ADRIAN POV
October in New York came with the fall season. A beautiful mix of warm and cool days, few rainy days and beautiful landscapes in city parks. The streets are filled with people rushing to get a cab, people enjoying the fall foliage and taking a walk through New York's most idyllic parks. Anchored by Wall street in the financial district of lower Manhattan, New York city is the best place for a business to grow. Few meters away from the Empire state building in Manhattan housed the company of the Hunt's family. They had moved to New York twenty years ago to expand their company and for better opportunities. Inside the eighty six story building on the street of Manhattan, a man in his late twenties stood, staring out the window in a custom made, hand tailored suit. His assistant came in earlier to inform him about his meeting at two pm this afternoon but he wasn't in the mood to attend any meetings so he had asked her
to reschedule all his meetings for the rest of the day. Surprised, the timid assistant looked at her boss wondering what was going on in Adrian Hunt's head. She has worked here for three years and he never missed a meeting.
Adrian Hunt took a deep breath to calm himself, remembering the conversation he just had on the phone a few minutes before his assistant stepped in. Immediately he picked up the call, he didn't even have time to exchange pleasantries when he heard her say
"She is getting a divorce." It took him a while to understand but he finally did.
"What?, why?" he asked confused
"Do I have to do all the work for you, find out for yourself when you get back here"
This woman was so sure he would go to L.A? Just for her?
"If you fail this time around, I am done helping you."
"Helping me? How are you so sure I will come?" he asked, surprised at her confident tone.
"Just a feeling" with that she hung up on him.
I have never met a more dramatic person. Pamella Mount, She was a force. She is always two steps ahead and it was solely because of her he decided to trade with the Mounts. She has a brain anyone should be scared of.
Is she getting a divorce? The girl I met a year ago was so in love she couldn't see anyone else, myself Inclusive and that said a lot because I am a catch. Even I knew that.
I was in L.A for the first time for business with the Mount family three years ago. I ran into her at their company and innocently asked Pamella about her not knowing their relationship, the cunning woman immediately picked up my tone.
Pamella had warned me off saying her daughter needed to focus since she was still in college. Like I was some sort of predator.
A year ago, when I came back to L.A for a brief meeting, she finally introduced us. She even went as far as inviting me to their house for dinner saying she is trying to get rid of a scarecrow. Penelope had just breezed through me politely and that was it, I am sure she doesn't even remember me, but I remembered her clearly.
Although lacking in the dressing aspect, she was still divine. She had this effort less class that came with her, you could tell she wasn't faking. She was nice to everyone, even the maids. So many thoughts were swirling through my head, it would be pointless to continue with work at this point so I decided to call it a day.
I went straight to the gym after I got home, the treadmill tends to clear my head. I was thirty minutes into it when I got a call
"Hey bro, where are you? Dropped by your office"
"I am home"
"Are you ok?" He sounded surprised, this being the first time I took a break from work during the day.
"Yeah?" I wasn't even sure if I was ok.
"It just seems unlike you."
"I have a lot on my mind, would you come over? I need to discuss something with you."
"Sure, on my way". If I decided to move to
L. A I would need someone to run things up here.
Thirty minutes later I heard the door to the gym unlock. The black Armani suit stood out as he made his way into the gym. He took off his suit, revealing his muscles in the tight fitted shirt and picked up a pair of five kg hex dumbbells.
Deaton, my younger brother, is three years younger than I am. Married and expecting a kid at twenty six, he is very mature and responsible.
"What's up?" He asked after going a few rounds with the dumbbell. He wasn't as fit as I am and lacked sport enthusiasm for a man six feet tall. I stopped the treadmill and sat on the gym floor.
"I got a call this afternoon from L.A"
"And?"
"She is getting a divorce"
"Who?"
"Penelope" It took him a while to understand what I meant, when he did, his eyes widen in recognition. After meeting her three years ago, Dean was the first person I told.
"The college girl you have been crushing on? She got married?" He asked slightly amused.
"Yeah. When I went back last year she was with someone, they got married, now they are getting divorce" I told him.
After getting back to New York, I couldn't tell him the girl I have been dreaming about is a woman in another man's hand. It was too embarrassing.
"Wow…So what do you want to do?"
"I like her. I just don't know if it's enough to move to L.A plus she is getting divorced, she might not be ready"
"What is there to lose?, and no one is ever fully ready" He asked with a shrug. I had nothing to lose except my time.
"You think I should go?"
"You alone can decide that. We can just branch out in L.A if it doesn't work and give you something to lie about" He said with a smile. He was right, I am tired with the constant back and forth with my flings. I want what he has with his wife, someone I could love and spoil to the fullest, I want colours in my life.
"This time, make sure you actually put in effort. It won't be easy bro" He said with a little smile like he was remembering something.
"I know".
I am moving to Los Angeles…
