Chapter 2 - Artificial Energy Core

Quest: Artificial Energy Core Trial

Request: We are finding a suitable vessel for this revolution experiment where we can just artificially make an energy core which would benefit the 20% population of the world.

Quest Condition:

1.The participants should not have any energy core.

2. Participants must be at least 18 years old.

3. The participants should have a strong body and be devoid of any kind of disease.

Trial Location: Eastern Research Facility of Penia

Quest Reward: 100,000 inferior energy stones

Time: 3 p.m. on December 31, 2901.

Maximum number of participants: 67/100

Von cannot believe what he is reading. In his whole life, he thinks that there is no way for him to achieve his goal without having an energy core.

But here, he now has an answer to his wish. Von feels like God took pity on him and granted him a big opportunity that may change his whole life.

Von turned his gaze at the last remark of the quest. The number keeps changing from 67, 68, and now it has become 89.

He wakes from his dazed expression when he sees this remark. He immediately takes action, not realizing the consequences he may receive from this quest.

Von bit his right thumb finger lightly until a bead of blood oozed from it. His blood begins to drip onto the aged paper.

He tore the ancient-looking paper into four quarters. After that, the torn pieces seemed to be emblazed by a bright purple flame. The flame engulfed the papers, and they immediately turned to nothingness.

"Buddy!"

"Yohoo, Vooon!"

Von heard a loud outcry. It is coming from the big man that comes from his backside. The guy continues to advance without caring about the other person's reaction.

Von faces the incoming person with a stiff expression. The big person seemed to want to hug him, his arms wide open and with the look of an idiot on his face.

But Von swiftly evaded his advancement; after that, he immediately counterattacked the big man.

He stiffened his right leg and, using half of the force he can exert with his body, Von released a fairly fast kick on the big guy's torso.

"U-urk! What was that, buddy? " The big guy hardly said a word while suffering from the damage he had received.

"Just saying hello!" jests Von.

"What the heck?" "You even know how to joke now?" "Geez" The big guy straightened his back and faced Von

He studied Von and asked, "Did you also accept that quest?"

"What quest?" Von innocently asked back.

Von knows what the big guy is referring to, but Von refrains from revealing that. He wants to see more of the big guy's irritated expression.

"Come on, dude! The quest about the trial! " "Did you accept it or not?" he said in a pissed tone.

Seeing Jax start to lose his composure, Von dismissed his thoughts of tormenting the big guy.

"Of course! I accepted it. God gave me an opportunity to become a supreme human. "I will not give up this chance," Von replied with a yearning tone, even though he thinks that the experiment is not credible enough to gamble with his life. Von can't do anything but accept.

As a child who was abandoned by his parents due to his lack of an energy core Von dreams of having an energy core the most.

Given a chance to achieve that, he can't let it pass. He would grab every opportunity he could, even if it cost him his life.

"Do you think that the trial can be successful?" Jax silently asked Von. He knows Von the best. He is not doing something he can't be sure of.

Von seriously gazed at him. "Should I tell him the truth?" He thought inwardly.

Honestly, Von thinks that the experiment can't have a 90% success rate.

Although Eastern Research Facility is a large corporation that has the backing of one of the great families of the Eastern region, this does not change the fact that Penia City is the home of people who do not care about the livelihood of others.

Moreover, the money they can earn for this quest cannot total the amount of fortune they would get in a year's time by doing risky missions. They are offering such a large sum of money, who can't be enticed by such an offer?

Especially to ordinary people who live their lives being looked down upon. They can't cast away this opportunity to become strong.

Von decided to stay quiet. All of his thoughts were just speculation, with no concrete proof.

"I don't know if it could be successful, but I think their research has a good result. They must be looking for a suitable individual to survive their experiment based on their requirements," Von frankly said to Jax.

In a matter of fact, he didn't want Jax to join on this risky quest. He and Jax were best of friends. Von is very familiar with his situation because they have known each other for over ten years.

When Von is being bullied by another street orphan, this big man stands up for him even though they were unaware of one another's existence. Though Von seemed cold and barely talked to Jax, he considered him a friend. Despite the fact that they are not blood relatives, Noah and Jax were the people he considered close relatives.

"You can still back out of the quest. We can't be sure of the outcome of this experiment. It may cost our lives," Von solemnly said. This is the only thing he can do for now, giving him this advice.

Jax heavily sighed, "You know, dude, I can't give up. I don't want to pull out. At the same time you want the strength to get out of this place, I have a person I want to protect. "

Jax patted Von's shoulder. "Let's meet at the front of the organization later. Maggie and I have things to do. "

Von can see the happiness in his eyes while he utters the name of his girl. Miss Maggie and Jax have been in a relationship for about 2 years now.

After their interaction, Von started to walk out of the building. He first heads to Miss Maggie, who is on her break. He saw Jax accompanying her. It seems like they're talking about a serious matter, which Von can guest.

They must be arguing about the matter concerning the experiment, and in order to not disturb their heated conversation, Von chose to not butt in, not bothering to ask about Noah.

Initially, he wants to ask Maggie about it if Noah comes by, but he refrains from doing so.

So he steadily headed out and began to walk to the antique shop of Sir Liam. which is only a kilometer away from the ten-story building of the organization.

He reached the place after ten minutes of moderate walking. There he saw a run-down two-story shop. The facility looks old and there in front, Von can see a damaged store name plate.

"Elysium Antique Store"

The stroke of the calligraphy looks rough, which makes the words much more emphasized and appealing. From the looks of it, Von guessed that this must be the writing of a famous scholar.

Von walks inside the store. There was a collection of different kinds of antiques that greeted him.

"Sir Liam? Noah, are you here? " Von increased his voice lightly. He patiently waited for a minute, but there was no one around.

"It seems like Gramps is not here yet," Von concluded.

"Noah didn't seem to be here either; where did that boy go?"Von sighed.

He wandered his gaze around. Von saw the distinct antiques that were all over the place.

The antiques are arranged according to their size and category. When a person gets inside, the first thing that attracts the attention of most people is the big, ancient-looking table. In there they display many kinds of vases, cauldrons, and statues that look very old in Vons' eyes.

"These must be objects that come from an old civilization," Von inwardly thinks.

On the side, there is furniture with shelves that is used for storing books. Von picks up the closest to him.

"History of Human Evolution, Volume 1"

The book that Von picks gives the smell of a new release, but he remarks that it must be over a century old. The design and papers used to make it appear to be something out of the ordinary.

Von flips the books to the first page. He read it quietly.

"The human race's ability to evolve comes from the non-physical essence, which is known as the soul." It is said that the souls of the human race are the purest form of energy in the Primordial Realm---" Von suddenly stopped reading the book when an old and short old man came and swiftly grabbed the book from his hand.

"This is not a book you ought to be reading, young man." The elderly man's voice is deep and intimidating,
