Chapter 29 - BONUS

ʕ•ﻌ•ʔ AKEMI ʕ•ﻌ•ʔ

Just a day after their case on Christmas Eve Akemi's skin burned throughout the night. Her breath coming out in pants as her nose was clogged and made it hard for her to breath.

She hated it when she got sick. Every time she did, something awful would join in.

Akemi laid on her queen sized bed, human-sized windows on the side of her walls that opened to their balcony all draped and covered by dark blue and white curtains decorated and painted with lavender flowers. A huge room all to herself, Akemi felt vulnerable.

Especially when it is hard to keep her guard up with her mind fogged and body tired, Oliver could only do much by laying beside her to keep her company— one of it was to assure her she was still with the living while her guard, Kikyo isn't present at all due to her already being inside the walls of her house (ehem— mansion— ehem).

Akemi let out a whine when her eyes opened just slight to see two dark shadowy figures standing at the corner of her room. A sad presence around them,

Akemi realized that the more she accepted and used her abilities—not that she can turn it off— the more she felt attuned to the spiritual side. As if she was actually meant to be there, urging her to come home.

With a shaky breath, Akemi closed her eyes and pulled Oliver closer to her heat. His tensed body growling at the shadowy figures due to his heightened senses but not as heightened compared to Akemi, who is highly sensitive or Masako, who is a psychic.

'It seems those spirits have great enough energy for even Oliver to sense them...' Akemi thought before frowning, '-or perhaps they are using mine...'

As if to congratulate her, Akemi felt even more weak as the two presence moved to stand beside her bed. Akemi didn't look, but she did feel the familiar raise of her senses.

"Akemi..." In the back of her mind, Akemi heard her name being called. It broke her heart to hear those voices and shut her eyes tighter and willed— begged somewhere inside her mind to leave her alone. Pleaded her abilities to help her— to be on her side for once.

It was hard to differentiate any feeling when it comes to her abilities, especially when Akemi feels so weak but the sudden ability of being able to breath came so shaky from her mouth. Oliver's growl hardened and more aggressive as Akemi felt something touch her forehead.

A hand.

And soon she felt cool, her body relaxed and Oliver's aggressiveness blurred on her ears as Akemi's surroundings changed.

She was on a familiar road yet not completely familiar.

Beside her was carnage of a broken red car, flipped upside down so it showed its bottom while shards of glasses surrounded the car— smoke coming out of it with a woman inside the passenger seat, blood streaming down her forehead as she begged for the words 'stop' and 'help'.

But Akemi heard it as if she was underwater.

Before Akemi could determine who the woman was she looked away with a choked sob. She felt scared inside this vision.

And it turns out she wasn't alone as a body stepped closer to her and she flinched— whipping her head to see a tall blonde man with hands lifted on his sides as if one move depended on him.

It worried Akemi how the man stood a few steps away from her but his gaze didn't seem to be on her but behind her; the woman stuck on the flipped car also wasn't looking at Akemi. Like what Akemi did on the woman on the passenger seat, she avoided their gaze before she could determine their faces until a sobbed was let out.

It wasn't Akemi's but came somewhere close behind her.

She turned and gasped, seeing a little girl close to 5 or 6— Akemi wasn't sure but she knew the girl was a child.

A child being held at gun point and choked by a foreign man. Akemi frowned at the sight because this time she looked at the dangerous man but his face was all blurred either meaning he was still alive in the real world or that whoever owns this vision also couldn't tell the man's face when it happened.

The little girl in his hold, facing Akemi and the other two people that Akemi figured was dead due to being clear on her sight (or because whoever owns this vision knew of the people around except for the foreign man.)

Akemi shook her head, something inside her pushed her to believe that those two people behind her was already dead.

Another whimper came out from the little girl, her eyes filled with tears as her white fragile skin was blemished with scratches and blood— another streamed down her forehead. Her blonde wavy locks all tangled and gripped tighter by the foreign man.

He spoke, and the blond man behind her that Akemi guessed was the little girl's father spoke back— trying to get his daughter back quick to also help the mother currently trying to get out of the car but the foreign man pushed the nuzzle of the gun closer to to the little girl's head, making the little girl freeze and filled her eyes with tears.

However, none slipped her cheeks— wanting to be brave for the man staring at her with concern. Akemi sadly smiled at the sight of the girl's assurance despite being held at gun point.

In this vision, Akemi couldn't hear well— the only sound she could make of were the beating hard of a heart that Akemi couldn't tell who it belonged to and a slight ringing on her ears that made it difficult for her to hear the voices of the people around her.

"It's okay..." Akemi straightened, seeing the father gaze at his daughter with warmth before everything paused and the two shadow figures stood in front of her but Akemi turned to not look at them. She couldn't look.

A hand on her should made her flinch.

"Let go..." This time a woman's voice spoke. "It's okay..." A man spoke beside the woman.

"AKEMI!"

With a startled start Akemi woke up, her fever long gone and so did the Shadow figures. Oliver remained on her side, licking her face as soon as she woke but when the dog felt his owner's troubled feelings he nudged her face and Akemi wrapped her arms around the golden retriever.

Tears filled her eyes but none slipped her cheek.

ʕ•ﻌ•ʔ LIN NARU ʕ•ﻌ•ʔ

"Naru have you checked up with— what is that?" Lin paused, watching as Naru straightened his back and delicately hid the paper in his hand. Feign innocence in his passive face.

Of course, it wasn't weird that Naru held a piece of paper because that sight was pretty common for Lin and the others but the paper Naru held was quite larger than normal, it seemed different as well— wider and originally made for art.

Lin has visited Galleries and at times draw to himself for some peace whenever he has the time of solitude. He has an idea of art, so he would know. Other then the fact that Akemi's college friends flaunted it everywhere back in the Cannibal Case so the sight is quite familiar.

"It's nothing you need to know," Naru dismissingly said, turning his hand to successfully hid the paper from Lin's sight— going straight back to the situation at hand, pertaining to Lin's reason of checking his room. "What is it, Lin?"

"...I was just gonna say the Professors called again," Lin watched as Naru let out a sigh, raising his hand to massage the temples of his head like he would on a headache. If Lin didn't know any better Naru might just actually be having a headache.

And he was not going to judge.

"Tell them I'm busy and would call them later when I have the time..." Naru is too focused on work so even if he did, he might not actually be able to call them back.

Lin tried his best not to wince, or physically express the gesture knowing that with the Professors' temperament— no matter how patient and loving— would give Naru no kind of mercy once he speaks to them in the phone. Especially the Mrs.

"I'll go ahead and tell them..." Lin turned his back, trying to control the amusement on his lips as he closed Naru's door. 'Maybe I should inform them about the girls at the Office...particularly her...' Lin liked that idea. He absolutely loved the idea.

And so he went to inform the Professors to appease their worry. He rarely sees Naru this flustered nor affected, it's only natural that Lin share this experience with his parents which he would later find either an amusing entertainment or worsen the situation as the Professors now continued to call every minute to ask about the 'people' Naru worked with.

Internally on his head, Lin asked for forgiveness in advance as he looked back on Naru's closed door, knowing about the glacial eyes that he would receive once Naru finds out.

Lin might not show it, but despite being inside his own office throughout the day, he can hear what the others say back at the main room. And the girls talked a lot.

Lin ended the call with a quick farewell, unaware that the moment he pressed the red button Naru received a message on his phone.

Naru left her on read, his face inexpressive as he read her message. A few times more than he'd like to admit until his phone buzzed once more and he turned to lift it up.
