Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Amber Eyes

The girl forced her eyes to flash sensing a little movement. Her view was obstructed by the black-haired man with dark eyes.

"Are you wearing perfume?" At her unexpected question, the young man finally regained his senses from shock.

"No. Are you kidding? Why should I?" He removed his hand and was about to step back but before he could do that, he was yanked back.

"Smells like a cool water." The other nonchalantly said before releasing her grip on his clothes. He was so astounded that it took a moment before he could control his voice.

"You should avoid doing this kind of thing. By the way, your eyes..." He unintentionally changed the topic because he was still shocked to the core. Instead of the girl's natural brown eyes, he was met with strange yellow eyes that resembled amber. He thought it was too beautiful.

"Why are you hiding it? Even using lenses…" Eugene questioned her, the look on his face showed nothing about his emotions.

"I look like a monster when I'm in the dark." Dani stated simply in a humorous tone.

"It's not ugly." Eugene denied it immediately.

"I'm kidding. Well, it's such a rare color. Imagine how much trouble it is if people saw me like this."

Dani made a perfect excuse, not bothered to remember the real reason why. But Eugene, who knew her for these past two years, knows that Dani didn't even care about how people see her. Still, he said nothing.

"But why are you here? You guys already treat this like your own house and yet you still want to invade my room?"

Eugene took in his surroundings. From what he can see, the room is still as it was from what he could remember. Dark and gloomy.

Except for the bed, he can see the dust as if nothing in the room has been touched for a long time. He sighed, his forecast having come true. He already expected this girl to forget about their planned trip. It happens every single time.

"We have a trip today, remember? That's why I'm here. Let's go together." He wanted to flick her forehead but seeing her sudden annoyed expression, he withdrew his hand.

"It's better for you guys to go alone."

"Why are you so against this time? Back then, even when you had forgotten, you would still join us. And I think you really need some fresh air. Your room is literally oozing with bad energy. It's giving me goosebumps." Eugene saw Dani rolling her eyes at his remark. But it's true, when he entered here, he rubbed his arms repeatedly from the coldness of this room.

"It's boring. I will only ruin the mood and I don't feel like swimming at all. And you know, I hate crowds."

Hearing her complaints, he chose his words, trying to persuade. "But this is going to be our last trip before we enter college. We should all go together."

"Hah!" Dani scoffed at him as if she already knew the outcome of this. "I bet you're going to drag me literally if I refuse, right? That's why you're here."

"No, you're mistaken; the kids wanted to drag you out there, but I promised that I'd persuade you, that's why I'm here." At his reply, Dani looked at him with annoyance but he just shrugged.

"Fine. Just wait."

"Be fast. They're waiting at the station."

At his order, Dani's face slightly crumpled.

"Damn, I knew it! And you know... I hate it more when people rush me."

He laughed at her exaggerated reaction and muttered, "Whose fault is it for waking up late?"

And as if she heard it, Dani pointed the door to him with her chin. "Now, get out."

•••

I sat down at the desk, looking at my own foreign eyes reflected by the mirror. He saw it, he saw it... And now, two years since then, I am going on a trip with the five of them. How did it go like this?!

Thinking like this, I couldn't help but chuckle. Because of that vivid dream, it felt like the world around me change overnight. Sighing, I insanely comb my hair again and again while looking at the slack expression I wore in the mirror. After that, I shoved my head in a hoodie and wore a pants. As I went out of my room, I saw Eugene sitting in the living room. The lights were off, so his black hair gleamed more in the dark. His feet was on my table, looking relaxed. I stared at him.

"Hey, who said you can put your legs on the table? I eat my food here."

So what? He gave me that look and smirked. His temper had always been the same. After our staring contest, he clicked his tongue before furtively removing his legs from the table.

It was spring. The sun showers the trees and grasses greening them up. The breeze was warm and almost pleasant against my exposed skin. But the clouds, on the other hand, are moving quickly. Seeing it, I had a feeling that a change may be coming.

"We're using public train, right?"

"Yeah, why? You don't like it? I can call my driver and arrange a ride if you like..." Eugene mumbled and I interrupted.

"Dude, relax, I'm just asking,"

Will they arrange everything that I want as long as I go along with them? I felt guilty all of a sudden. But I don't like indulging in these feelings, so I decided to change the topic.

"By the way, I remembered when you said that you would personally drive us during our trips. When would that be, huh, Mr. Eugene?"

"You?! Do you really have to mention that?" Eugene frighteningly asked.

It looks like it was really a big blow to his ego. It was because the popular boy who is known for being perfect in the school, failed a driving exam! I couldn't believe it. What really happened to him? He was educated to the best level possible. He is arrogant, resentful of defeat, and possesses an inflated ego.

"I know that I'm great, but stop looking at me like that. I couldn't just concentrate at that time."

Now this is new. Out of all the things that I envied about Eugene, it is his mind to focus and avoid distractions in his surroundings. In other words, he's good at ignoring things, especially people. What is that thing that made him lose his composure?

"I'm just wondering what will happen if it spreads throughout the school?" I laughed naughtily at his face.

"Don't even dare to try that out. You're dead."
