Amaterasu POV.
My name is Amaterasu Wrenways, born in the noble Wrenways Family. Ever since my childhood, my brothers have always been envious of me. Maybe because of my strength that did not require much training?.
I remembered being considered as a genius of my generation when I was twelve. I had strength comparable to that of a Rank A adventurer. My father even sent me to the academy in order to celebrate this event.
The Kingdom I was born in was modest in size, so I was able to enter the Academy thanks to my good grades.
My life at the Academy was focused on training and researching new spells.
When I turned fifteen, I was recommended to join the Research Team. Their goal was to manipulate the Mana of the Gods.
In this world, there existed several types of mana, but they were all variations of the mana used by the Gods. This Research Team believed that we could manipulate such mana if we studied it enough.
I was not entirely convinced by this approach but I required help with my grades, so I decided to accept.
At eighteen, I was considered the strongest in my generation, which made people even more jealous, though I had dealt with this kind of thing my entire life, so I didn't care.
The Research Team was composed of twenty people, including me. We were divided into five groups, each led by one of the Professors.
We would gather together every day for discussions about our research, then go back to our individual rooms to work on our own projects.
For example, my group was studying the effects of the Mana used by the Sun God.
For this, we were required to create a device that would allow us to draw the mana from the sun.
This wasn't an easy task, since the mana itself in general was very powerful and dangerous.
If we approached too close, there was a risk of being burned alive.
For this project, it took us two years to create the first prototype, and another three to perfect it.
Once complete, we moved to create a second prototype, which we tested using animals as subjects.
As one could imagine, the results weren't that great.
We lost most of them. The few that survived were under the aftereffects of pain.
When I was twenty, I graduated from the Academy and returned to my Kingdom, only to find that all that was left of the castle which I called home were ruins.
Since I had been sent away from the Kingdom when I was very young, I had little regard for it or my parents, but this scene definitely made me angry.
I was not aware of the method to seek revenge, let alone the target of my revenge, so I decided to scourge through the darkest corners of the continent.
After a year, I discovered that the neighboring Kingdom was the one to initiate the attack for economic reasons.
Although I was capable of attacking this kingdom, I decided to wait. If I was blinded by the thought of revenge, I would have to deal with many people. This revenge was more of whim rather than anger that blinded most avengers.
I spent a year gathering enough information that would help me launch an attack on this Kingdom, and finally, the day arrived.
Using everything I had gathered, I brought down an entire Kingdom from the inside out. Not a single soul was left alive. And this was how I earned the moniker of Demon Queen.
My title made it impossible for me to work honestly, so I decided to proceed with it and waged war to conquer, like an actual Demon Queen.
In this process I conquered the lands, but something felt missing— something that would move my heart in a way I felt never before, that short pinch of nervousness and pounding excitement. It was love. Throughout the years, I never experienced love, I mean, I never found anyone worthy of my love.
The worthy candidate had to be a person capable of defeating me, this was the conclusion that I reached after pondering about the issue deeply.
Many tried for years, but none were capable of offering even a good fight.
Their antics would bore me and thus I would always punish them for this with something or other.
It was then, in the past few years, a boy that moved to the vicinity of my Kingdom, not a Kingdom but more like my house, ah whatever. At first, I thought he would die within a few months, but he seemed to be strong and resilient even after a long time.
I decided to test him as I sent one of my subordinates to fight him. The result was definitely something that I had been waiting for. That boy was able to kill my subordinate with ease. It was then I realized, my search was finally complete. I had stumbled upon my soul mate and that too he was my neighbor.
Though there were signs, I decided to keep observing him for a while longer, I had to be certain of his strength.
With each passing day, I grew more and more obsessed with him, until the day finally arrived when I could reveal myself.
One fine day in the morning, I saw the love of my life heading into the forest. Obviously, I followed him until I saw him talking to a group of people that seemed like Heroes.
He tried to keep his spirit light, however, a greedy Hero seemed to have attacked him. In the end, they were all the same, greedy and proud.
My love didn't even have to make a move, his pet dog defended him. Although it wasn't really necessary, she did well, considering her kind.
A/N (She doesn't just hate Stella's people, she hates everything that is not the protagonist and her.)
The fighting continued until an elderly man challenged my darling to a fight. If I were not so ashamed, I would have killed him right there and now.
At the time, I wasn't aware that this person was someone I knew, but he was definitely one of the people who had challenged me. As punishment, I even ripped his arm off.
My prediction seemed spot on, the fight was settled within two minutes as everyone went to Adam's house.
Once I noticed everyone leaving the house, I decided to make myself known.
I directly approached Adam but when I saw the old man's figure, I subconsciously released my bloodlust. This led to a battle which I didn't regret because for the first time ever since my birth, I was defeated by the man I love.
