Chereads / Destined The Mafia's Lover / Chapter 18 - Raven

Chapter 18 - Raven

Raven woke from a full night's sleep and stretched out on Angelo's bed with a smile on her face. The space beside her was cold. She wondered how long she had slept alone.

Her brows furrowed and she checked the time it was still early in the morning.

"Where is my octopus?" She asked jokingly to the empty room. Yesterday she had to admit it was lovely to wake with him spooning her. But she now realised not every day could be like that after all he was a busy man.

She got out of bed and padded to the bathroom but on the way, she heard voices.

Hearing Esther's voice she walked out and towards the kitchenette.

"You think your uncle placed the car bomb. I knew it. Dirty rotten scoundrel." Esther's raised voice could be heard.

"Can you do it?" Angelo asked.

She nodded and Angelo handed Esther something small and black.

"You leave this to me. If that man tried to kill you, I will avenge you myself." She seethed.

"You were injured?" Her voice was soft, and the question barely came out above a whisper.

Both heads snapped in her direction.

Finding her voice, she asked "When?" Again, they both stared at her not answering her questions. She was angry now "How?"

But they both just stared at her before glancing at one another. She could feel her heart pound and her chest was tight.

Had she nearly lost him before they found one another again? She felt sick at the thought.

"Who tried too…?" Her words died and left the question hanging. She could not ask him the rest. Was it even her place she wondered?

Esther walked towards her and placed a gentle hand on her arm, "It will all work out you will see. Now you are back here all will be well."

Esther then walked out of the suit and closed the door behind her.

Silence hung in the air. She got more and more angry the longer he glanced at her not telling her anything. He was in danger… had almost been killed and yet he acted so recklessly.

She was not sure whether she wanted to ring his neck for not telling her of the danger he was in or run to him and hug him and tell him he was the one that had to stay in their suite and not go out.

"La mia alba…"

She cut off his words anger swirling through her veins "Don't." She shouted.

She was too angry she tried to breath, "All I want is answers if you don't tell me the truth I am out of here and I swear you will never find me again."

He stared at her, and she could see he was going to dismiss the danger he was in again.

She held her hands up stopping him as he tried to approach her, "No. No more. Do you not think I miss my parents? If I had known… Do you think I would have pleaded with my parents to take me to the stupid museum if I had known there was danger?"

She took a shaky breath and stepped back again as he inched forward.

"Raven." His voice was steady like he was trying to calm an animal.

She held his gaze fire in her eyes, "I want to know so I am prepared I do not want half-truths or to be kept in the dark anymore. I hid from this world, if you are dragging me back into it I need to know when we are in danger."

Her breaths were coming fast now, and she felt like she was getting dizzy.

Angelo pulled her close and this time she let him embrace her.

"I am sorry my love." His voice was gently, and his arms were warm and comforting against her back.

"You never call me that." She murmured; she drew circles on his chest. It was working he had calmed her raging heart just with an embrace.

His dark chuckle came from above her head.

"You are though, my sunrise and my love. In my dark world I need you my light to be my guide. So, if you need to know the details, I will tell you." He stated.

She pulled away slightly and glanced up at him, "Not just what happened with the car bomb. I need to know in the future too."

Again, she heard his dark chuckle from above, "So can I take it you plan to stay with me always."

She bit her lip, she hadn't said that, but it seemed to be what she wanted.

He stroked her cheek and tilted her head up him, his eyes swirled with amusement.

She huffed and he smiled showing off the dimples she loved.

"Come my stubborn lover." He pulled her to the leather sofa, and he turned her to set her on his lap.

He filled her in on the details of the car bomb and who he had suspected. He was calm as if this was the norm.

She was angry for him, "How can you be so composed while telling me you nearly…?"

Angelo played with a long curl, twisting it between his fingers as he spoke to her, "Believe me I wasn't after it happened. But with you here it is as if peace has been restored."

"Peace?" She questioned.

His eyebrow quirked, "With you now yes, I have peace. Don't get me wrong I am a made man and I do bad things to bad people. But only those who deserve it. I can never be an ordinary man."

"You never where ordinary Angelo and I have seen your wrath before. Remember when that boy pulled up my skirt in school?"

His eyes darkened, "Don't remind me." He seethed.

She rolled her eyes, when they were young any time she was harassed or in trouble it had always been Angelo that was there to help her.

Every time except the time she needed him the most. She had had Rory though. Had she not showed up like an avenging angel she may not have been here now with Angelo.

But she couldn't think of that dark day now.

"What will you do if it is your uncle?" She asked.

His gaze was steady, and he let out a small sigh, "Let's put it this way. You will never see him again."

She huffed out a breath, "Fair enough."

He continued to play with her hair. "What will you do today?"

A change in subject was probably good she thought.

"I will set up my canvases and order one for your painting. Oh! Can I see Rory today?" She asked suddenly excited.

Angelo took out a pale blue phone from his pocket and handed it to her.

"Your new phone. I have added my number, Esther's, Kilian and Luca's. I have to go out." He stated without not embellishing further.

She jumped up phone in hand a smile on her face, she held out her hand and pulled him up from the sofa. "I will be here when you return."
