She took her phone called him but his phone kept ringing but no one picked. She was so frustrated. Blood flowed down her thigh as time wentby. She had no one but herself. She walked called for the maid. She helped her get dressed as they woke the driver up to take her to the hospital
But it was too late by the time they arrive. They could not save the baby. She miscarried. For the whole night that she was in the hospital, he husband never once called back or sent a message.
He came to visit her the next day at 10 am. She was too angry to even look at him. Where was he when she need him? Maybe if he was there, they would've saved their baby
"I am sorry. I was out of town. I came home as soon as we finished only to get the news" He muttered as he held her hand in the hospital be. Both of their parents came to visit early in the morning asking where he was. She had to pretend he had gone for a governorship meeting out of town
My dad knew I was lying. He only looked at me and went away. He was a politician for a long time and knew me well too. At the VIP hospital yet again the same day. He left for work and came to see me in the evening for a few minutes before leaving later that night going home.
She stayed at the hospital for a week before being discharged. That's when things went out of her control. She would cook and wait up late before he came. Sometimes he would eat with her. Sometimes he would come late claiming to be full and had dinner outside. But would he not call to say he was not coming. What kind of a man had she married? He was a completely different
Back to reality. She washed her face and wiped her tears. The four years of her life went by fast. Too many painful moments were covered but with smiles.
She took a shower changed into a new outfit and went out of the bathroom.
Martin was a wake going through his phone while half seated on bed his back on the head of the bed.
" Good morning honey" he smiled greeting her. She stopped on her tracks looking back at him. She was clearly angry at him and he detected it. He put the phone down and walked towards her in his short bare chested.
There was a time she would go crazy seeing his upper body naked but this morning it was different. She felt disgusted
He stood before her stroking her hair. He looked in love just like the many time he did that smiling. "I am sorry for coming hope late again last night. I had lots of paper work at the office and a meeting that ended at 12 in the morning. I didn't want to spend the night at the office and came here as soon as I was done" he explained. What she could've believed back, she found it disgusting and laughable. Is this how she had been fooled all this time?
She didn't flinch and looked at him like a fool. Looking at her eyes. He felt something was wrong. Evelyn just walked away from him nodding her head
He looked troubled. This was the first time since they got married she had not talked to him in the morning.
"There is fire in the mountain" he said under his breath looking at the figure walking step by step away from him. He stood there watching her walk out of the room flabbergasted
Evelyn scoffed walking down stairs. She stood at the dining looking at the dished after dished of food she endured to cook in the kitchen. There was a slight cut she sustained while chopping tomatoes. But it was all for nothing. Tears flowing down her face, she took the plates and dished to the kitchen.
At the top of the stairs, a figure was standing there looking at her taking the utensils and food one by one into the kitchen. He sighed and a tinge of guilt flashed passed his eyes. He didn't have to courage to go down stairs and went back to their room.
Evelyn didn't see him and neither did she know he was remorseful.
She poured all the food in the dustbin and washed the utensils. She prepared breakfast and set them on the table. She didn't bother to call him down to have breakfast like she usually does. She sat down and ate to her fullest before taking her handbag and driving out of the compound. She wanted somewhere she could think
There was too much going on her life. She knew the bodyguards were following behind her. There was no day she left without them following behind her. One was from her husband and other from her father. Though he had retired, he still had power and influence.
She went to the T mall one of the largest and well known mall that socialites and the high in the society visited. With the bodyguards behind her, she shop from stall to stall and gathered the best with her.
The bodyguards behind her helped carry he things.
Shopping was one of the ways of her releasing her frustrations and anger. After driving in the city for a while, she calmed down and went back home.
She thought Martin would've left like he does on most weekend but there he was seated in the living room reading a newspaper. As soon as she opened the door, he smiled placing the papers down. He had worn a white short, white sneakers and a black t-shirt. He was casual and relaxed
" You are back?' he asked walking towards her. He knew he had gone overboard for the last few years but he really liked her. Yes he had to admit he never loved her when they got married and he used her.
But the last four years of being together had swayed his heart he tried to keep his feelings to himself but not any longer. He wanted to show her how much he cared.
What he saw in the morning broke his heart. He could only imagine how much she had to endure because of him
