Chapter 3 - Chronicles of a Course Rep.

"Violet Woodsen. You will not miss this–"

"Of course I won't. I just wasn't hearing you on the phone earlier. How are you pretty woman?" Violey smiled big, putting her arms around Lucy's neck

Lucy's frown disappeared slowly, leaving a slight pout behind. "You're so annoying." she smiled, as she was someone who was weak to compliments.

"Hehe," Violet walked forward, keeping her arm in place since she wasn't uncomfortable as lucy was two centimetres shorter than her One hundred and seventy one centimetres.

"Oh, would you look at this, it's the boyfriend thief and the sidekick." A loud voice came from behind them as they walked into the classroom.

"Oh dear Lord." Violet murmured, walking faster and dragging Lucy– who was getting ready to turn and confront her boyfriend's ex– along. "Must you always let her get to you?" She sighed, entering the lecture room.

Lucy glared, "You wouldn't understand, you're single."

"Yeah, yeah." Violet sighed, retrieving her arm and taking a seat.

The class which seemed to go on forever finally ended and Lucy glanced briefly at her phone before getting to her feet and leaving the classroom, dragging Violet by the hand. They walked straight into the back seat of the taxi Lucy had ordered a few minutes before the end of class and once they were inside, Lucy scowled at Violet.

"What?" Violet heaved a long sigh, knowing she wanted to complain about something.

"You have bags underneath your eyes." She folded her arms.

"Chronicles of a course representative."

Lucy rubbed the underside of Violet's eyes with her thumb. "Hmm. Well, you still look pretty, so that'll do."

Ten minutes into the ride, Violet frowned. "You're not taking me somewhere to harvest my organs are you?"

Lucy laughed. "I doubt your organs are in good shape, won't sell for much considering how little sleep you get and the wacky food you eat."

"Fair enough."

By 3:32pm, they arrived at 'The Inri Place' and Violet briefly wandered how she'd get home since her house was in the far opposite direction.

"Okay, his name is Cole and get a taxi when you're done, buses hardly run here, but you may be lucky enough to find one. Bye."

"Hey are–" before she could complete the sentence, Lucy waved her bye and shut the door as the driver drove away. "–you leaving already..." she trailed off, completing the sentence.

She took a deep breath, putting on a smile and walking into the restaurant. 'I hope this goes well."

As she entered through the doors of the restaurant, movement from the side caught her eyes and she turned to see a guy waving her over.

"Oh' she thought, smiling as she took in his handsome face. 'Just my type.' She was aware of how shallow she sounded to herself but she shrugged it off. The handsome face was enough to distract her from her thoughts. Walking over to him, she sat down with the smile still on her face. "Hello, I'm violet."

"Pretty name." He flashed a smile and Violet felt her heart skip a beat. "I'm Cole."

'Just like the books said.' She thought, trying hard not to swoon, maintaining the balance of her smile so it was neither creepy or as though she had fallen for him. 'Wait, is this what is called love at first sight?'

"What will you be having?" He kept his smile in place, gesturing for her to take the menu.

"Oh yeah." Violet looked away from his face, trying to get his smile out of her head as scanned through the menu. Then she looked up "I'm asking because I really can't be sure but are we splitting the bill?"

"No, it's fine, I'll pay." he nodded.

"Okay." Violet nodded, resuming scanning through the menu to find something inexpensive and that thing was salad.

She used the lightpen to tick salad and orange juice and waited. He also ordered and they delved into conversation, waiting on their food to arrive.

"Tell me about yourself."

"Oh, I'm the last of three children, I have a sister and a brother. My sister is getting married soon and my brother is not." She chuckled thinking about her annoying older brother.

"Looks like you have a lovely family." he said.

Violet cocked her head to the side, wondering if she really heard the tinge of resentment in his voice. before she could conclude, their food arrived. The waiter holding a tray in one hand, used the other to place her salad and orange juice in front of her and his spaghetti with chicken and coke in front of him.

"Thank you." she smiled softly at the waiter who smiled back. Turning back to Cole, she was taken aback by the slight twinge of jealousy in his eyes before it disappeared. Again, she wondered if she was seeing things but he dispelled her thoughts with a smile.

"What does your dad do?"

"Civil Engineering," she picked up the fork. "Yours?"

"Oh my dad is just a regular guy, works at a company, not as rich as yours."

Violet's eyebrows furrowed as she forked around the salad, realising that she hadn't misread or imagined anything.

"I have two sisters." he continued, oblivious to the fact that he was starting to lose her. "I hope things work out between us, my last relationship didn't work out well, she cheated on me and I have to find out through her friend's Mistagram post. She said she was going to visit her family only for me to see the video of her twerking on a guy in the club."

"Hmm, rough." Violet said, taking a bite out of the salad. She felt someone sit in the chair behind her but she couldn't be bothered to look back, she only thought that the cologne was nice.

"Want to see the video?"

'No, I couldn't care less.' Violet wanted to say but not wanting to sound rude, she started to nod. Before she could move her head upwards, he slid his phone towards her.

