Chereads / Love in the Coffee Shop / Chapter 7 - Chapter 6

Chapter 7 - Chapter 6

I closed the door in the shop and hung the closed card. I didn't lock the door because Mia is still in the kitchen cleaning. As I was wiping the tables the door chimes rang. "Sorry, we are closed," I said, not bothering to look at the person. "We're not here to buy some coffee," The man said, I glanced at the person and saw the twins smiling.

"Oh, what's up?" I asked, stopping what I was doing. I saw Liam holding a case of beer and as usual, Sander is holding a plastic bag full of chips. I rolled my eyes at them and started fixing the table. "Is she in there?" Liam asked. I gave him a questioning look and raised a brow.

"Who's she?" I asked. He cleared his throat and helped me arrange the table. We sat and I slumped my back to the chair. We were opening our beer when Mia stormed out of the kitchen and was surprised to see the twins. "Oh, you're here," Mia said directly to Liam, looking uninterested. "Come and drink with us, sister!" Sander exclaimed, waving his hands in the air and gesturing for Mia to come and sit with us. "Sorry, girl. I have work to do" Mia replied, frowning at him.

"Work? In a time like this?" Liam asked Mia, raising a brow at her. Mia rolled her eyes at him and shrugged. "I'll leave now, I'll call you later Rubi," She said waving her hands and winking at Sander. She walked towards the door and closed it. I've become suspicious of Liam and Mia's relationship. I didn't even know that she and Sander are close now.

"So, I heard you got yourself a boyfriend?" Sander asked and gave me a questioning look. "What do you mean?" I asked him back. "He meant Ax Farrel" Liam butted in. I rolled my eyes at them and began explaining everything that happened between Ax and me.

"So he still doesn't know who you are?" Liam asked, sipping at his beer. "When are you planning to meet him about the alliance?" Sander asked, enjoying himself with the chips. "We are just waiting for them to contact us, that's why Mia left" I explained and Liam mouthed an o.

"What's with you and Mia?" I asked Liam, interrogating him. He shook his head while Sander was trying to stop his smile. "Nothing important," He said, shrugging his shoulders.

We drank and drank until midnight came. Sander kept on throwing up so Liam decided to take him home leaving me to clean again. I cleaned the table and threw the bags of chips. I wiped and rearranged the tables back in their original position. After making that it was clean when the door chimes rang and I looked at who was the person who entered thinking maybe the twins came back but I saw Ax standing there. I was stunned for a second, maybe hallucinating but it is him and he looked tired, seeing that he is still in his suit, he got out of work.

"You're not injured again are you?" I said breaking the silence. He laughed and walked towards me."I was around in the corner when I saw the lights still on," He explained. I didn't try to pry anymore because I already know where he went. "What's up?" I asked.

"Were you drinking?" He asked, sitting on a chair beside the table where I just finished cleaning. "My brothers paid me a visit," I said, making our conversation short. "Why is he here? Did Mia make a mistake and he already knew my identity?" I thought to myself. I kept thinking about his purpose for coming here but couldn't think of anything. I faced him and smiled, "Coffee?" I offered, seeing that he has no plans on leaving soon. "How about drinking those?" He said while pointing at the case of beers. After we finished the case of beers, Liam went and took another case from his car but we didn't manage to finish it. I nodded and sat in front of him. He took one beer, opened it, and handed it to me, then took another one and opened it for himself.

"How's work?" I asked, praying that this awkward atmosphere would be changed. "I talked to someone who is about to be our future partner and hoping to meet him soon to talk about the business" He explained. "That's great" I replied and enjoyed my beer. It seems the negotiations went well, Mia did a great job. I was planning on meeting him tomorrow anyway. I wonder what they asked for. I asked myself. Mia should be calling by now but my phone is dead. I forgot to charge it earlier.

It was three in the morning when we stopped drinking and Ax decided to come home saying that he will visit soon. I smiled at him and said my goodbyes, locking the door to head to bed.

My head was spinning and forced myself to get up from bed. I was not that drunk last night but I got a hangover, remembering that Ax came last time and drank with me, I facepalmed. I thought of many reasons again as to why he went to the shop last night. I took my phone and I grunted that my phone was dead. Right, I forgot to charge it again last night. I looked for my charger in one of my drawers and charged it while I went and took a bath.

I felt refreshed after the bath and wore a black crop top t-shirt pairing it with high-waisted jeans. I chose my black converse and didn't bother combing my hair and let it dry naturally. I got my phone and opened it. A notification popped continuously and it was Mia, the last message she sent me she will be heading straight to the shop and we'll talk. I unplugged the charger to continue charging it in the shop. I went downstairs and looked at the wall clock seeing it was past noon. I still decided to open the shop while waiting for Mia to come. I unlocked the door and opened the blinds so people will know that we are open. As the blinds go up, I see Sander going down his car wearing some sunglasses.

