Everyone's gone. Sam left with Nate's brother. Dan left with Laura. Heath left too. I think Vic went along with Nate and his brother. Hiro, Kris, Jay? I think they left too. It's just me in school. Kai didn't want to give me a healing crystal because he didn't want me going on missions.
I miss them. Especially Sam. I have nothing to do. Not that I can do anything right now. I'm hungry. But I can't move. This isn't like a hospital, I can't press a button to call a nurse. In fact, no one really checks up on me. Maybe Kai told them not to see me.
Sam left at noon I think. And now it's sundown. The sun's really pretty from the window. Pink skies. Wonder how that works. I stared out the window for five minutes. Another five, then someone knocked on my door. They then opened it and entered before I could say anything. It was Kai, he was holding a healing crystal. He tossed it to me and I caught it. A little too eagerly. "Heal yourself, then meet me on the field."
I nodded in response. He left and closed the door behind him. I lifted my shirt, channeled light to the crystal, and shined the light on my wound. Through the bandages. The ones like tape. Just a small patch. Then I ripped off the bandage without thinking twice. It hurt. A lot.
I got up and left the infirmary. I walked to the field. I had a feeling I should save my strength. Kai was standing there waiting for me. Then I jogged to him. I stood three feet away from him.
"Volta, how're you feeling?"
"Better."
"Do you know why I brought you here today?"
I shook my head. What could have he brought me here for?
"There's a war coming, Volta. And I want you, as well as all of your friends, to make it through it."
"A war against... What?"
"Bad sorcerers."
"What should I do?"
"I'm maxed out. I can no longer be faster. I can't surpass my top speed anymore."
"Why?"
"Coz, I did it wrong."
"How?"
"Do you know how to be the strongest?"
"No, not really?"
"You either have to have a strong conviction or no belief at all and disregard all else."
"Which one are you?"
"Neither. I lived carefreely. But not enough that I disregarded other people. I didn't have a goal either. Now, I got older and can't surpass myself."
"Okay, but what do you want me to do?"
"I want you to SURPASS me."
"Oh, okay."
"...That's it? No... Nothing?"
"I was already enroute to beat you."
"Oh, great. Let's play tag."
Tag? Oh, I think it's the one where I have to touch the other people. "You're it, Volta." Kai said. I reached out to Kai and he dashed away so far. All the way across the field. I cast "Light Amplification" and start running at his direction. The moment I reached him, he was already gone. He moved back to where he was. I couldn't even see him moving. I can't track him! I chase hik again and he dashed away again. It was like this for half an hour. My speed right now is Mach 1 because I didn't had a sudden stop. I kept running. But, it seemed vain. I couldn't catch up to him.
Then he purposely slowed down and made me chase after him like a goose. "What's wrong? I thought you were gonna surpass me."
I stayed silent. U slowly grew frustrated at this tag game. "Don't let loose. Go to your roots. Remember everything."
Remember everything? What did he mean by that? I have a pretty good memory, and nothing seems like it would be useful right now.
"Becoming numb then indifferent then apathetic. It shut off a part of your brain subconsciously. Why? You have to know what the trigger was!"
I think Dan said that before. So, is he talking about my trauma? I can't remember. But I have to. How do I do that? Back then in the caves, Shujin shocked my head, then I started to have feelings. So... Maybe...
I stopped in my tracks. Dispelled my amp. Charged electricity to output on my right palm.
"On your left ear. At the hippocampus of your brain."
Okay. Here I go. I shocked myself. It hurt. It hurts a lot. My vision was blacking out. My knees grew weak and I dropped to the ground. I was knocked out.
