armament? Did they use guns against you?"

"Their tactics were as crude as the ones used in medieval times, same for their weapons. They detest technology to some extent or at least the vast majority of their people do."

"When I talked to Clarke she did mention that you got hit by a spear, but I didn't expect them to use these kinds of primitive weapons as their main way of fighting and hunting."

"I don't know what you want to achieve from this conversation, but can we please hurry up? I need to get out and search for the rest of my people."

"That's out of the question. You're not trained for this kind of mission and not to mention that only the guards can move out of the camp, and even they have a hard time fighting the grounders."

"Those are my people out there. You have to let me go and find them."

I tried to sound as firm as I could, but when I look at Kane I could see the look in his eye. Marcus leaned forward and it was clear that he wasn't going to give on letting me leave to find the rest of the delinquents.

"Your friends, they're my people, too."

Unlike before, Kane didn't have the paternal spark anywhere in his eyes or even the aura of a protective father around him. Right now, he is different from Abby, not having the same aura that I saw in her, the worried look on her face when she didn't find her daughter, and fearing the worst over Clarke's unknown whereabouts, but Kane? He looked as if all he wanted was to kill every Grounder he could get his hands on. Thankfully a few seconds later, he returned to his usual self.

"Well, that's kind of it. Thanks for your time, Leon. You are free to go now."

"That's it?"

"That's it. I interrogate you long enough to understand you and if anyone asks, I can simply tell them what you have just said to me. We all did horrible things in our lives and that's not an excuse for what we are going to do in the future."

Kane didn't say anything afterward and simply left the room, leaving me alone with a dumbfounded expression on my face. At least I can now walk around the campo without fearing that he would order the guards to lock me away out of nowhere…again.

The first thing that I did was to find my friends and unsurprisingly, all five of them were in the cafeteria eating their first meal after almost a day and a half.