"How's your hangover?" I asked. He slumped his head on the table and raised his hand to show surrender. I laughed and went to the counter to be ready to welcome some customers.

Ax's POV

I kept on thinking of Ms. Wong so I decided to drive past her shop. I don't know why but I entered the shop when I saw the lights on. The smell of alcohol lingered in the air, and I saw her face was flushed, she looked so cute that I just kept on staring at her. She smiled at me and offered some coffee but I saw the case of beer untouched and offered her to drink those. I don't understand why but it is peaceful to be around her. When I saw her trying not to fall asleep, I decided to head home for her to rest. I said my goodbyes and stayed outside until she turned off the lights. After making sure she was okay, I called my driver to pick me up.

The meeting with Bee will be held late in the afternoon and we will be the ones who will be coming to meet them. This person took control of half of the gangs in the city and has a good reputation so I kept on trying to find someone who can deliver the message for me. No one knows his true identity only for the fact that you will talk to someone if you want to meet him. I've been trying to get in contact with him for the past months. They suddenly contacted my secretary when I was at the shop, injured.

I thought that this Bee has a connection with Kaiser but dismissed the thought. People who worked with them said that they don't take sides, they are the kind of people who only believe in contracts. That is why this is a good opportunity for me to take back what Kaiser stole from me. I will make sure that I'll own everything Kaiser has including the assets that he stole.

I cleaned and assembled my gun, slid it to my belt at my back, and wore my blazer jacket. I took my keys and headed toward my garage. I opened the door and started the car. I was supposed to head straight to my office when I decided to visit Rubi's shop for a coffee. The drive didn't take long because there was no traffic. As I pushed the door open, the door chimes rang and I saw her wiping the counter.

"Welcome," She said and raised her head. Her eyes grew big at seeing my face but smiled at the end. "What can I get you?" She asked, giving me her sweetest smile. "Espresso, please" I replied and smiled back at her. I turned my back and headed to one of the tables to wait for my order. Looking at her work fascinates me and she looks beautiful in her outfit for today. I've seen her countless times and she often wore black. It must be her favorite color.

She gives me this feeling that she knows how to fight, she has this mysterious aura around her and I honestly want to get to know her more. I heard the buzzer that was stuck to the table, signaling me that my order is ready. I walked to the counter and took my coffee. I looked behind to check if another customer was coming to order but I saw none. I glanced back at her, "Have a hangover?" I asked. "A little, you?" She asked back. "I'm a heavy drinker," I said and smirked at her. She rolled her eyes and waved her hands, shooing me away. I laughed at her and paid for my coffee. "Thank you," She said and gave me back my card. I said my goodbyes and headed toward my office.

Rubi's POV

Ax left and for a few minutes, Mia entered the shop followed by Liam. I raised my brow and gave them a questioning look.

"Why are you two together?" I asked them.

"We ran to each other on the way here" Mia answered and Liam walked toward the counter. "Can I have a coffee, sis?" He asked while pouting. I grunted at his look and he laughed. "What coffee?" I asked him, smiling. "My favorite death wish," he said looking at Mia.

Mia was looking through the things inside her bag and she didn't notice Liam staring at her. After finding her phone, she walked past Liam and headed to the kitchen. "What's up with you two?" I asked Liam while making his coffee. He leaned into the side of the counter and shrugged. They are hiding something from me. After getting his coffee, thanked me and left. It was obvious enough that he just dropped Mia here.

I waited for the last customer to finish her coffee and leave. I cleaned the table and took the cup to the kitchen. I saw Mia sitting in the kitchen fiddling with her phone looking tired.

"Hey," I said. Walking past her and started washing the dishes.

"They prepared a contract, it's in the envelope. The meeting will be in our warehouse near the space where they leave the broken cars" She said, her voice sounding like there's a problem. I glanced at her to observe and she sighed looking at her phone.

"Time?" I asked. I finished washing all the dishes in the sink and wiped my hands. "The usual," she said. I removed my apron and walked towards where the envelope is. While holding the envelope, I leaned my back on the wall and crossed my arms facing Mia.

"What's with you and Liam?" I asked. Mia's shoulder was raised by surprise. "He dropped you off," I added, hoping that she would spill the beans.

"I'm not even sure if there is something" She replied, looking down at her hands while playing with her fingers. I understood what she already meant by that. Liam is a walking red flag, he did something to Mia for her to think that he likes her, and kept his distance at the end. The usual routine of my brother, I have been scolding him whenever there is a girl barging in here in the shop crying. I rolled my eyes at the thought and focused on Mia.

"Fix yourself and meet me there an hour before the meeting," I said and made my way upstairs to my office on the third floor.
