Chapter 5 - Awakening

After eating, Leo took out the Mana circulation technique from his Inventory. To instantly learn the skill or technique from the scroll one has to hold it for a few minutes or circulate Mana into it. If one of the two actions is completed the Technique / Skill will be planted in one's mind, but the scroll will be destroyed in the process.

Leo, who still had no mana, took the scroll to his hand and held it tightly as if someone was going to steal it. After a few minutes of waiting a sharp pain assaulted Leo's head, but it faded away as fast as it came.

Leo was surprised, because it felt like the technique he learned would be unforgettable. Leo was not far from being correct, because the scrolls usually imprint information deep inside the user's mind. Forgetting the technique is the same as forgetting your name, which is almost impossible.

The Mana circulation technique Leo received would help him awaken Mana and regenerate it. The technique was focused on breathing. One would inhale Mana from the surrounding area and circulate it across the body using arteries.

This technique is graded A grade, because it can be used in combat. The technique is also very simple to use and one can do it automatically within a month or two of practicing. The technique is not graded higher, because it has one fatal weakness which is the amount of Mana one can inhale.

Imagine fighting against an equal opponent who had higher Mana regeneration. It's highly probable that the opponent would just stall time until your Mana reserves are dry and defeat you.

After collecting his thoughts Leo went to the training room and took a seat on the ground. He started slowly inhaling and exhaling air. For a few minutes not a single spec of Mana was drawn towards Leo, but slowly one by one Mana particles started entering Leo's body through his mouth. After storing enough Mana particles in his lungs he started circulating it across the body using arteries.

Creak....

A sound of an old, rusty door being opened resounded across the room and Leo was enveloped by white energy. His appearance changed a bit - his eyes' irises started shining purple and his hair turned a shade whiter.

Pop....

Like a balloon being popped the energy surrounding Leo suddenly lost form and gravitated towards his body. The next few hours felt like hell to Leo, because his body was being reformed by Mana. Every single tissue and muscle was destroyed and slowly being regenerated. At the end Leo's body was soaked in his sweat and impurities. One has to know that the body's compatibility with mana increases every time one ranks up. Humans who were originally born without Mana presence inside their bodies have it rougher than other races, because they are not adapted to it, hence the reformation allows humans to evolve which is quite painful.

After the pain resided Leo felt his watch vibrating on his wrist. Slowly lifting his hand up he looked at the watch.

" I ranked up.. " Leo mumbled before slowly lifting his aching body up and heading towards the shower. The impurities and sweat on his body were a bit too much for Leo's improved sense of smell, so even through pain he washed himself and instantly fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.

Leo was too tired to look at the mirror, but if he would've, he'd be shocked, because his appearance changed quite a bit. Leo's facial features became sharper, his hair color turned a shade whiter and his eyes' irises were purple.

****

The next day Leo was woken up by birds' chirping. His senses were abnormally high and his body felt like a feather. Leo instantly dashed towards the training room wanting to try out his new body, but didn't manage to control his speed and hit the wall around the corner.

Grumbling Leo carefully stood up and slowly walked into the training room. Leo started working out and doing random exercises to get accustomed to the changes his body went through.

Leo was amazed, because after doing his usual workout routine he didn't even break a sweat. It felt like his body had unlimited stamina. After a few more exercises he took the black blade daggers and started swinging them in random directions.

Whoosh.. Whoosh...

Air could be heard being split apart, because of the speed daggers were moving. Reaching Awakener Rank boosts a human's overall physical strength and allows one to circulate their affinity's mana through certain body parts to enhance their performance. Only after being able to enhance all the body parts one will be able to rank up to Enchanter Rank. Different affinity Mana gives different results if used to enhance the body, for example Lightning affinity gives the user speed and destruction.

After a few minutes of random swinging Leo turned towards one of the dummies and dashed towards it. He slashed one of his daggers at the dummy's neck and the other at its chest. Leo's momentum was so fast that the dummy's head was separated from its body and the dummy was thrown to the other side of the room.

Leo walked up to the dummy to inspect it. Dummy's head was cleanly cut off. The dummy's chest was halfway cut in half. Happy with the results Leo put the daggers inside his inventory and left the room.

Leo went to the living room and sat on the sofa. He opened his watch and started searching for information about Teleports.

Bzzt... Bzzt...

After reading about the Teleports Leo left his apartment and went to the local market he saw when he was moving in. He bought a backpack, food supplies, first aid kit and other useful stuff.

When Leo was on his way back home he noticed many stares directed at him or more accurately at his watch. While walking back from the Talent and affinity measurement his sight was locked to the ground, hence didn't notice them. He was momentarily surprised, but recalled that lightning affinity is very rare and its users are usually very powerful.

Leo quickly hid his watch in his jacket's sleeve. He didn't need any attention, he only wanted to train in peace and to find his brother. Having rarer affinity is good and all, but guilds are always on a lookout for talents to recruit them. Leo, who wanted nothing more than to search for his brother on the other continent, didn't want to be chained down to one organization and comply with their demands.

While thinking about his brother he entered the apartment and started packing his things up for the upcoming trip.