Violet watched a video of a random flipping girl she didn't know twerking on a guy in the club with zero interest. "Oh wow, that sucks." she said almost mechanically.

Seeming to sense her lack of interest, he took the phone back and smiled. "What is your Mistagram handle?"

Violet sighed, taking another bite of the salad. "I'm not really a social media person, I'm not on Mistagram." And she wasn't, she used to be but went off it when she realised that she was becoming dumber the more time she spent on it.

His smile grew. "I really like you, you are not interested in all this followership things girls nowadays are obsessed with."

"Hmm." she shoved more salad in her mouth to prevent from talking.

"What is your zodiac sign?"

Violet paused mid air, looking him dead in the eye. "Sorry what?"

"Your zodiac sign. I don't believe in it but–"

'So why the heck are you asking?' she inwardly rolled her eyes.

"–just to see our odds." he smiled before diving into his food.

"Ah..."

And so the conversation went, the part that annoyed Violet most was when he said, "We'll go to the gym together."

"I don't–"

"I need my girl to have more meat in her body, you're quite thin y'know."

"Ah, no. I don't know."

"Haha" He laughed it off as a joke.

Violet stared as him as he ate, wondering why she let his handsome face fool her in the first place. She was a little thankful for the previous blind dates who were not as good-looking and didn't say much. What did he mean she's needed to go to the gym with him. She liked herself how she was, maybe she would like a little bit more fat in certain places but at least she wasn't a pencil. Her face grew hot the more she thought about what he had just said to her, especially when she heard the person behind her snicker. She bit her lower lip. 'What an idiot.' she thought, referring to her blind date but then, she wasn't too surprised, recalling the video of his ex who was quite, more than just quite, more of very well endowed. A second later, she reminded herself not to look down at her chest.

5:07pm

The dinner went by pretty fast, with Violet wondering why she even thought it would be a good date.

"Wow, it's already quite late. I need to get back, I have to see some friends before six." He cleaned his mouth, placing a few bills on the table. "It was really nice meeting you, I'll text you, I got your number from Lucy."

"Okay, bye." Violet stated, holding back km her sigh of relief. All he'd done all through was talk about how he was from a humble home, how he was not as privileged as her, and how they were a good match. She'd really wanted to fake a call and leave but her battery was dead.

"How will you get home?" he inquired, standing up.

"I ordered a taxi–"

"Oh nice, rich girl." he smiled, winking at her. "Alright, let's go outside, I'll wait with you till the taxi arrives."

Violet wanted to ask what he meant by the rich girl comment but held herself back. "No, I think it will take a while so I'll just wait here."

"Okay, can I get a hug?" he asked but he was already opening his arms for a hug and people were starting to look in their direction.

Of course she wanted to say no but being put in a spot with eyes turning their way made her get up and give him an unwilling hug which of course he was oblivious to and hugged her tight. Someone adjacent to them let out an "Aww" to which she snorted, tapping his back so he would let go.

When he finally let her go, she sat back down, waving at him with a tight smile. "Be safe."

"Of course, I'll call you." He said before walking away.

"Please don't." she murmured when he turned, chugging down her orange juice.

Violet sat in her seat, her mind totally blank for a few seconds before she picked up her phone, switched it on, even though she knew it would only last seconds because the battery had died earlier in the day, and texted Lucy.

"Yeah I'm done with blind dates!"

Lucy: Oh, Cole is a nice guy, he's Adam's friend.

On seeing that he was Lucy's boyfriend's friend, she snorted texting; No wonder– but before she could send it, her battery died again.

Violet yelped, realising that she shokuld've ordered a taxi instead of texting Lucy. She let out a breath through her mouth. It was getting late and if she had any hope of reaching the busstop early enough, she should be on her way. She stood, grabbing her backpack and swinging it over her shoulder.

As soon as she was out of the restaurant, she started walking towards the bus stop, hoping that there'd be a bus going her direction. The cold breeze blew through her short hair, and she buttoned up her jean jacket as the cold started to get to her. The events of the past hour came to her head and she rolled her eyes, a smile stretching her lips. She did find it quite amusing that the blind date turned out like that. What else could be expected anyway?

The romance fiction books she had read didn't tell her how to deal with handsome guys with unattractive IQ. As she walked by the side of the road, a car honked, sounding close behind her. Ignoring it, she picked up pace, walking faster. Another honk came through and her heart started to beat faster as it became clear the the car was following closely behind her.

'Ah, I'm going to get kidnapped.' She suddenly became aware there wasn't anyone else on the road and thanks to the grey skies.

Something wet touched her forehead and she cleaned it off, looking up at the sky to see that a drizzle was imminent. She groaned, getting ready to run when a voice called out.

"Hey, unless you want to catch a cold and trek all the way back to The Grey Area, you should get in."

Violet's ears perked up at the familiar voice, turning almost in slow motion, her lips stretched into a smile as her tense shoulders fell. Without waiting for further encouragement, she entered the car.
