It would be the next day, and as fast rumors go, Migi and I became a little bit popular.
Migi: [ Rather than being popular, I'd appreciate it if they just kept quiet. ]
Najimi: [ You will get used to it soon. ]
After our classes, Migi sought shelter in the clubroom after people had left and right followed him, asking questions if he did face a gangster.
Migi's face was plastered with gauze, and instead of shaming him, the students of our school were in awe.
Rumors can evolve by themselves as people pass them by, either they exaggerate it n a bad way or and good way. However, in Migi's case, it was both.
Migi had tried to protect me and Mayu from a member of the gang Five Black Clubs and was successful despite being beaten up himself, that was at least what the rumors had told the people.
I had no intention to correct that. Besides, this could be something he wants, clout and popularity, so that Mayu can notice him.
Okai: [ But, Mayu didn't attend classes today. ]
Mendou: [ ——Okay, why are you here? Don't you have a club to manage? ]
With all the seats on the small table our literature club had, Okai sat on the last chair beside Migi who had his head down, leaning toward the desk.
I was just in front of Migi, and beside me was Hoshoujo, sitting diagonally adjacent to our club president, Najimi.
Okai: [ Forget that. The Art Club can work itself without me! My cousin's hurt and you don't want me to be here? ]
Speaking in a half-assed angry tone, Okai was never angry at me. He just wanted to act like the part to liven up the mood.
But going back to what Okai said, Mayu didn't attend classes. As far as Migi was able to know, Mayu didn't want to attend classes as she didn't feel safe.
He knew the number of their household, and with her mother answering the phone, she was reasonably mad as Migi almost wasn't able to protect her.
Migi: [ I-I don't even remember what happened... ]
Migi had sulked as everything he had done was just for naught. His face tells everything that I need to know.
And in his eyes, he's just about to give up.
The School Festival is about to happen in the next two weeks. Until then, I can still make of this situation.
I have to return everything to normal.
Hoshoujo: [ I've called her household for now. I told them that I'll have my bodyguards guard her as well. I also told her mother that I will be willing to escort her to the school and back to her home as well. ]
Mendou: [ Eh? ]
I've just noticed but, Hoshoujo had been on her phone since we all had this meeting. She was able to set up an arrangement where Mayu's mother could accept it.
However, that makes it harder for Hoshoujo and Najimi as she would have to be with her most of the time now.
Okai: [ Whoa? I thought you disliked Nama—I mean Mayu? ]
Hoshoujo: [ There's a difference between dislike and hate. But maybe I do hate her, but that doesn't mean I can't help someone, can I? Besides, she's a member of this club now. ]
With Okai questioning her actions, everyone was somehow in the same boat as him, surprised as she was the first to act.
Najimi: [ That's more than enough. Thank you, Yu——Hoshoujo... ]
Najimi almost called Hoshoujo by her first name, forgetting that Migi and Okai were still in the room.
Mendou: [ ——— ]
The meeting would progress and move forward to the subject of the club, Migi spoke no word as he only leaned forward, depressed and sad after that incident.
He was disinterested in even looking at what we were doing.
And so, I had to do something, again.
**
As our club activities were finished, Migi was left behind as he had let the others go ahead of him.
Najimi had to go home early due to a strict curfew as well as Hoshoujo, while Okai had to go home and tell their servants that their other master would arrive a bit later than usual.
As for me, I had no curfews nor people in the house that would wait.
I only had my pride.
Mendou: [ Hey. Are you going home? ]
At the school gates, I waited for Migi to come. He walked just slowly with his head on the ground.
Migi: [ ——Holy shit. You scared me! ]
Even when you're sad, pay attention to everything around you. You might just get robbed. This is not a joke, that is a literal piece of advice for everyone.
Mendou: [ You do remember that I told you that I'd make you interesting, right? ]
Sometimes in life, when things don't go the way you like them. You have to work for it and suffer.
Right? That's just the natural law, somehow.
But, sometimes, in a world where there is me, that thing called reality is rarely there.
Migi: [ Y-Yeah, but... I don't think that matters anymore. We might not see each other again. ]
Sometimes, there's a lot of dumbass around me that never think. Is this normal?
Mendou: [ You will still see Mayu. What heck do you mean? You guys are in the same club! ]
Migi: [ Her mother called me earlier. ]
Mendou: [———!]
Migi: [ She isn't blaming me, but she was still mad that her daughter was in danger. ]
Looking at Migi's face, his sadness was visible.
Migi: [ News about the gang that arrived here began to spread. There are a lot of them and... Mayu's mother thought that this town isn't safe anymore. ]
From the way he was wording it. I already knew what they meant.
Mendou: [ So, they're moving out... ]
Migi: [ Y-Yeah. After the school festival, at least. ]
This wasn't supposed to happen. Just because the town was riddled by a gang or two, no one should suffer.
That for one, made my hands burn. I didn't care about them before, but now that their mere presence had changed a lot of my friends' lives, that's unforgivable, right?
But, I can't use my magic or strength against humans. I can't fight them.
So, there's only one way that we could go about this.
And you would already know about it.
Mendou: [ Migi. Do you want to bring everything back to normal? ]
I offered my hand, looking at him with a smile.
A smile that was as innocent as an angel, but as cunning as a devil.
