Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Afar from the station, the vibrant hairs already attracted my attention. I watched them with narrowed eyes. There were a lot of people in the metro because it was already afternoon. When I heard someone running in my direction, I took a step back and watched Jun lunged forward out of control. He grabbed nothing but empty air.

"Oh, Dani," he said dramatically to me, "I know you're only holding yourself back because of others, but you shouldn't deny your love for me."

"Better luck again next time." I mocked but patted his brown hair that turns gold under the sun. I noticed that everyone in the subway seemed to be drawn in them. It made sense. How could someone refuse to look at these guys? They all have fancy hair colors that are too flashy to look at. At least wear a hat like Dave.

"Dani!!!"

I think I would be murdered by Belle through suffocation. What words could I use to characterize Belle's transformation over the last two years? Women's beauty is said to peak at the age of eighteen. Looking at her now, it seemed to be true. I wouldn't bother myself to mention her red-brown eyes or her curly red wine hair.

"Anyway, what are you two talking about? You took your time." Jun coolly put his hands on his pockets like he hadn't done any pathetic act a few seconds ago.

"She's mocking me for not having a driving license,"

"I didn't mock you." I immediately denied Eugene in a muffled voice.

"But your tone though."

"Hahahaha. At least you can drive and already at the right age. I envy you." Jun said and then firmly smacked Eugene's back.

"What do you mean by that? Does that mean you cannot?" I asked, reading a heavy tone in his voice.

"It's not that I cannot. But it's more difficult for me."

I wanted to ask what he meant by that, but Jun simply shrugged, so I decided not to pursue the topic.

"But it's not like I'm the only one, right? David also doesn't have it." Eugene complained.

"Why are you including me?" Dave spoke. He pulled his mask down to his chin, showing his lips.

"You know, you looked like a spy. And you still heard me? I thought you were not listening." Eugene pointed to Dave's earphone.

"You guys are too loud."

"Yeah, right, why did you mention him? If I remember correctly, he's not the one who bragged to death that he would personally drive us during our trips. And FYI, he hasn't taken a driving exam yet so he didn't fail either." Belle picked on Eugene.

"What did you say? I swear I'm not going to let you in once—"

I watched the bickering between the two. Like a dog and a cat, they really don't get along well. At first, it was really surprising to me considering the first time I met these two.

"What about boarding the train, right? We're already late guys." Looking at Kenneth's gentle face, I could tell that he was getting annoyed. His face are starting to get scary. Kenneth's personality is like a mother. Caring and very… nagging.

He began nagging us once we boarded the train about how we caused a scene at the station, how we made others uncomfortable, and how we should mind our manners in public. Dave inserted an earpiece into one of my ears. And I easily recognized the music playing. To be honest, I'm not particularly fond of music. It was only because of him that I learned something about it. Because Dave, who rarely speak, becomes overly enthusiastic when discussing his favorite songs and musicians.

"What are you thinking?" Jun asked and then flicked my forehead. Only Kenneth and Jun are standing because of the lack in seats.

I rubbed my forehead, which somehow became a little itchy and answered simply.

"I'm just thinking how we ended up this way."

"Are you still reluctant in this trip? Sorry, we should not have forced you. But you know, without you… I think we'd just get lonely."

His statements caught me off guard for a second. I had realize that not going with them would be really a loss. But to claim they'll become lonely seems implausible because they're always having a good time. Jun, on the other hand, I knew wasn't the type to utter meaningless things. He's an honest person.

"It's not what I'm talking about. What I mean is how I ended up in this group." At my remark, they all got silent before bursting out.

"Hahahahaha"

"Hahahahaha"

What's so funny? I even heard Dave chuckling beside me. I looked at him and immediately turned away.

"Yeah, damn, it was not a good first encounter, wasn't it?" Jun spoke with a hint of amusement.

"Hmm, it left a very strong impression on me," Eugene agreed.

Belle grinned and teased him. "Is it because Dani treated you like an idiot that day?"

Remembering it, I also burst into laughter. "That was his fault for messing with me that time."

"Yeah, Eugene is really a jerk~..." Belle quipped in a sing-song voice.

"Belle, you're starting again." Kenneth nagged her like some defeated wife.

"Okay, okay."

"Well, it's true, but I don't regret it." Eugene directly looked at me. I didn't avoid it.

"Then you're still a jerk as it is," I told him.

"But why are you wondering now? We've been together for two years. Don't tell me you had enough of us?" Jun gave me his signature crooked smile.

Why do you like putting me on the spot? It's because I'd dreamt of our first encounter. But it's not like I can tell them that. But why the hell did I dream about that? It's weird. But it's more weird that I ended up being close to them. We're supposed to be enemies but ended up being friends.

"Oh no! Dani is that true?" Belle seemed to take my silence as a yes.

"Of course not." I answered in a quiet voice.

I'll never get tired of all of you...
