Chapter 19 - Departure [3]

As Kobi chewed, he realized he could indeed eat the bone easily. Heck, it felt like jelly... but just bland.

Shik gazed at him chewing and muttered, "Be careful though, this skill comes with three effects, you can eat anything. You can stomach anything and your appetite keeps increasing with use."

Kobi blinked his eyes and shrugged, not bothering with the small thing.

Reka's mouth turned into an O.

"So, maid girl Reka, What's this awakened thingy?" Kobi asked plainly, while questioning the system internally, 'So will I get anything else, if I keep eating more of its flesh?'

"Yea, but it's not hundred percent. The first time you eat a new monster meat, you will hundred percent awaken its language.

"After that, if you keep eating the meat from which you gained the language from, you have a small chance to awaken something else.

"Now, if you kill another creature of the same race, for example, if you kill another Silver Wolf, on the first bite, you will have a fifty–"

Kobi frowned, 'Abridge it.'

Shik speechlessly stared at him before pulling up his fingers, 'You get a first time eating perk which gives you the monster langauge. The second time you eat the perked monster, you have a 25% chance to get something. Then the third time you eat it, the chance is in decimals. Now if you eat an unperked monster, your first bite chance is 50% and the rest fall into decinals."

'I see.' Kobi nodded and gulped another small bone, 'But you suck at explaining.'

His eyes shifted to Reka, who stopped giving him a deadpan glare and finally started speaking.

"You don't even know what awakened are, how dare you say you're an awakened?" Reka shook her head.

"This world has various kinds of powers you can progress in, these are called paths, awakened are those who join a path.

"These awakened awaken by digesting the power in monster cores.

"They use the cores to help them form their own cores, specific to their paths.

"The path is generated randomly, varying from person to person.

"There are levels to cores, the higher the level of the core, the greater their path and the more stronger they are.

"And that's... the gist of what I know." Reka summarised honestly.

Kobi blinked his eyes cluelessly, 'System, monster cores!?' He blinked again and asked Reka, "You're an awakened?"

"No way, I can't obtain a monster core, how can I awaken? More importantly, how are you able to eat those... bones? Remembering the arduous fight you had with the silver wolf, you are definitely not an awakened." Reka rubbed her chin, her eyes glittering like stars. "What secret are you hiding?"

"Hahaha! Well of course, what else would you expect from a Saint's relative?" Kobi laughed heartily, wondering if Saint was a path as well.

Shik scoffed, 'I suck at explaining.'

Kobi rolled his eyes, 'I petition to change your settings.'

Shik's lips spasmed, "Monster core! That's a circular object found in most monsters who have reached a certain level. Umm... you can say once a monster breaks past the level 10 and becomes a level 11, which is no easy task, he forms a core, but this rule in not absolute.

"For example, most level 11 monsters might not form a core, their level cap would be higher than most monsters and hence they would require higher levels to form cores and they would be generally stronger. Now, a race has fixed core formations, ignoring special monsters such as those who have additional things in their names like Prince.

"There's another condition but... you might not live long enough to witness it, so let's forget that.» Shik comfily laid down in the air.

"Ho!" Kobi nodded his head. Calmly, while sorting things up, he gulped another small bone.

"Do you honestly feel nothing?" Reka asked in disbelief.

Kobi glanced up and... nodded.

[Congratulations! You obtained one speed stat.]

'Nice!' Kobi felt his body stir for a moment before calming down.

'Status!'

A holographic display appeared in front of him, along with the side tabs that always hovered at a corner of his vision.

Incidentally, Kobi could see the basic stats of the villagers as well, what Reka displayed was- (Village Girl: Level 5) hovering over her head with an Hp bar.

She was the highest level he had seen in the village, besides Jake.

(Name: Kobi Colls

Mp: 20/20

Strength: 14

Agility: 16

Defence: 14

Intelligence: 8

Charisma: 3

'Demomic Will is pretty good!' Kobi smiled... while gobbling a few more bones.

"You haven't seen the best of it yet!" Shik smiled mysteriously.

Kobi blinked his eyes and gobbled more bones, after a while, he couldn't help but ask, 'Shik, aren't you going to mock me?'

Shik blinked his eyes but reading his thoughts, he smirked and replied calmly, "No! You can still gain something. After all, even a miniscule chance is still a chance."

Seeing Kobi's baffled expression, Shik grinned, "But if you so insist, you sorry ass begger. Quit begging for more! Aren't you satisfied yet?"

Kobi's expression twisted, 'Calm down... calm down... your time will come.'

After a while Reka and him started to circle around the village, away from the boundary. Reka killed every thing she saw... which were mostly small lizard, which she called inedible... hence Kobi swiftly gobbled them but didn't get anything beside their tongue.

And he realized the next lizards he met, he could indeed hear their desperate pleas.

After a while, almost about 3 to 4 hours, Reka decided to return and return they did.

As they were walking in the village's main road, Reka spotted Rio playing with his friends and asked Kobi to take him home. Saying she had something to do.

Kobi could only raise a brow as she headed off.

'This girl... she's rather strange! Though I am glad she didn't ask me how I can just make things vanish.' Kobi sighed... he ended up remembering his own sisters.

Walking towards Rio, Kobi asked system something he had already asked hundreds of times, 'System, is there really no other way to go back home?'

"...Look host, for the millionth time, no!"

Kobi bit his lips and forced his nerves to calm. The group of children romping around saw Kobi and swarmed over.

"Saint! Saint! Show us that magic again, pleaseee!" The kids besieged him, making him squat so to match their heads.

"Hahaha! You want to see that again? But tell me first, did you tell anybody?" Kobi inched his face closer to the kids, his face tense like he would be in a pinch if they spilled the secret.

"Uh!" The kids clenched their fists and sneaked at a particular boy,

"D-Did you tell somebody?!" Kobi gulped, scratching his forehead.

The kid clenched his shirt and stepped forward, looking at the ground with eyes quivering in shame, he nodded, "I-I spilled the secret! I-I thought it was very cool, so I wanted it as well! So... so I told God about it and asked him to give it to me as well!"

Kobi's lips spasmed, an urge to laugh overcame him but he presisted, 'KID GOD ALREADY KNOWS!' Sighing at the children's innocence, he sighed, "That's a relief! Listen kids, this is a secret my Grandpa, the one who used to command Saints, told me, he said that if you can't tell something to anybody but you really wanna tell it to somebody, tell it to God! And thank Him for always listening."

"Huh?" Most of the kids frowned, "But... but God doesn't reply and how are you sure that He listens?"

Kobi grinned, "Because God... is the strongest! Nothing is beyond His knowledge, even if you tell Him or not, He already knows!"

"Huh? Th-The strongest? Even stronger than your grandpa?"

"...Yea! He doesn't even need to snap His fingers, He can just will it and there goes my grandpa crying!" Kobi smiled at the amazed expressions of the kids and chuckled.

All of a sudden, a wooden club appeared in his hands, he spun it in his hand for a while, mesmerizing the kids and commanded in a resolute tone, "Let the claps resound kiddos!"

"Hahaha!"

"Yay! Lets go!"
