The stories of large flying beasts such as dragons have always fascinated many, dragon slaying was knighthood highest calling and this was thus, what most tales were about, a hero or noble knight going to defeat a creature for a variety of different reasons.
This fixation on dragins on particular led to most calling a dragon anything that was both big and flying, so when a flying creature, so large that it covered the sun, so large that the flapping of its wings blew clouds away and even caused downstreams of wind to befall the earth beneath it, people said a dragon was there.
Due to its immense size, the creature was spotted from multiple locations every time it appeared, the so-called dragon had not done anything other than fly around but many were already on their way to slay it, simply because it had the rough appearance of a dragon according to what people were saying.
Large and winged was a very lacking description, dragons ranged from all sizes and some didn't even have wings but it was too late, for most, it was a dragon now and the dragon slayer wannabes were now after its head.
The fact that many didn't come back at all didn't come as a surprise as they were up against a dragon, the ones that did simply gave up on the search due the difficulty to maneuver the area.
Indeed, the dragon was said to reside in a large, hollow mountain, one filled with harsh winds and tricky terrain that could have you drop to your death for blinking a bit too much.
This continued for a while before the dragon actually did something, it flew over a populated city and using its wings, caused a tornado to form, destroying the city and killing many.
It was then that the dragon hunt went up a notch.
Professionals were hired to take down the mighty being that was the dragon, adventurers got involved as they always did and a one with the title of hero also joined in, by all account, this should have spelled the end of the flying lizard but there was a small issue.
As the group traversed the harsh enviromment of the hollow mountain with relative ease when compared to the previous clowns who had attempted the same thing as them and traversed a great distance, they had arrived before the dragon's nest and upon entering the large opening in the wall, they had all come to the same conclusion.
Which was that people really had no idea what a dragon looked like as what was facing them, standing on a pile of various rocks and bones, had barely any draconic feature, it looked more like an enormous harpy to them really.
A pair of fleshy wings with claws at the end of them, testifying of former claws, a humanoid face without any features, the face was perfectly smooth and a humanoid body for the rest too, despite the mountain of remains of things and people who most certainly served as its dinner at some point, the monster appeared extremely thin.
The creature's head split open down the middle, revealing a fleshy interior, filled with countless teeth, it let out a powerful scream, causing a few people to straight up drop dead or to die and still stand up for a few moments, the death had been incredibly fast, the others had managed to protect their ears and body from the sound wave.
The monster took flight with a single flap of its wings, sending a few people of their feets due to the heavy wind movement, the area they were in was underground but there was still plenty of room for it to fly around and with the lack of lights, its position wasn't easy to determine.
It let out other screams from the darkness, making the sound bounce of the walls, attacking without revealing its position, however, despite the success of its attacks as it managed to kill a few more people, it stopped its screaming and everything was left in silence, the fact that this beast could fly around with its size and not produce a sound was worrying, why would it be so stealthy with its size? There was no need for it to hide, it certainly possessed the strength to fight head on as proven by the wind pushed with a single movement of its wings.
Tension grew higher as the group composed of great and powerful individuals had no idea how to deal with this situation, running away seemed tempting but the monster was sure to block their way if they did so or burst their brains and ears from the cover of the dark.
Soon, the hero proposed himself to take its attention while all the others took this chance to run away, there was an emotional moment between him and his group, which was entirely composed of women for some reason and he stepped forward using a skill to make himself a beacon, not a beacon of hope but a beacom for the monster to rush toward and at least, the hero's skill funtionned as the monster landed right in front of him, causing a great deal of dust and rocks to shower the hero, the others did as planned and ran away.
"Vile beast! This is where your reign of terror over the skies end!" the hero was lucky the monster couldn't laugh at him for that and the monster was lucky it couldn't be killed with cringe, none of the words he spoke made sense, it hadn't ruled over the skies at all and also the rythm was all over the place.
The hero charged an attack, aiming to bring the monster down in a single hit but the monster had no interest in seeing the result of the attack and powerfully flapped its wings, it didn't move any centimeters despite the gust of wind that was sent forward, the sound of which only came a few seconds afterwards, as for the hero, he had been reduced in a could of very fine drops of blood.
Not wanting to let the others escape, the monster flew up, breaking through the walls to appear right before them and repeated the action it had done at the city except much faster, causing an immense storm to rise from nothing else but its own movements, the winds crushed bones and peeled flesh, leaving nothing of consequence behind.
Realising that these were the first of many, the monster chose to take the initiative and flew away, ready to repeat again and again its destructive actions, it had first wanted to go slowly and test itself but as it seemed like it wasn't going to be possible, it would do that but not slowly, it would go as fast as possible.
