Chapter 29 - 29

How are you gonna do that when you're trapped in a cave? And what makes you think I'd fall for your lies? You haven't changed a bit."

"Maybe you don't need to know everything about me yet," he said calmly while he slowly walked closer to her. "Maybe you don't need to know everything about this world or even this curse to feel the same way. But I can assure you, you won't regret what you decide to do. I won't let you."

The woman stared back at him with teary eyes and shook her head. "Oh, how you disappoint me, Mr. Bane. How dare you speak to me like that. After all the sacrifices you've made for me and for Gotham!"

She tried to take a step forward, but she quickly tripped and fell onto the ground again. She looked down defeated and closed her eyes.

"What are you doing here?" She asked quietly.

He didn't answer. Instead, he slowly stepped closer to her, placed his hands on either sides of her waist and leaned towards her until his forehead touched hers. He closed his eyes and slowly moved his lips to kiss her gently.

Her response came as soon as his lips brushed hers. As soon as their lips connected, her hand flew up to grip the back of his neck. She pulled him closer, deepening the kiss as he wrapped his arms tightly around her waist, pulling her even closer. Their legs intertwined, making it impossible for her to move.

As he broke the kiss, he rested his forehead against hers as he tried to catch his breath. He stared at her lovingly. Her gaze shifted from his brown eyes to his lips before she suddenly grabbed his shirt collar and kissed him harder. This time, he was the one who broke the kiss, breathing hard, unable to believe that he hadn't done this sooner.

When he finally caught his breath, he whispered something. Something that wasn't meant to be heard by anyone else but her. "I'm sorry." He repeated quietly.

Before he could fully process what just happened, she pushed him against the wall and pinned his body against it with her knees pressed firmly against his hips. Before he could regain his composure, she placed her hands on the wall above him, using them to pull herself higher up as her fingers tangled themselves in his hair. Their lips crashed against each other again as her tongue swirled around in his mouth. This time it was his turn to gasp in surprise as his heart skipped a beat. He grabbed onto her hair and held her close to deepen the kiss.

After some time, he broke the kiss again, taking in several deep breaths. "You still need to rest."

She nodded hesitantly, then buried her face into his neck and hugged him tightly. She stayed like this for a few moments before she reluctantly loosened her grip on him, but she kept one hand wrapped around his neck, stroking his cheeks tenderly. "Just promise me one thing?"

"Anything. What is it?"

"Never leave me alone like that again. Please."

"Alright, I'll do my best. If anything happens, though, promise me you won't hesitate to call me out. I'll rush right to you. I promise you." He assured her as he squeezed her hand tight.

She looked up at him with watery eyes. He could see the emotions flashing through her beautiful eyes as she stared into his with so much emotion that it nearly brought him to tears too. But he refused to show any weakness in front of her as a last resort. Not after everything he'd done for her.

She released his hand from her grip and instead cupped his cheek with both of her palms. "Thank you for coming back to me."

"Always. You're stuck with me now. Forever." he replied with a gentle smile as he placed one hand on top of hers.

She gave him a warm and loving smile. "Yeah...Forever." With that, she pulled his head down and lightly kissed him on the lips. She pulled back from his embrace and smiled sadly. "Take care, Jay."

He couldn't help but stare longingly at her. Everytime he saw her like this, he couldn't stop thinking about how lucky he was. A girl he'd fallen so madly in love with, someone whom he'd sacrificed everything for, had chosen him. She had been willing to risk her life just so he'd stay alive. He felt like an idiot and couldn't stop smiling from ear to ear. Suddenly, he had a terrible realization that perhaps all of this had been worth it. She'd forgiven him, and he hadn't needed to die. And although there was still so much left unanswered between them, he couldn't wait to start rebuilding everything that they had destroyed. He wanted them to begin anew and to build a better future than the one they had had.

"I promise I won't leave your side for even a moment. You'll never be alone again, and neither am I."

"Promise you'll never leave me like that ever again? Ever?" she repeated softly.

"I promise. For sure. Never again. Not until I see you smile again and laugh like you used to." He smiled.

"Don't worry, I promise I'
