Chapter 26 - Chapter 25: Jealousy On The Home Front

The Home Of Lycidas, The Kingdom Of Medina, 520 B.C...

The First Prince of Medina had been making his rounds, sulking about the kingdom and abusing his power however he saw fit. Basilius of Medina was by all accounts a public disgrace, he'd been scorned on more than one occasion by his father and quite possibly his mother who seemed to favor his younger half-brother all the more as the days progressed. He had not been too upset about her apparent emotional betrayal as she'd been the one coming up with a way to get rid of not only the fool that was King Myron but Lycidas once and for all. Basilius seemed to be in quite the mood as he had chosen to finally leave his favorite seedy brothel and venture among those who had been family. Nicodemus had been no stranger to spending a good deal of time at Lycidas' house but Basilius had only wanted one thing and that was Lady Mira for himself.

She had outright refused his many advances and despite the long and grueling separation from her husband while he'd been on campaign, she never bothered to even look in another man's direction. Of course, all of them were inferior by her tastes compared to her husband and thus she kept to herself ignoring their tendency to leer and speak vulgar obscenities in her direction when given to drink and desire especially when it was Basilius, her brother-in-law and the future king who had been doing the leering.

Basilius had not dared venture to his brother's house when he'd been home, as he'd been as terrified of getting into a scuffle with the well-accomplished warrior as anyone who had known him. Still, he pushed his luck slinking by whenever he believed Lycidas had been out to war all the while Lady Mira sat home alone surrounded by servant girls and her precious garden.

The first prince hated Lady Mira but she'd been an exotic beauty and far more interesting than the common whores who were throwing themselves at him due to his status and money. More importantly, she belonged to Lycidas, and that in itself was enough to make Basilius want her if only to steal the pleasures of the horrid woman from the brother he outright despised.

Lady Mira had anticipated Bailius being prompted to venture toward her and her husband's estate with him gone but he wasn't so foolish as to bother her while she'd been pregnant, as the child was heir to the king via his second-born son and putting any royal child at risk resulted in flogging from the King himself.

The slimy weasel came slinking up the walkway his hands behind his back with his finest garments draped over his thin sickly little body. Lady Mira despised Basilius wholeheartedly and wished her husband and his father would do away with the unruly would-be tyrant before he had a chance to grab power and get his way. Sadly, Basilius was allowed to live when all good decency demanded he die due to sentiment.

Wasted sentiment....but sentiment nonetheless.

Lady Mira grew annoyed with the unannounced visits just so the spineless whelp could hit on her and bribe her to screw him just because her husband was out of the city. The so-called future king was inferior in every fashion and word had been going around due to his frequent visits to the brothels that even his cock size was about as insignificant as the rest of him had been. Had it not been for his accidental birth and being the first of the line, he might have been written off by the entire kingdom a long time ago.

Basilius had not expected to see Tyrus when he arrived and it appeared to have spooked him a bit as he tried to recover from the shock and avert his despicable attentions toward the gathered servant girls. His eyes fell upon Lena initially but Lady Mira moved to protect Tamera from his gaze and it prompted him to pay attention to her instead. This was all by design of course, as Lady Mira despised the servant girl Tamera, but she knew what would become of a girl like her with her brand of delusions elsewhere they'd probably get her killed. Being as predictable as ever the fiendish prince took this to mean that Tamera was his brother's favorite servant girl and that it was quite possible for her to have been in his bed and as a result set his sights on the unsuspecting Tamera for future reference as he took his leave of his younger brother's house.

Lena watched the horrid little man leave relieved that Tamera had now been his intended target but also terrified for her. She had not wished the vile attentions of the first prince of Medina on any woman let alone the girl she despised.

Tamera had been none the wiser as Lady Mira began the process of getting the clueless girl ready for Lycidas' return. She had known all too well that the servant girl longed to be on the end of her husband's enormous appendage and she was finally going to get her chance of course she had no idea that this was merely a ploy to keep Lena safe while she carried Lycidas' child as she'd known all too well what Basilius would do to the poor girl if he ever found out about her pregnancy and the attention his brother lavished on the silent lass.

Lady Mira had known all too well that fate was a cruel mistress and girls like Lena were always destroyed by the blow from her hand but Tamera who had paraded the halls as if she owned the place, 'd been in better standing and as the twisted opportunist that she was, she would surely use the first prince to her advantage despite the sacrifice she'd have to make in laying with him when the time came for him to try and seduce her.

Lena went back to her duties still thinking of Lycidas and wishing him well as he continued with his campaign as their child continued to grow in her belly. Lady Mira had been keeping her condition a secret well enough and she'd been doing her best to manage the household in the wake of her husband's absence, but the day was drawing closer for the moment of her unborn child's birth, and as a result they all would become vulnerable to the many watchful eyes and jealous sneers about them.

"Lycidias," she said softly as she held her hand to her belly as she stood alone in the store room.

He had promised to come back to her and Lady Mira and she knew that he would.
