Leona POV
I knew that I was dreaming. Or rather, having a nightmare. But there was nothing I could do to stop it. And the knowledge that I was having a nightmare didn’t make anything any better. Because the truth was that even though it was a nightmare, it was something that had happened to me.
So it still felt as real as could possibly be.
In the nightmare, Zale is in wolf form, and he is chasing me. I am in human form, and there is only so far a human can run away from a wolf.
And in the nightmare, it's almost like I’m in two places. I am the person running away from him, feeling the hot breath of the monster on my heels, and I am an outsider, looking in on everything as it’s happening.
I’m just not sure which part is scarier.
Because as the person running from him, I can hear the wolf snarling, biting at my ankles. But as the outsider, I know that the wolf will get me. And then he will tear me to shreds.
I shot up in bed, clutching at the covers over me.
