Yongli Luen paced back and forth near the bed as the physician examined the patient. He held her slender wrist in his hand as he took her pulse. "Strange," he said as he gently replaced her hand beside her body and covered her with the light blanket. The fever had raged for three days while the young woman drifted in and out of consciousness.
